He thought it, perhaps, poetic justice, that even death denied him the final repose he sought. What would happen if Severus Snape managed to lay hands on the Resurrection Stone? An EWE, AU story.

I'm one who came late to the world of HP, not reading any of the books until after Goblet of Fire came out. I stand in awe of all the talented fanfic writers who have created such vivid worlds from the genius that began with Jo the Great, and humbly hope I may one day dare to join your ranks. Until then, I shall lurk, read, and offer my praises in reviews to encourage more of the fanfic to which I have become addicted. Long live the writers!

I really love this story, so beautifully done. When I read it, I thought, yes! Finally somebody who gets Lily. But then in your notes you called her a fair weather friend...
I love the HG/SS pairing but I don't get how so many don't see how Severus himself ruïned his relation with Lily. As you view the memeries and remember Sirius' comments about his friends it is very clear that he was firmly on the path to a Death Eater membership when Lily ended the friendship. We see her making him trying to see that his companions and their deads were evil (Mulciber) and his refusal to see that. He calls everybody muggle born mud blood. Except her. That makes quite clear whose acceptance he wants.
He does not deny that he wants to become a Death Eater and frankly I'm surprised that people find it so strange that their friendshap does not survive this.
He wants to become one of the persons who consider her kind no true witch or wizard at all, who think they should not be there, are fair game to be killed.
He had the opportunity to have a true moral compass in her, but he choose fo Lord Voldemort.
You spelled Gryffindor Griffindor.

yikes--sure did! Thanks.
This is a heartrendingly beautiful tale! Though Snape`s backstory was tragic, as was his death, nobody deserved love and happiness as much as he did. Fortunately and happily, we could all read about him finding love and joy with Hermione in such wonderful fanfic as yours. Thanks so much.

Thank YOU so much! I do feel Severus was the most heroic, as well as the most truly honorable, character in the HP books--since both his heroism and his honor were "tried by fire" to a greater degree and for far longer than any other character's, including Harry's. It gave me a lot of joy picturing a way he could have some of the happiness and peace he so deserved.
This was an amazing one-shot. I cried to the point I couldn't read my screen when Severus had his long awaited conversation with Lily. I remember JKR commenting that she cried her eyes out while writing the scene of Harry in the forest with the Ressurection Stone. I must admit that I didn't shed a tear, I guess because I felt nothing but disdain for James and Sirius, apathy for Remus and by then, felt the same way you feel about Lily (fair-weather friend, etc.). But your conversation with her and Severus was very different. And I felt that the way you wrote it was both perfect and in-character for them. I feel that once someone crosses through the veil, the selfish self-serving tendencies they held in life melt away as they witness the big picture. She said just what she needed to say to get Severus to move on and be happy.Well done. Thanks for sharing.

Wow--I'm sorry it made you cry, but I'm so glad you found it in-character and realistic. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thank you for your kind review!
Wow, beautiful story. I was expecting Lily to be a bit different, but I loved what she said. Much of it was so very true. She helped him to put her in her rightful place. Now he can finally move on. Glad he decided to do what she said.

Oh, thank you Deb! I LOVE your stories! I'm thrilled that you liked mine!
This was a fantastic first fic. Well done. I really liked this story and how you portrayed Lily. We may all hate how she treated Severus, but he stilled loved her.Sevibaby

Thank you so much! I'm so glad you liked it!
Your story is a beautifully written look at the emotional journey Severus had to make to become reconciled to the choices he had made and to be free to live a new life. Lily's gentle reasoning and her forgiveness were essential I think. Being able to see events through her eyes gave him the opportunity to see them differently. I'm glad that she was able to help him embrace life again, and to see that "the perfect woman for you, may be right there, and you’re just not letting yourself see her…"Miss Granger and the Potions Master will now be able to share a future filled with hope.Well done!Beth

What a lovely review! Thank you very much!
Mia sent me here through her Live Journal post, otherwise I probably would have missed this delightful story. I love how you've used the Ressurection Stone to force Snape to face his insecurities regarding his betrayal of Lily, and how she managed to soothe him with her advice to live his life. Beautifully done!

Thank you so much! I was afraid folks might think it a simplistic solution to Snape being freed of his obsession with Lily--having Lily herself tell him to let go. Yet, I thought "if" he found the Stone, there was only one person he'd want to see, and perhaps, if Lily could speak with him, she could grant him the forgiveness he could never vouchsafe himself.Thank you for your kind review!
This is quite lovely! I like your treatment of Lily; it comes across as quite genuine and 'what canon should be'. Thanks for writing.

That's a great first story! I hope you have more ideas to write about. :)

Thank you! I'm playing with one right now, but it's completely different from this one. I don't like to post stories I haven't finished, so I'm not sure when that one will see the light of day. But I'm so glad you enjoyed this one.
Beautiful!!! It was absolutely lovely the way Lily helped him find life again and see what was right in front of him the entire time. I've been told this your first story - very, very well done! :)

Thank you so very much! Yes, this is my first posted story (I've been playing with another little bunny for a while, but it's proving recalcitrant, and I can't seem to find a beta to help me), so I'm thrilled that you like it! Thanks again.
A lovely story to read, it was nicely written. :D

Thanks so much, Imhilien!
Brava!!!I'm so thrilled that you finally figured out how to get this posted. It's such a lovely, beautifully written story, and accomplishes what we all want to see, again and again and again--Severus lives to love Hermione.

Oh Mia, thank you! This is high praise indeed, from the author of CoMC! And thanks also, for trying to help Miss-Hopelsss-on-a-computer figure out the mysteries of HTML. I am so glad you liked my story!
Wonderful, heart-warming tale. I like that you didn't demonise Lily, and also showed a Severus who wanted to cling on to Lily's memory, but was forced to re-evaluate his feelings, which then enabled him to move on. Well done!
Response from countrymouse (Author of Resurgam)
Thanks for your review! I was trying hard to stay true to what I thought would be Severus' feelings. HIs heart was too faithful to ever really "let go" of Lily, yet I wanted to give him some way of doing so that wouldn't seem to him like a betrayal of her. Thank you so much!
wonderful story, absolutely wonderful!!!!

Thank you so much!
This was very well thought out. I love how you brought Lily in to lecture Severus herself, explaining how we are never far from our loved ones, even in death, and how he needed to let her go so that he could truly live. And, of course, shutting up a rambling Hermione with a kiss is always a good choice. LOL. Touching and emotional. Well worth the read.

Thank you so much! This is the first story I've had the courage to post, so I was unsure of whether I might be going overboard in some places. I'm glad to hear the scenes hit the right note, in the way I'd intended. Thanks again!
Well done very subtle in the storytelling, but not drawn out.

Indeed, a very well written story, so very close to canon, yet surpassing canon by far. Thanks for this lovely story.
