It's sad to know that because of a stupid "family law" (I don't know how to put it differently) a boy turned evil. Maybe with a bit more love he wouldn't have become what he was.

Yes, I think it's possible that Tom could have been stopped from making the horcruxes, but I don't know that it would have kept him from becoming evil.Tom spent his whole life trying to fit in, but the ways in which he did it weren't very conducive to love. He opened the Chamber of Secrets because (I think) he wanted to show the WW that he was the Heir of Slytherin -- that he belonged. He killed his Muggle father and grandparents so that the WW would never know of his Muggle roots. But yeah, it does suck that the rejection by the Black family was what pushed him over the edge. I mean, Walburga loved him, but her family didn't know who he was. Thanks for reading and reviewing!

This is very good! I love it when someone has such an original take on the Wizarding world. You've made this special bit of it yours.

Thank you! I think Tom had strong inclinations to be a part of the Wizarding world, and since he couldn't get in because, ironically, he wasn't already a part of it, he decided to make some changes to it and himself. Thanks for reading!

Was that the final straw for Tom?
Response from IrishEspressoGirl (Author of Overcoming Prejudice)
I think it was, at least in this story. Tom has already been toying with the idea of splitting his soul, and he's already begun to collect the necessary artifacts. He wanted to be a part of the Wizarding world, and he worked very hard to hide anything about himself that might be cause for objection as far as he could imagine. He finally realizes that this doesn't work when he learns that Walburga's family -- one of the oldest and most prestigious in the Wizarding world -- has rejected him on the basis of something much simpler than that he wasn't a pure-blooded wizard.Since he couldn't be a part of the world as he saw it, he begins taking the steps to change it, and he changes himself irreversibly in the process.
