Avatar blank done by LeDevineMarqiuse, adaptation done by Creamuts for me per request.
I am: an unrepentant Snape supporter, female, mid-thirties, a person that loves me the het and gen fic, a big fan of Darkfic and Death Eater fic, a person that doesn't t like werewolves, a person that doesn't care for about 99% of the slash, which (despite vehement protestations to the contrary), does not make me homophobic. I just don't like AU and OOC, and that's what most slash is. At least, most of what I've seen.
Really if you want to know more about me, my LJ is a better place for this.

that was the darkest fic i've read in a long time...in fact i can't remember having read a darker one. well written. thanks so much
Response from cmwinters (Author of Nox Maris)
Heh. Well. If you've got a Darkfic bug, I can sure show you some! I loves me the Darkfic!Thank you for your review!
I don't understand the reasoning behind Snape's actions. If he wanted to teach her a lesson, he shouldn't have obliviated her, but then she would have remembered being raped by him. A darcfic was the request, and a darcfic you have written. Brilliantly so.

Thank you very much for your review! You know, it's funny; I had this story posted and beta'd by several people, and NOBODY mentioned the Obliviate thing until today, and now I'm like ". . . oh yeah . . .!"But like I replied to someone else, I think the whole Obliviate thing is a special kind of dark to some people. It's a violation in a way that goes beyond most physical abuse, and it's really horrifying to some people. It's also a spell that, in the hands of an adept caster (hello, we're talking about Snape here!) that can be cast with pinpoint accuracy, so only small snippets can be removed, and that just lends a whole different level of horror to it.Thank you again!
That was truly horrible, but in a very well-done way. I am frightened by your scenario while being greatly impressed by your wicked cleverness.
Response from cmwinters (Author of Nox Maris)
Oh goodness, thank you so much! Those Death Eaters, you kinda have to be careful about them sometimes! Sometimes they go left on you!(Man, you oughta see what Bella gets up to in my head . . .oi!)
Yes, Snape's reasoning was rather hollow; despite his explanation of "teaching her a lesson," I think he simply plays out his own dark preferences, which have nothing to do with teaching anyone. Can't say I enjoyed it, but the writing is very good. I understand this was for a challenge, but I'm so tired of encountering stories of female victims as a source for horrific appeasement that this story makes me more angry than frightened. As a whole composition, however, it's woven quite well: Snape's character is set-up as very meticulous and without conscience, subtlety. Thus, I applaud the writer’s ability, despite my lack of preference for the subject matter :)

Thank you for the review; you've definitely a point there. I don't currently have confidence in my abilities (or lack thereof) to write a male that would be raped by a female without him being sodomised; I know it can happen, but I can't quite wrap my brain around it yet. Although I will certainly keep the thought in the back of my mind for future challenges.I also think that there's at least a little bit of "rape fantasy" for some women. Not that anyone would truly enjoy being brutalised the way an actual sexual assault is, but that there's a draw to rough sex with someone you're attracted to who won't actually HURT you that many women find enticing. Not just the submission but also the overwhelmingly animalistic responses from the other party(s). It probably explains why there is so much of it in fanfiction.I'm quite flattered you enjoyed the writing; it was my first attempt at horror and I fretted over it horribly.Do you think I ought to mark the fic more blatantly? I have another in queue that's quite dark as well, and it's very strongly marked. I hate to ambush anyone on anything they wouldn't otherwise prefer to read; I don't know about YOU, but *I* read fanfic to relax, and I can't very well do that if what I'm reading contains all my "squicks". ;)Thank you truly for the heartfelt review!
Well he certainly got his revenge, didn't he? It for sure would have scared the pants off of me! So I guess it sure scared the pants off of Hermione. And now she won't remember any of it... only Severus will. You were able to include each one of lulabelle's prompt requests in this little journey: werewolves, Severus/Hermione, mindfuck, darkfic, bloodplay, consensual or dub con, and a special request for psychological horror and plot.Well done!Beth
Response from cmwinters (Author of Nox Maris)
Hahaha, actually, no, didn't include *ALL* of her requests, just the ones I fulfilled. There were a bunch of others (dirty talk, corsets, etc) that I didn't include. Now, I loves me some DarkFic, but I don't prefer to see Snape as the instigator of rape. So I kinda wanted people to know why I was doing all this.It was my first horror fic, although I have at least two more in the back of my mind. One is a completely formed one-shot, and the other . . . oi. I think, as long as I keep taking my B Vitamins, I won't have to think over much about that one! Thanks for the review!
Eeeek! What the HELL??? Talk about Dark!Snape. *Shiver*
Response from cmwinters (Author of Nox Maris)
Yeah, I'm not a big fan of creepy!stalker!Snape myself, (I think he can be so much better than that), but that's what she wanted!
Response from cmwinters (Author of Nox Maris)
And thank you for the review! I'm so startled to have seen them I appear to have forgotten basic courtesy! *facewall*
Response from HermioneJeanSnape (Reviewer)
Its all right :) Getting a response to one's review is thanks enough, without you actually saying thanks *Pads the wall so you don't hurt yourself*
At first, I thought this whole plan was a complex practical joke to show Granger the information she wanted to know to the point of making her sick or crazed. That the Daydream Charm mixed with whatever memory Snape had from the Dark Lord, she would merely imagine herself in the middle of whatever was happening, like being in a Pensieve but more personal. He could have accomplished all that, including the perception of being ravaged without him actually compromising himself into any wrong-doing as it would have been part her imagination via the Daydream Charm and part his altered memory that blended together to make the convoluted ‘dream’.
But, regardless of what was real and what was imagined as a result of the potion he created, it was all for naught. The problem with Snape’s revenge was that it did not actually do anything to convince Hermione to stop her quest for more information than is good for her! It didn’t show her that if you do one thing that this other thing might be the result. He just gave her a good fright with no direction to it. Besides, any lesson she could have learned about prying into things that are none of her business, was defeated by Severus Obliviating her! The Patented Daydream Charm wears off by itself. All Snape had to do was remove any evidence of himself from the scene, left the Daydream Charm wrapper as proof of her folly (implying that she had taken it freely for the joyride) and let the horrible ‘daydream’ wear off. Hermione would have retained the memory of the ‘dream’ and he wouldn’t have been implicated. Then again, if all he wanted was the quick shag that Hermione mentions, it was a rather elaborate way of going about it. So why go to all that bother just to Obliviate her?

