I am a grateful fan of Ms. Rowling and of her overwhelming Byronic Character, Severus Snape! Please check out the first chapters of each fic (except for "How Can I Tell You," which is on Chapter 2) to see pictures of the Heroines.

So sad...:(
Thank you for sharing your story!
Ooooohhh. Bad day for Severus Snape. "Harry Potter starts Hogwarts in the fall." Indeed!

I couldn't help myself. It was just too perfect! :)Thanks for reviewing!Livvy
Wow. I really liked it. You can understand it, but how much of a torment would it be to see someone who was the spitting image of the one you love day in and day out and know that it wasn't them? But there was closure to an extent so it wasn't a sad ending just sorta wistful almost. Very well done, I truly enjoyed it.

Thank you soo much! This was, I think, my second fanfic. I thought of making it longer, but this seemed like the best way to write it. I'm glad you liked the ending.Thank you for reviewing!Livvy

That was only your second fic? Wow that makes me like it just that much more. I wish my early ones were done half as well as that. It's truly amazing.
Oh my, this is very sad. And with the timing of it, we know for certain that Serena is not Lily's reincarnation. (Not that I think that people's reincarnations look like their past lives.) Until you mentioned Harry, I wasn't sure if that was where you were going with this, but it didn't seem like it.Poor Severus, his entire life has been unhappy. But at least he didn't destroy young Serena. One more good deed to chalk up for the miserable creature. He is one whose happiness in life has been in doing what is right. I don't mean that he only did good things, but almost all his happiness has been the satisfation of a job well done or of doing the moral thing, rather than the delight of joyous events and getting what he wants.

This story came from an experience I had in college. There was a girl on campus that apparently looked like me and both guys and gals would stop me and say, "Hey, Amy!" One guy honestly thought I was playing a joke on him by telling him I wasn't Amy.I set out to track her down and when I did, she told me there were a bunch of people calling her Olivia and she was looking for me. I have to admit the simliarities were remarkable.I thought about what people say that somewhere in the world everyone has a twin. And I thought what would happen if Severus was faced with a student who looked exactly like Lily? How would he react, how would he react to her growing up and becoming a woman? I wanted there to be a resolution that Serena was NOT Lily and that he would come to an acceptance of that. I think when they made love, the "spell" was broken and then he could let Serena go.The "Harry" part at the end was a lightbulb moment and it was too good to pass up. But yes, this seems to be the fate of Snape's life. Happiness within reach, only to be taken away time and time again so that others can prosper.Thank you for reviewing. It had been a while since anyone had reviewed this piece and it is very dear to my heart.Livvy

I'm glad you liked it. The ending was a stroke of inspiration, I pondered for days how to end it when it popped in my head. I was pleasantly suprised that so many people like the ending best of all.
Thanks for reviewing!

This was a truly touching story. I really liked the last bit, the sentence where Serena is walking away from Hogwarts. This story really, truly made me hurt inside. I have always felt so sorry for Snape, how he did all those courageous things and never got any thanks or recognition for them until he was dead and gone. Though, of course, practically no one knew he had been so brave.
I think that Severus didn't really mind dying. He didn't really want to live after James and Lily got married, and her dying just solidified that death wish. During the war I'm sure the only thing that kept him going was the thought that he was protecting Lily's son, and then he learned that even that wasn't true, that Harry would have to die in order to defeat Voldiebutt (to steal from another story). But it would still be nice if Severus got his own 'Happily ever after'. He really deserves it, though it will never be so, though we make numerous fanfictions about it.
But back to you and your story. I loved it, though it was sad. Lately I've been reading fluffy stories, and this was desperately needed. I needed to be brought back into reality, even if I'm kicking and screaming while doing it.
Thanks from the bottom of my heart for a truly wonderful story.

Thank you so much. I agree, I thought Snape got a rubbish death and that he deserved to really LIVE after so much pain, but perhaps you are right, death maybe was the most welcoming thing for him. I just wished he could have gone down in a more befitting fashion, because besides Dumbledore, he was the greatest and most powerful wizard. I would have liked to see him go down "in a blaze of glory", but Rowling owns him.
The thought came to me as a "what if"? I love Snape, there is a bit of Snape in all of us, who suffered the pain of rejected love, bullies in school, insecurities, but he was emotionally stunted, for as brilliant as he was, he had the emotional development of a 15 year old. I believe when he called Lily a 'mudblood", and their relationnship ended, he stopped developing emotionally. And that is just plain sad.
Serena was my gift to Snape. She wasn't Lily, but "at least he didn't destroy her." And I think that would have been profound if it had been a part of canon. But Snape must be Snape, and it just could not be for him.
Thanks for reviewing. It means so much.

I didn't see where this story was going when I first started reading it, but the ending was what really did it in! Ha. Poor Snape, having to end up being reminded of Lily forever. That piece of irony was amazing; this story was well-written as well. :)

you wrote that really wonderfull. one could sense the shock in his face, when this girl rose from her seat in the back row. and there stood lilly and not-lilly.some have to suffer all their lifes, it seems. and your ending was perfect. just as he resumes, that he will miss Serenas and Lillys eyes, Dumbledore promises him 7 more years with a person who owns Lillys eyes. *lol* its so sadistic and funny. yes.the girl did a good job, she confronted him constantly with her OWN personality, demanding to have a right to live THIS and not the life of a different person.I'll stop here. I just talk to much.thank you for the story.salva
