Just friends, right?
Chapter 6 of 11
ConstantCommentJane Granger was not one to beat around the bush, but this conversation seemed to be a challenge.
Jane Granger was never one to beat around the bush in unpleasant conversation—in fact she embraced the awkward with terrifying determination and got it over with in record time.
But, this exchange was determined to be uncomfortable for both she and Hermione, who sat at the kitchen table while Severus and dad grilled out back.
The Grangers had embraced Severus without much question other than loyalty, which Jane had taken head on, scaring the professor out of his pants.
Which was why Hermione was feeling queasy, because her mum wouldn’t just say it.
Jane set the spinach salad on the counter, turning to Hermione for a third try.
Oh, yes, she would surely vomit.
“Is Severus your, ah… Are you two—?”
There was an embarrassing pause as Jane searched for a word.
“Are you involved,” she finished just as Hermione exclaimed, “No!”
“Because, if you are, darling—that’s okay. A little unorthodox, but—”
“Mum, we’re just friends!”
“Sure, love. Just… needed to ask.”
“I saved his life and helped him recover and now we’re friends.”
“Of course.” Jane turned back to the counter and took a generous gulp of wine.
After a mortified moment, Hermione added, “He was my teacher!”
“It happens all the time at universities. But, I trust you’ll keep your head on your shoulders?”
“Mother. We are friends. And where else would I put my head? Don’t answer that.”
“You know I have no idea what you magicians can do. Decapitation doesn’t seem that ridiculous.”
“Mum, you’re giving me a headache.”
“I just wanted to tell you outright, if you were worried, dear.”
“I’m not worried because there’s nothing to be worried about because we are just friends!”
But the seed was planted, and Hermione wouldn’t sleep a wink that night.
Just friends, right?

Thank god I found this story today. I was over on OWL and there was a story called Whispers that was heart-wrenchingly sad that I had to find a happy and sweet story. This was it. Thank you (BTW, Whispers is awesome, just terribly sad)
Response from ConstantComment (Author of The Precious Few)

Why were they apart a month?
Response from ConstantComment (Author of The Precious Few)
Yeesh. They thought they had to be, I suppose. After all, he wasn't supposed to live and she wasn't supposed to look after him, so... LOL. Silly, isn't it?
Good, he got the message! :)
Response from ConstantComment (Author of The Precious Few)
Kissing always seems to do the trick. ;]
This was a warm and sweet ending despite her expectations and his reactions. Well done! Bravo!
Response from ConstantComment (Author of The Precious Few)
Why, thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed the story. ^___^ -CC
Yippee! A bun in the oven and a proposal in his pocket - what bliss! Great ending to a fantastic story. :Dp.s. (Could I respectfully request a little more 'Honeysuckle and Snow'? I've been craving it.)
Response from ConstantComment (Author of The Precious Few)
Hah! I;m so glad you approve. ^___^ And I HAVE been feeling a strange urge to complete that story. Was that YOU? lol (I really am pondering the next chapter.) -CC
Ah, lovely! Speaking of sweet dreams, I'm just about to head off to bed after a rather hard evening, and I"m sure this sweetness will go a long way toward giving me _very_ pleasant dreams, indeed! Thank you for a lovely tale!

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for the lovely review. Sweet dreams (haha)! -CC
Oh! This has been a joy to read. I loved Severus' reaction to Hermione's tears, but he handled it just right in the end. I also loved the black box he had in his pocket! This has been so much fun to follow. Thanks!Beth
Response from ConstantComment (Author of The Precious Few)
Thanks!!! :D As always, I'm happy for the review and that you liked the story. And I had to leave a promise of a future for them, thus the lovely black box! -CC
Loved it! Especially the "Crying woman! Crying woman!" bit, that is so men! Thanks for sharing the story with us, drabble that it was. Still great!
Response from ConstantComment (Author of The Precious Few)
Thank you, Stephanie! I thought any guy would probably react that way. Haha. I'm glad you enjoyed! -CC

Thank you! :D -CC
She figured out what we already knew. Brightest witch of her age? I think not.
Response from ConstantComment (Author of The Precious Few)
LOL. Yeah, Hermione can be a bit dense at times, if only because of that characteristic Gryffindor stubbornness. :) Thanks for the review! -CC
There a so many things I love about this chapter!
• I adore Severus with sleepy eyes and toddler's hair. He's totally squishable!
• “There was a... a drug lord… who was a platypus.” He is so busted! Our Hermione knows there was no "drug lord platypus," but she allowed him his secret.
• And she knows she has lied to her mama. She and Severus ARE friends... they just aren't ONLY friends... they have fallen madly in love with each other. I love it, CC!Beth
Response from ConstantComment (Author of The Precious Few)
Hahahaha. Well, what I meant was that he mixed two news stories together--one about drug cartels and the other about Australian animalia, but you know... He's still crazy. lol. I'm so glad you're liking the story. I hope you enjoy the next chapter, as well. -CC
Ohhhhhh. Love this line.“It’s always better when you’re here,” he mumbled as he readjusted and curled up to doze. “You chase the bad away.”
Response from ConstantComment (Author of The Precious Few)
*warm fuzzies!!!* Me too. He's such a toddler, really. I love a cuddly!Severus. Heh. Thanks for the stars! -CC
What terrible dreams Severus has! The horror he lived during Voldemort's time was enough to live through as it happened, but to have to revisit it constantly in his dreams is just as bad.Thank goodness Hermione heard him and was there to save him from his nightmare. How pleasant it must have been to see her sleeping there next to him! Pleasant enough to bring him dreams of tap-dancing llamas. Much better!!!Beth
Response from ConstantComment (Author of The Precious Few)
Man, those tap-dancing llamas are scary enough. ;P Thanks for the lovely review, as always. -CC
I'm glad he's not shoked to find her lying beside him, in bed. Sharing intimacy is not something he would do easily so there must be a serious clus regarding his feelings towards her.
Response from ConstantComment (Author of The Precious Few)
Definitely. As Sev said, Hermione chases the bad away. She makes him feel safe. ^__^ You'll see how he feels about her, soon. Thanks for the review, Snitchette! -CC