Now, I had this fic beta'd by several people, and why doesn't anyone else point this out until it's posted here? ;)In fact, it was on LJ for a *year*!I can't really change it now, because it was a gift-fic, but you have a very good point.(Hide now, or I'll look you up for my next exchange. Haha!)
Response from cmwinters (Author of Nox Maris)
I think for some fic readers, the Obliviate is a special kind of dark. When it's cast by someone with the intent of protection, or something like eliminating a bad memory from a child so the child can sleep, even then it's morally grey. But when someone randomly casts Obliviate on someone else . . . what's to prevent them from abusing you constantly, and you never remembering it?(And also, thank you for the review — please forgive my appalling manners!)
Why did Snape go to all that trouble if he was going to obliviate Granger? If she remembered, we could have a fic about her revenge.
Response from cmwinters (Author of Nox Maris)
WOW! A REVIEW! You opened the floodgates; I had a ton of reads yesterday and assumed people were squicked out by the dark factor.Well, you know, he had to keep from being implicated in raping her. ;) And the Obliviate can be a very carefully cast spell and eliminate a very specific set of memories. She'll still remember the werewolf and the cave and the Inferi, you see.
Response from FruGal (Reviewer)
Oooh - bad Severus. Although Hermione didn't sound as though she was going to turn him in.
Response from cmwinters (Author of Nox Maris)
Hey, you're awake like me! DSPS FTW!*ahem*Well, Hermione did actually make that threat "don't expect me to act like this didn't happen" and it wouldn't be prudent for him to allow her to remember that. Thank you for the reviews!
This is delightfully twisted! That Snape getting his revenge and then oblivating her afterwards. Naughty naughty!
Response from cmwinters (Author of Nox Maris)
Thank you very much! I do try to be kinda squicktastic on occasion. ;) But this was my first attempt at horror!
Response from MollysSister (Reviewer)
If I may be so bold to suggest? Write more horror. You do very well at drifting over the line into freakiness!
Response from cmwinters (Author of Nox Maris)
Hee! I have a couple of real doozies in the works. One of 'em came to me while I was *supposed* to be sleeping for school. I only got it to quit getting worse by agreeing with my Batshitrix Lestrange muse that I'd write it.Just for the record, this is what I'm referring to. :pIt's gonna be a psychout fest for sure! I just have to get time to write it (I'm in the middle of studying for a certification, and that has to come first!)
omg, well that was disturbing. I couldn't stop reading though. Smirk!
Response from cmwinters (Author of Nox Maris)
Glad you enjoyed it and that you found it compelling.I just hope I warned sufficiently for it. I certainly like darkfic, but not everyone does, and I know if I didn't, I'd hate to be ambushed! ;)Thanks for the review!
