Seventh-year student Hermione Granger decides to marry the one eligible wizard who did not ask for her--the horrid but powerful Severus Snape. All is not sweetness and light. Be careful what you ask for. Or, as has been said by many a wise witch, "Marry in haste; repent in leisure." MLC

Care of Magical Creatures recently received two awards on "Secrets of the Dark Vaults," a Russian fanfic site. Best NC-17 and Best Maxi Translation. The Nine-Year Plan was awarded Best Mini-Fic! I'm delighted to be in translation and to please the readers in Russia!

With the completion of Care of Magical Creatures my fanfic output is going to slow way down, but if you want to be sure to know when new fics post, please follow me on twitter. I don't tweet much, but I'll surely tweet that kind of thing.
About Mia
I came to the world of Harry Potter relatively early, after first resisting it because it just seemed too trendy. But when the first book came out in paperback in the US I picked it up at the airport when I was about to catch a flight, and two chapters in knew I would be ordering the original from amazon.co.uk in hardcover as soon as I landed.
I came to fanfic late, waiting until after I'd read DH. That means I've been totally obsessed with the fanfic world of Harry Potter, and most specifically the SS/HG ship, since August of '07.
I'm helplessly and hopelessly hooked.
Reviews for Care of Magical Creatures
Great chapter--especially that ending bit with the breath potion. It seems to epitomize the whole of the chapter. I am very glad that you added it. Wonderful writing!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you! It's almost magical when things fall into place like that (the breath potion), since I had no idea what that was about when it first came up a couple of chapters ago.
He has absolutely no idea how smitten she is, and I'm not sure if she knows or not. Sense of smell is tied up with physical response on a very basic level.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh, she has no idea. She still feels Very Responsible for His Situation and is doing her best to make it all better. Smirk.
Yes, smell and taste. Yum!
I was reading this chapter while eating fruit cake. Mmm, fav. fiction and food go well together!Sev seems to be confused about Hermione, he has no idea how he got her trust or what to do with it. Ah, the angst! I'm loving it all. :)
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Actually, her perceptions of him come under discussion in the next chapter, and you're right, he's rather frustrated and gobsmacked by the whole thing!
They are certainly getting closer to a real understanding. And Severus was being kind. I like Hermione with a mind of her own, I must admit.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you. She may not always seem like it, but to me she has had a mind of her own since she stormed into his office and demanded that he marry her.
He may be kicking and screaming, but it seems he's also beginning to care. I'd say "awww," but he'd probably hex me. ;-)
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Go ahead and say "awww," but let me get out of the way first.
Response from firefly124 (Reviewer)
You out of the way, then?
Awww.
*ducks and casts protective shield*
They are both morons about social interaction, I believe. But I am starting to see glimmers of hope for them here.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Glimmers are good.
Wow, he really has issues with being trusted. Poor Severus, never to be trusted further than he can be thrown--then to have the bushy-haired Gryffindor know-it-all, vital support to The-Boy-Who-Severus-Despised, place her life and health in his hands without qualm. Again I reiterate, he really doesn't like being trusted does he?I love the progress you're making, having Severus squirm rather than seethe for a while seems good for his health and the development of their relationship.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Good point, about him not liking to be trusted!
You know, she had total faith in him from the very beginning, which is why she barged into his classroom and demanded that he marry her. I wonder if that will ever falter.
Yep. The Gossip of "Snape the brutalizer" will be all over the castle in 1 second flat. And with them being at odds with everyone else in the castle, that's Not A Good Thing. Well, they gotta learn how to trust and rely upon each other sometime, and it might as well be now. *sigh*
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
You know, I wasn't sure if Hermione was right or not. I think it's possible that Poppy would be too professional to reveal such info. But it makes no difference, since Hermione isn't going to take any chances!
Thank you for taking time to comment, as always. I appreciate it!
IIRC you called me a tease a while ago.
Now I return that sentiment. ARGH! Where oh where is the next chapter???
Lovely, btw. Poor, frustrated Severus!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
You know, I feel so sorry for my Sev, but most people just want to throttle him.
That's so sweet. Are they ever going to kiss?!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh yes, they will kiss!
This is a well written story. Please keep updating it for those of us waiting to see what happens next.~liese
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you! The next chapter is in the queue!
Great, juuust great..... Now I'll be forced to check for an update every bloody day. Thank you soo much... I hope for your sake, that it won't take too long for the updates.(About that detention I promised you last time, should it commens, dear proffesor Sprout has agreed to oversee you).
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Sprout?!?
That's a bit below the belt, isn't it? ::glower::
I think it's possible the next chapter might be up today or tomorrow!
That chapter was certainly chock full o'...well, I'm not sure exactly what it was chock full o', but it certainly was chock full. Wow, I'm not being very coherent. Great chapter, let's just leave it there.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Love it -- chock full o' sump'n, how's that?
