I am so sorry for your loss... I don't know how one gets over something like this, I just know that somehow we do.  Somehow... one day at a time, sometimes one hour or one minuet at a time.

I'm sure the experience was much worse, but you have eloquently worded it with this piece that I can almost see the scene--the shocked silence after that gunshot, the denial you all must have felt right after, and the grief at knowing he won't come back. 

Sorry for your loss, but let the sorrow inspire you to write more amazing pieces like this.  Life goes on, after all.

I don't think it's anything you ever get over.  I have to say it certainly makes you look at everything differently though, doesn't it?

I like the title as well as the poem, a bit of poetry in itself ... as if the time you got the news was imprinted on your mind forever.
