Good poetry doesn't have to rhyme. Your work with the meter is great, don't let anyone tell you differently. the sentiment expressed is wonderful.

this is absolutely lovely. in a case like this, i definitely believe it's more important to accurately convey the sentiments, as you did, rather than to worry too much about the metrics and rhyming. (i do rather wish you had included the italian version - i would be interested to read it.) thanks for sharing it.

Thank you for your kind words. A poem has a different alchemy from a story, so it's easy to sound "artificial". Evidently, this time my feelings were strong enough to overcome the language barrier. :) Thank you again for your support.
It is beautiful, just like your other reviewers have shared. Even if some of the rhyme is lost in the translation, it still flows well. And it still has kept its universal meaning. Like I told you, a poem like this spans cultures ... and languages, and time. I can see myself at a ripe old age saying these things.

Btw, I agree with one of the other reviewers. It would be nice to see the poem in Italian. Not that I would understand much, but anyway.
