*hides head under desk*I have to admit that I like the sound of Cyrano Snape and decided on the name before I found out about Cyrano de Bergerac. ...Okay, I know of Cyrano de Bergerac before I decide, but I didn't think his nose was *that* magnificent! :P I only saw a reference to nose and I thought, 'Well, if that isn't a suitable name for Snape's son, I don't know what is ...'I think I should check the name more thoroughly before deciding again in the future.But still, I like the sound of Cyrano Snape, so can we pretend there's no Cyrano de Bergerac in their universe? *sheepish grin*

Aww, don't you like the name? I think it's not as mouthful as Albus Severus is ... ;) It is a Greek name, based on the 17th century soldier, Cyrano de Bergerac. I'm quite fond of the name and there's something about his nose that made me decide this for a name for Severus' son ... :)But thanks for letting me know. :)

It's because of the nose that I say that.  I mean, talk about setting your kid up for teasing.  I do like the name, but that's like calling your kid barney--the poor boy would have everyone on the playground chasing him and saying "I love you, you love me!"  Granted, not every kid knows the story of cyrano de bergerac, but enough do that his nickname will probably be beak-face or something.

I apologize then. I suppose I didn't check to see who this Cyrano de Bergerac really was. I was simply browsing for a name and Cyrano kinda struck to me as a nice name for Snape's son. It was a very rare name and there was a mention of his nose that had made me decide. The play 'Cyrano de Bergerac' tells of 'a quarrelsome, hot-tempered, and unattractive swordsman who falls hopelessly in love with a beautiful woman and woos her for a handsome but slow-witted suitor' - Google Book result. I can't help but immediately thought of Ron as the slow-witted suitor, although handsome can be subjective here, lol.As for nicknames, well, children would always manage to find an embarrasing name for a nickname, despite whatever names your parents gave you. :) They would call him 'beak-face' if they thought it was matching, eitherway. I know that providing this name would be like inviting them to tease your son, haha, but oh well, let's just hope not many Muggleborn at Hogwarts had learnt of Cyrano de Bergerac when they went there. But you know, I didn't know that they had made a movie out of this character, but now I would definitely find a way to watch it. :)