Thank you!
ok - what were the feeling of Sev...noted in the chapter after shamed?..... If she only knew - If only any of them knew? - and in this chapter "He was not a dirty old git" He is being really thick at sorting out his feelings....or maybe I'm the one being thick......
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh, I'm glad you mentioned that "If only they knew..." because I wondered if it was clear. He's referring to what was later revealed in Chapter 11. She and Dumbledore, etc. think he married her to save HER. He married her to save Draco (and subsequently his other Slytherins) from taking the Dark Mark.
And yes, he's thick about sorting out his feelings. Hopefully he's getting there, though.
They really need to figure out a way to be happy together, don't they?
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Trial and error -- they'll get there!
For a moment you had me think she had been mutilated. Your Hermione is certainly unpredictable, either in canon or in fanon terms. Looking forward to understanding what's going on and who she is and why.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yes, I do think she's going to be understood a little more as we get further into the story. Let's face it, she's had a hard week! Thank you!
I'm glad to see he's waking up a bit! I really like the way you used the Legilimency scene. It gives him a bit more of the picture, but doesn't yet paint the whole picture.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you! It didn't occur to me until a reader pointed it out in a comment that I'd used legilimency w/o it being a clear picture window, and rather still left things up to interpretation. I suppose that might be a little different from canon, since in canon the penseive and legilmency seem to be pretty straight-forward. But this is the way it seemed to work to me, so I hope it's not too far off canon for readers.
I think Snape's explanation is understandable. Seeing how paranoid he is about kissing (as you mentioned before) and his experience with Lucius and Narcissa, I can see how he would view sex as simply a way of bartering for control. He's got just as many issues to work through as Hermione.
Despite that, I am still pleased to see him feeling guilty in this chapter. :) I think it was important for him to see how much he had hurt her. Hopefully, he'll be a *lot* more gentle next time.
I like how your legilimency, though it clarified things for Severus, didn't just 'fix' everything instantly. Snape is more enlightened, but still can't communicate his feelings, Hermione still thinks he finds her unattractive, etc.
They've got so much to work through, but you do get a sense that they are really falling for each other.
Really enjoying this and looking forward to more.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much for the thoughtful review. It's really gratifying to know specifics that please people!
Aaaw!! I love how Hermione is standing up to him and demanding care from him, and only him. This is a great story, I can't wait to read the next chapter!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you. Is it impolite of me to say that I loved that, too? (I also loved that she grabbed him by the hair; turnabout is fair play!)
I just love it when Severus looks like a smacked behind. I bet he feels bad that he jumped to conclusions, but being Severus he'll not admit it unless he has to.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
It would take a very evil writer to crush him down flat enough that he had to admit that, now, wouldn't it?
Response from sinbad (Reviewer)
Too true~ LOL
Oh gosh, excellent chapter. I still think they've both got a long way to go before they will ever be happy together.
Keep up the angst and anger.............I love it!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh yes, a long way to go, indeed. But that's what makes it fun, right?
Thank you!
Great chapter, it read even better because I was listening to Bartok's Viola Concerto - give it a listen while you read, it definitely adds a certain something to this chapter!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh, please give specifics. I immediately dashed to iTunes to download but there were several to chose from!
Response from remy (Reviewer)
Bartok's Viola Concerto, I believe I was listening to the second mvmnt, (Lento) while I was reading. It sounds a bit melodramatic in the beginning, but the second half of it really seemed to capture the rain and then the scene where they talk in front of the fireplace.
There's something so passionate about Bartok...but then again, I'm in a Bartok mood, lol
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Okay, I'm sold! I've got to check that out. I'll download it from iTunes. (I mentioned this on my livejournal blog today, by the way!) http://miamadwyn.livejournal.com
Another great chapter. I love the way you write these two. I like how each obstacle is quickly overcome, then just as quickly replaced with another. Wonderful job portraying the emotions and hurt on each side. As ever, looking foward to the next installment - thank you for sharing this!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thanks so much! I like your perception of the obstacle/overcoming/new obstacle cycle.
Hello again!
Well, his explanation was a little disturbing but I suppose that's a logical conclusion for a man like Severus. He would understand the necessity of doing anything to protect oneself from any unwelcome attack.
Wat I liked most about the chapter was Severus' conflicted emotions. I consider this chapter is a breaking point in their relationship and I'm curious to know what will happen next!
Well, I should be working. I read this at work and my boss will be here any second now!
Keep up the good work!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yes, I wondered how "I meant it as a compliment" would go over. And of course, he didn't mean it as a "wow, nice blow job" compliment, but that from a Slytherin p.o.v. it would have made sense for a young woman who might want to please the boyfriend while retaining her virginity. (Not just slytherin, for that matter, but something a Slytherin would appreciate.)
Response from MidniteOil (Reviewer)
Yes, Slitherins have their own twisted way of thinking!
Poor Hermione, to offer to change herself for him and to do anything to please him even when he acts so terribly. Well, let's see if the self-loathing will soften him a little!
