Severus takes drastic measures to secure Hermione's love. Response to the Twelve Days of Christmas challenge at GS100. This is not a Christmas story.

Just an avid reader who somehow stumbled into HP fanfiction. I read and sometimes, I write.
Reviews for The Twelve Dark Days of Christmas
The ending is still shocking on a reread. That he would leave himself so open, so dependant on her. Does that speak of devotion or that he is a bit nutso? Either way me likey!

*grins* Glad it was still just as shocking the second time 'round. I'm not sure what it speaks of, but I'm glad you like it either way! *hugs you* Thanks, hon!
What was the back story on this again? They were coworkers, she fell in love and he snapped?
Response from sshg316 (Author of The Twelve Dark Days of Christmas)
Yeah, that was pretty much it. When she told him, he sort of went off the deep end. *nods*
How low this poor Severus has sunk. Sniffles. Yes I am padding my review count by rereading old stories. does this make me a bad person? or just sneaky?
Response from sshg316 (Author of The Twelve Dark Days of Christmas)
I know. I was really not nice to him in this fic.
It makes you cunning, love. *nods* ;)
Shug does dark!ficIt brings goosebumps to my arms even though I know what will happen! MEEP!
Response from sshg316 (Author of The Twelve Dark Days of Christmas)
Yeah ... and Shug will not be doing that again. Probably. Most likely. *nods*
*muah* Thanks, honey!
*gasp* He drank the potion?? I would have thought when he made the potion and said it over and over that love does not last, he was referring to what Lily did to him... but it wasn't meant for Hermione, was it? He needed her there for the last ingredient, their blood. Why did he drink it? Does he has to go to such extend to ensure that his love for Hermione would last? Oh, I know... he did that so that if Hermione ever felt like leaving him, she wouldn't have the heart to do so, because she knew he was potion-bounded to love her. He wouldn't live if she left him and she will have to live with that... kinda like reverse phychology or something...
As surprise and confuse as I am right now, I'm relieved he didn't force it on Hermione, somehow. That I can't accept.
But THIS is brilliant. Thought I should point it out, in case you think I thought otherwise... I love the twist.

Thank you very much! I'm so glad you liked the twisty ending. As to your questions ...
In my mind, he drank the potion because he thought it was the only
way to keep Hermione's love. He wasn't used to dealing with his
emotions, and here he is making a decision solely based on emotion ... and this is what he came up with. He felt he had to change
himself permanently in order for her to love him forever. Given his obsessive love for Lily, and how that ended, I thought this sort of twisted thinking worked for his character.
Hope that helps! Thanks, again! :)

He hadn't intended for Hermione to see him brewing that, had he? He wanted to keep it from her, and suddenly emerge a love-bound er, lover to her. She already said she loves him... so we know that she won't leave him. Hermione's not like that, Severus would be more likely to push her away. That's it. He's good at potions, so naturally he felt the only way to secure his love for her ( and like you said, deals with his emotion) is through potions... He wants to keep himself from having thoughts that he didn't deserve her, from wanting to push her away. He's more twisted for wanting to go through with it even after Hermione had found out. Hermione will have to face the fact that any endearment he shows was from the potion.

Yes, that's exactly it! And poor Hermione. It's just horrible for her all the way around.
Well surprise! You got me on the ending, didn't think he'd drink it. Well done.

Thank you! I'm glad the twist at the end surprised you. :D
