I'd say an apology is definitely a good place to start. But Hermione sounds awfully embittered by his treatment of her during her apprenticeship. Hopefully, what he has to say will make Hermione think twice about about recklessly rushing off to a man she knows is ill-suited to her, which would end up hurting her most of all in the end, as she would be the one stuck with him for life, not Snape.

Nice piece! You write very beautifully! I like how Severus describes Hermione’s imperfections. And the first line: “Compared to his first obsession – another Muggle-born Gryffindor – she would never be considered a classic beauty”.I believe that Hermione has so much more than “the looks”. She’s loyal, loving, caring and smart. She’s also strong and moral –Severus knows all this, of course, that’s why he loves her-. And even if she’s not as pretty as Lily was, she deserves Severus heart a thousand times more than Lily ever did. Lily walked away from him, I’m not defending him but it seems a very poor excuse to stop talking to your best friend because he insulted you. He tried to talk to her, but she wouldn’t listen. Hermione would have listened. As a read sometime on another fanfiction, if Severus would had have somebody like Hermione as a friend on his days as a Hogwarts student, he’d have done so many things differently.

If anyone understands about the importance of the product and not the packaging, it would be Severus.  He's not considered handsome himself, so he would surely treasure what's inside Hermione.  He learned the first time that beauty isn't everything.  Yes, Lily was pretty, but she wasn't a true, supportive friend.  Hermione is forgiving in canon and fanon.  She and Severus have so much in common, they are soul mates. *sigh*

I though I was crazy, but then I see so many people thinking the same... They’re meant to each other. I like to believe that in cannon, they didn’t ended up together because J. K. Rowling didn’t want to create more polemics –it was enough with Dumbledore sexuality-.
