ReviewedHe slid easily down the hallways, keeping to darkened corners and watching carefully for any sign of observers. His destination could not be made public; the consequences would be devastating.
Ah. The door had been left ever-so-slightly ajar. Good.
He slipped inside to find the lamps lit and the couch occupied. The smile he received made him preen smugly. With his own peculiar grace, he settled upon the couch.
He purred loudly as the large, bony hand stroked down his back. Crookshanks would never let his mistress learn that he enjoyed the Shadow Man's touch nearly as much as hers.

I love the phrase Kneazle-beast. Makes me grin every time I see it. Also a very clever play here; I read the second chapter twice just to be sure I'd got it right.
