“He saved Draco’s soul.” It was barely a whisper, and Narcissa had to bend her head closer to hear him.

this is what should have happened!!! that was great!
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
Thank you very much!
There. I'm such a sucker for all things Narcissa/Severus that I don't even mind the use of the Resurrection Stone. Very elegantly done, by the way. Again, I like the way you've written Narcissa - strong, sensitive, caring. And Lucius really caring for Severus.. I tend to think there is much more to the Malfoys than the Pureblood attitude that meets the eye and you have a way of showing that nicely. As for Severus finding his happiness with Hermione - not my first choice for him but so be it! At least he did find it. I enjoyed the story very much.

*squees* Another Narcissa fan!!!Thank you for your very kind and thoughtful words!Personally, I think that Book 7 has given us enough to truly believe there is more to the Malfoys than pureblood attitude. Narcissa lying to the Dark Lord about Harry's state, the Malfoys sitting huddled together in the Great Hall; all that happens in the last book shows them more than before as three-dimensional characters rather than blind followers.I'm sorry you don't like the idea of Severus with Hermione; it is my OTP; but that doesn't stop me from writing Narcissa and Lucius. :D
I love the peaceful mood and the measured and loving pace everyone shows here. No harsh words, no berating or menacing. It fits so well to not only the dire situation, but also to the four intelligent and educated heroes of your story. Needless to describe how glad I am whenever I witness Severus' resurrection. His death was ever such a disappointment, not only as an unfitting fate, but especially because of the ignorance in which it was conducted. The challenge is a great one, too. Already with this little review I notice, how truly difficult it is to follow.
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
I think at the end of such a battle, everyone craves for peace, no matter which side they were on. There have to have been many an epiphany about being right or wrong in one's beliefs, too. And the best way is always to go forward. I wholeheartedly agree with you on Severus, of course. I'm incredibly relieved about the sloppiness JKR treated his "death." And this is probably the only time in life that I approve of sloppiness, LOL. There was no portrait, his death was described in such a vague way that Stopper Death, as mentioned in his first-years' speech, might have been used, so fanfic author have free reign to resurrect him, explain his fake death, or use the Resurrection stone. The possibilities are nearly endless. One of my favourite authors told me a couple of years ago that an editor had said to her how overused the word 'that' is. Once I started paying attention, I found it to be absolutely true. I write away merrily, and when I edit, the first thing I do is search for the word and take it out wherever I can. :)Thank you for sharing your thoughts in the form of such a lovely review!
I don't think I have yet told you how very much I like this story. The idea that Narcissa and Lucius were dedicated to Severus as a friend and not just a competitor for Voldy's attention feels right - especially after we get a much closer look at their feelings for each other at the end of DH. If Narcissa can love her son so much she will defy Voldy to find out if he is safe, can not some of those feelings seep over to another child? Especially one so openly distraught?
I love how you have her being so very Slytherin in accomplishing her goals while still making her a mother and friend. Sometimes I feel like our take on Slytherin house leaves out the more tender emotions in favor of the harsh realities of self/family/house preservation.
Wonderfully well done. I have enjoyed more than once.

Wow. Thank you for your kind and thoughtful words!Yes, I agree with you. There is little enough known from canon about the Malfoys that it's quite easy for us to take some liberty with interpreting things.I also agree on your opinion about our take on Slytherin in general. I often come across Snape being portrayed as an emotional wreck and the like, such as he can't show a 'decent' side etc. He's been head of Slytherin for how long? Surely, he's calmed many homesick first years and not by laughing at them. :) He's surely sorted out many a disagreement between Slytherin students, and they all seem to respect him, so I doubt he is all that incapable of showing his decent side...Your kind words made my day. Thank you again!
Response from sara lady dalian (Reviewer)
I think you have stumbled upon just the key modifer - he can show his caring side to his Slytherins. He is expected to take care of them - even by their parents. It would be different outside of the House, I think. There he could not show his caring for the students.
Every time I encounter some work which casts doubt on Severus' ability to care for those in his charge, I always think back to Book 3. He put himself in front of a werewolf to protect our three heros, without hesitation. And not just any werewolf, one who had already tried to kill him once before.
He would be livid if he could see this - but he could have been classed as a Gryffindor more than once.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sara
I liked your ending for Severus--it gives those of us that adore his character hope.
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
Thank you very much! Yes, I'm very fond of at least hopeful endings. :)
Well done! Happily ever after without further conflict! And a revival that is extremely plausible as well as original. Love it!! *fangulrs you back*
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)

Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
*scoffs at the mighty pen*Okay, next challenge: Avoid "as"
Response from notsosaintly (Reviewer)
I could substitute 'because' or 'like'. Is that really challenging enough?
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
Actually, for you it probably wouldn't be so challenging. But that aside, 'as' can't always be substituted with because or like. I did one fic the other day and found 'as' in just about every sentence; that's when I thought, hm, another overused word, LOL.
Response from notsosaintly (Reviewer)
If I had the wherewithal, I'd go through some of my stories and search for 'as'. I don't think about it, really. I do notice, however, when people use it often. Drives me crazy too.
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
Sunny33 just IM'ed me with a brilliant idea: an adjective-less fic. She said adjectives are rampant, and I think she's right. LOL. Go for it? Your turn to find a prompt. ;)
Response from notsosaintly (Reviewer)
Where's my icon, where's my icon, where's my icon ... Oh, there it is!
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
/images/holyfuckingcow.gif" alt="" />Now THAT is an excellent idea, and quite highly challenging I might add.
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
Wonderful! Now we need a prompt, yes?
Response from notsosaintly (Reviewer)
...four days later... Yes, but I'm editing a manuscript with a deadline, and I fear if I do anything else right now I won't finish and be fired for any future jobs.... Ahhhh!
Ohh! Hermione working alongside Narcissa! Very lovely.
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
Thank you! *beams*
I've often wondered why Snape didn't choose the last battle to use Felix. With his talents, and situation it fit nicely. I"m glad I wasn't the only one who thought so!! Excellent.
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
I agree. I'm still not sure why Snape had to die from a bite in canon, sheesh. LOLThanks for your kind words!
Oh, very nice. Much better than "He swallowed a Bezoar. The End" :D
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
I don't know about better... I rather like your take, but then I'm fond of minimalistic writing. Yours kind of reminds me of Hemingway's six-word story. *grins*Thanks for the review!
Interesting take on the Resurrection Stone. And what? No that? :) LOL
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
Heh. Another challenge I couldn't resist. :)Thanks, love!
Awww, so cute. And an innovative use of the resurrection stone! Brilliant!
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
Thank you!
Yes, he really does deserve it!Cheers./M
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
*beams* I wholeheartedly agree!Thanks!
A creative revival. I liked the addition of the Felix Felices. It was nice to see Narcissa embrace Hermione, even before she knew why she was bawling her eyes out.
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
I've thought quite often how underrated a character Narcissa is. We only know her through Harry's eyes and the one chapter in HBP, which doesn't tell us all that much, except that she is a mother who loves her child. So, writing her that way kind of waited to happen, LOL. And naturally, in my never-ending optimism, I had to redeem her somewhat. Thanks for reviewing, Deb, and thanks for the stars!
Thank you.Very nicely done.Have a great weekend.

Short and sweet – a perfect afternoon dose. Thank you!
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
Thank you! *pats the stars*
This is the kind of ending I wish JKR had given Severus! Thank you.Beth
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
You have a point here! On the other hand, at least JKR left enough unsaid for us to play around and tweak the events, LOL.Thanks for reviewing! *pats the shinies*
That was really nice.
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
Thank you! So glad you like it!
and so the rehabilitation of the malfoys at your hands continues. ;) i was actually a little choked up during the early scene in the great hall. it was interesting to have narcissa and hermione cooperating.
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
Heh, it's what happens when Lucius takes up residence in one's head... *grins*Aw, choked up? That's good!I figured the end of the battle and Voldemort's demise was a good point to start a new life for both Narcissa and Lucius...Thanks for the lovely review, love!
Awww... I like nice Malfoy stories. Especially nice Narcissa stories, it seems like she is always left out even when Lucius plays nice.
Yes, Narcissa's a mother. I think I have almost forgotten that fact. It's really nice to see her team up with Hermione to take Severus back from the dead. It seems so easy to not use THAT word. I can't even manage that in a few phrases. ;)
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
Thank you,
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
!It's funny how writing goes. When I started off, I had the first scene more or less ready and waiting to be written. Then, Narcissa took over.*laughs at the 'that' note* It's not that easy, but I tend to avoid it in everything I write, so it wasn't too hard. I did end up having to rephrase a handful of sentences to get rid of the blasted word, though. :)
I do like your Narcissa! :)
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
*grins*Thanks, love! And thanks for the shinies, too! *admires*
I loved this story, I've been wanting to write a Malfoy's are not entirely evil story, myself. I liked Narcissa especially. Weill done.
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
Thank you, I'm so pleased you liked it, and maybe it'll be some food for a fic of your own? :)
Wow. I almost skipped this based on the summary, but when I saw it was yours, I knew it'd be good. I was right!!! This was delightful. I like your Narcissa, and the combination of potions with the Stone was really clever
Response from karelia (Author of Deliverance the Malfoy Way)
