Oh dear, Severus always has been one to cut off his nose to spite his face, and apprently so is Hermione, thank goodness they are both coming around to seeing sense, at long last.

Exactly how did she "trap" him, if she really did "trap" him?

This was amazing - the voice you used to capture Michael was simply incredible.  I see a lot of reviewers have said something along the lines of "how cruel of Hermione," but I wonder how most people would react if they were truly forced into a marriage with weekly conjugal duties, to a man that had shown them nothing but bitterness in the past.  They are both stubborn and proud, and the situation only exacerbated those traits.I think you wrote this the best possible way... Had they stayed in a loveless marriage "for the sake of the child," they would have ended up resentful and the child would have likely suffered for it.  By giving them time apart, they were able to reconcile their mistakes and feelings and actually choose the way they wanted to proceed, rather than having the Ministry decide for them.Bravo to you - this was very well done.

Thank you so much! It's hard sometimes when writing this stuff to make the characters (espeically the ones we ship) behave badly towards one another - even with provocation. It's something people don't really want to read, and when they do, they get upset.Having said that,I tried to make it as IC as possible without the expected romance, except the hint at the end.I'm so glad that you picked up on that and that you enjoyed it! :)Thank you again!

I thought I saw all tyhe stories from the Anything Goes challenge but clearly I missed this. Such a shame from me. It's a very noce story and I'm glad it ends with a note of hope.

Wonderful. So typically Snape to do things in anger and then try to make amends. Thanks for sharing.

After reading this again, I love it even more.  Michael just wants his mum to be happy and have his father back; what child wouldn't want that.  Great story.

Very sweet. And cruel and petty of Hermione to keep Severus out of their son's life for so long. At least that seems to be changing.

Response from sc010f (Author of The Best We Did)

Thank you - I tried to give it the hopeful ending that it needed.

It seems that they have come full circle in this.  Maybe they can both be a bit more adult this time around.  It would benefit Michael/Alexander.

Response from sc010f (Author of The Best We Did)

Thank you so much for reading/reviewing - I truly hope that the second time around will be better! :)

Funny how often we do things because we think that's what someone else wants.  She thinks she can read him better than anybody (and maybe she can), but I'm not sure either read the other very well once upon a time. And it's nice to think some things can eventually be repaired (though too much time may pass!).  Lovely and rather sad....

Response from sc010f (Author of The Best We Did)

Thank you so much!I think you're the first person to read this (and review) that's really hit the nail on the head with this - they did exactly what they did to hurt the other, but ended up only hurting themselves.and yes, the ending is hopeful but sad!

One week in Hogwarts and he'll know who his father is. I'm sure it was covered in the papers :D

Response from sc010f (Author of The Best We Did)

Indeed - the possibility of "what happens when he gets to school" is a plot bunny that is niggling at me. :)

very good - but way too short!

Response from sc010f (Author of The Best We Did)

Thank you! Would it help to hear that I'm seriously thinking about expanding this?

No matter how they got together, they will always share a bond through their son. Perhaps that time apart allowed them to see what was good about their time together. I loved how the story came full circle at the end.

Response from sc010f (Author of The Best We Did)

Thank you very much! And thanks for the review!

I liked this. I think if they had been forced into it they may have divorced. But I like that he wants to try again. At least that is the impression I got.

Response from sc010f (Author of The Best We Did)

I think they both want to try again. I'm glad you liked this! Thanks for your review!

wow--very moving.  The short bits are quite powerful, and tell the story very well.  I think I'm going to go cry now...Great job!!

What a lovely piece! It's cute to know that Hermione and Severus are probably giving themselves a second start.

This is actually a little sad.  But, it's good.  I would love to see a sequal to this -- an actual family.~*

I've been contemplating a longer version and a sequel - perhaps after October . . . Thanks for the review!

That is so cute at the end. I like the fact that they have to really start over to attempt a real courtship. I really hope that you would consider continuing this story.

Response from sc010f (Author of The Best We Did)

Thank you! I am thinking about continuing and expanding the story - perhaps after October!

Nice work.  So many great stories have been writen about them being forced together that it's really quite refreshing to explore what would happen once they are allowed to part.

Response from sc010f (Author of The Best We Did)

Thank you so much.
