Seventh-year student Hermione Granger decides to marry the one eligible wizard who did not ask for her--the horrid but powerful Severus Snape. All is not sweetness and light. Be careful what you ask for. Or, as has been said by many a wise witch, "Marry in haste; repent in leisure." MLC

Care of Magical Creatures recently received two awards on "Secrets of the Dark Vaults," a Russian fanfic site. Best NC-17 and Best Maxi Translation. The Nine-Year Plan was awarded Best Mini-Fic! I'm delighted to be in translation and to please the readers in Russia!

With the completion of Care of Magical Creatures my fanfic output is going to slow way down, but if you want to be sure to know when new fics post, please follow me on twitter. I don't tweet much, but I'll surely tweet that kind of thing.
About Mia
I came to the world of Harry Potter relatively early, after first resisting it because it just seemed too trendy. But when the first book came out in paperback in the US I picked it up at the airport when I was about to catch a flight, and two chapters in knew I would be ordering the original from amazon.co.uk in hardcover as soon as I landed.
I came to fanfic late, waiting until after I'd read DH. That means I've been totally obsessed with the fanfic world of Harry Potter, and most specifically the SS/HG ship, since August of '07.
I'm helplessly and hopelessly hooked.
Reviews for Care of Magical Creatures
LOL! Well, that was an interesting twist. I did like Hermione's mother. The old hag. I don't think I'd want to tell my friends who they really were either. Much easier for people to think that they're dentists. More, please.

Don't shortchange Lady Granger! LOL!
Too funny in a somewhat dark way. Hermione's parents are less than thrilled, I can't say I blame them since they are in the dark so to speak. Great story flow and you held my interest.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you!
That was wonderful! I loved the how you twisted the 'secretly aristocratic' Snape convention that can be found so often in marriage law fics. Also, Hermione's actually quite believable as that type of upper-class girl.
The mix of humour, moments of seriousness and UST is great too.
I get the feeling that Hermione may not be sleeping on the floor for much longer?
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thanks! I'm glad you like it. And oddly enough, I wasn't consciously thinking of turning convenion on its head -- just trying to come up with parents that "fit" Hermione.

I don't know whether you're American or British, but when I read the chapter and Hermione's Mum appeared - I just thought of Audrey Fforbes-Hamilton from To the Manor Born:

I'm an American Anglophile (which probably explains the mix of Brit and US terminology and spelling which probably drives everybody crazy) and love To the Manor Born! I didn't think of Audrey but she could sure do it!
"If only she knew"...hmmm. Love the way you keep interest peaked in several ways throughout this chapter rather than just the standard cliffy at the end. The wondering what that line meant, wondering what the 'couple' will be going through to play out their roles.. it's nice to have so many aspects to be pondering. Multifacited :)thanks and looking forward to reading more.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you! Yes, there is much to be revealed!
As someone else said, I am wondering what Snape's motives are. He seems not so displeased with this situation, and even more, he seems to be fighting to make sure that it is him that marries Hermione. Interesting indeed. :)
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Snape definitely has his motives. They haven't been revealed, as yet.
Well, that's quite the twist on the old "daughter of dentists marrying wealthy Snape" of the pre-HBP MLC fics! I love how Hermione handles them.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thanks! I never really believed she was the daughter of dentists. I think it's more likely that an aristo family would be willing to let their daughter go missing during hols, etc., since they're accustomed to having their kids in school all year, anyway. Dentists? They'd want their daughter HOME during the summer and hols.
I'm not sure I'll be in the majority, but I like Mrs. Granger. She's pragmatic, cool-headed, and not easily subdued.
And Severus needs to be a bit more accomodating. One narrow bed only?
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I like Mrs. Granger, too. And I definitely think Hermione takes after her!
All those poor guys! I guess they will just have to look elsewhere. Hey - aren't there any other students who are trapped or subjected by this law?
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yes, there are -- and they'll come up later!
Wow, what an interesting begigning.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thanks -- I hope you continue to like it!
Excellent new chapters. I howled with laughter and wibbled so much.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you!
Frightening chapter, Hermione really hits the nail on the head about children.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I don't know if that has been addressed before or not. It just popped into her ("my") head as a strong fear at the end of that scene, and it's rather chilling, isn't it?
I think that you should change your summary. Your warning about it being a dark story put me off reading it until yesterday. "Dark" to me is Snape abusing her or DE's torturing/raping. This is certainly not fluffy, but there's nothing 'scary' up to this point. In any case, I am enjoying this retrospective view of Snape and Hermione as we envisioned their personalities back before HBP. An engrosing tale so far.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
That's a good suggestion. I'll discuss it with my beta, who knows where the story is going, and may take your advice!
Excellent and at the end deeply moving.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you!
Whew! They don't pull any punches, do they? And neither do you...luckily for us. This is a fine story.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you!
Excellent chapter - the mix of humour and drama is perfect.

Thank you!
Thank you so much for the update. I liked this chapter, I am also intrigued by the solidarity within the Slytherin group. I find that solidarity belivable and somewhat necessary, not at least because Slytherins will have little support from the other houses. It also, still in my mind, gives a clue to why Voldemort have manage to gain such power, his main followers are Slytherins, a group standing outside most others and at the same time loyal to eachother when facing an outsider. It leads me to think that if Voldemort had been a Gryffindor, and tried to get his followers from the same house, he would have been defeated a long time ago since they probably wouldn't have stayed loyal to the cause. I am rambling, I know, but your wellwritten description of the Slytherins made my mind wander...:-)) Update again soon!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Excellent point about Gryffs! I think they'd stay loyal to a noble cause (they're doing that right now) but not a cult of personality like Tom Riddle!
Quite the blend of humor (bite my arse!) and pathos (the firstie giving Hermione his new jade serpent) and angst (Hermione's worry for their children). Great chapter.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thanks so very much. I'm putting them through the wringer, but that means I have to go with them. Whew!
There were so many great moments in this, from Hermione nearly getting off of Outstandings to her NEWTs to that funny "bite my arse" (had to bite my cheek not to laugh out loud at that) and to that insightful vow from Hermione. This was a very good chapter.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you, thank you, thank you. This was a chapter where it felt like a lot of "business" needed to get taken care of so I'm very grateful that it worked on the other level, as well.
Excellent new chapter! I'm thoroughly hooked on this story. Lots of arse-biting going on (giggles). I love the dark humor mixed in with the angst. Very nicely done.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thanks. I appreciate all the kind words!
Their snipping is just so hillarious. LOL! And, truly, the last bit where he wanted to say all of those horrible things to her and couldn't even bring himself to do that, well... it just fit very well with the rest of the chapter.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I'm glad you liked it. (And I don't blame him for thinking all those things -- but am glad he didn't say them.)
ah, the happy couple. The bonding gifts given by both Ravenclaw & Hufflepuff Houses was truly thoughtful. At least some people at that school still have manners(!)
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I'm glad you appreciated that!
Enjoying your writing. I really like Snape's snarky thoughts and comments - keeps cracking me up. Looking forward to continued reading.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you!!!
Wow, that was a very powerful ending to this chapter. I loved the traditions in Slytherin House and Snape's welcome to them. I think that it was very in character for him and for how I view that particular House. Wonderful writing!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so very much!
This was a fantastic chapter; the right blend of humour and seriousness.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you! I'm so glad you liked it.
Hehehe "My mind was on other things" indeed. You make me feel manic depressive I was giggling dementedly through the head table interaction then in tears when Hermione asked Severus to swear her that promise. Looking forwards to more as always.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much. She caught me off guard with that promise, too.
