Reviews for Speaking in Tongues
This is getting very, very exciting! So many unanswered questions... and layers and layers of mystery! PS: A very happy new year to you! I have been a bit MIA for quite some time :P
Author's Response: Hey, good to hear from you! Happy New Year to you too, thanks so much for continuing to read and support me :) Hope all is well with you, I'm about to go a bit MIA myself as work is about to go seven shades of mental, so it's unlikely I will have much headspace to write but I *will* finish this story some way or another, it just might take longer than I was hoping for!
It's just starting to get exciting! I've been wondering what will transpire, and if the intent is to stick with canon ( I don't mind if not). Also, I'm quite curious to see if my tentative theory about Severus and Rosetta's past is even remotely close.
Looking forward to the next chapter; Thank you!
Author's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to both read and review! I am trying very hard to stick to canon as much as I can and it's getting to a very tricky bit with tying up the plot points of CoS with my own plot points! It's going to take a bit of thinking about to make it work, so thank you for sticking with it :)
Chapters are too short!!! 😭 I just want to continue reading!!!
Author's Response: I'll take that as a compliment! This story is a work in progress so I write in what little spare time I have. I'll try and update soon, it's getting to a tricky bit where it all has to tie up nicely with canon. Thanks for reading, I hope you'll continue to stick with it and enjoy.
I do find it odd that no one else seems to have connected a snake as the possible beast the heir of slytherin controls, but I guess I could see why, given the incident with Aragog earlier in its history. Curious to see what Dumbledore will (or won't) tell her once she speaks with him.
Author's Response: Thanks so much for reading and leaving a note, I hope you'll continue to read (and hopefully enjoy!)
Ah, so powerfully bittersweet, this chapter! Looking forward to more :)
Author's Response: Thank you my dear for continuing to read and review :) xx
Was there a glitch this chapter upload?
Author's Response: Yes, the last few times I've posted a chapter it's duplicated the post and won't let me delete it.
I'll admit my memory is crap, but for the life of me I can't think what would have Snape so down at this point, unless it's just the misery of having no one to celebrate your birthday with. :(
Author's Response: For me, he's down because birthdays are meaningless- it's just another year without Lily, another year without love, another year spent atoning for past mistakes. Poor man.
looking forward to more of this interesting story!
Author's Response: Thank you very very much!
Interested to see what happens next.
Author's Response: Thank you. I'll update as quickly as I can. RL is a bit hectic but Rosetta's character has been with me a long time and I am determind to complete the tale.
Very interested to see why Snape would be sad about Rosetta not remembering him, and why she simply cannot recall him. You'd think her mind/memory had been messed with.
Author's Response: You'd think, wouldn't you? *not giving anything away face*
I'll be honest, the name of your character strikes me as forced, and somewhat cheesy, yet many of the canon character's names do as well, so I'm overlooking that. I understand why you chose it.
More importantly, your story is interesting and I am intrigued enough to continue on and see what deep dark secrets our Rosetta seems to be hiding.
For the sake of picturing her in my mind, is she the lone dark-skinned witch we see at the staff tables in the movies? Or is that not who you imagine her to be?
Looking forward to seeing what happens in the future.
Author's Response: Yes, nominative determinism is something rife is the Potterverse and I thought if it's good enough for JKR then it's good enough for me! Plus, it put me on the path to the plot so without the name I might not have the story. Very glad you weren't put off by the name and that you're enjoying the story. In terms of "my" Rosetta, I see her very much as Nicole Beharie as Abbie Mills in the TV show "Sleepy Hollow". Hope you continue to read and enjoy.
Oh, thank you for the scene in the staff room; I've been wondering about it many times Albus just asks for their trust, and they all comply... Yeah, I guess, they would. Snape is behaving oddly indeed, but no one besides Rosetta finds that strange. Thanks for this new chapter!
Author's Response: THANK YOU for continuing to read and review :)
He's got a bad conscience, I'd say. Has he mistreated her as a true D.E. and was probing that her memory is still well hidden?
Author's Response: Nope, not quite :)
So, she met the sour Potions Master... always a joy.Hm, there are at least two black students in Harry's year, Dean and Blaize. Neither of their houses seem to have problems with the fact. But for a teacher, it might still be different.
Author's Response: It's the 1990s in the UK and sadly racism is still very much a part of life (the high-profile murder of Stephen Lawrence in 1993 shows as much). I don't see why that would not effect the wizarding world, especially as they are so hung up on the notion of blood purity.
You've put quite an intriguing person to the centre of your story. She will undoubtedly liven up the staff.
I like the pace and the idea, as I'm partial myself to learning languages. And here I had to laugh or sigh... the concept that languages come "for free" to a few gifted ones strikes me as very typical for native speakers of English (either side of the Atlantic). The rest of us simply doesn't have the luxury to shrug and declare us ungifted. We have to struggle through the process of hard work and dull repetition no matter what.
Now I have to head on to Sept 1st and watch her at the head table for the new school year.
Author's Response: Thank you for reading and reviewing, I'm glad you find Rosetta intriguing :) I don't think the idea of having a natural aptitude for languages is any different from, say, having a natural talent for art, or music, or sports etc. But still requires hard work to develop that talent. Magic as defined in Harry Potter is a gift that you are born with (which is why they obsessed with blood purity), so it follows that magical languages may well be an innate thing too. Hope you continue to read and enjoy.
*Goosebumps* this gets quirkier.
Author's Response: I've made it a bit tricky for myself haven't I? LOL.

Author's Response:
The language geek in me is delighted with this chapter!
Author's Response: Thank you for sticking with this, dear! It's been so busy lately I've not had much time to devote to this story. But I will finish it, it will just take longer than I originally hoped.
I'm wondering what Dumbledore is getting at... given his meddlesome ways!
Author's Response: You are very wise to wonder... That's all I'm saying for now. Thank you again for sticking with this one.
My curiosity levels are rising with every chapter. And I'm hungrily waiting for Mr Snark to make more appearances. ;)
Author's Response: Oh he will ;)
'Glared right back.'
Wow. A brave lady, this one!
(A million apologies for the delay. RL is being hectic. :( )
Author's Response: THANK YOU for continuing to read! I have to apologise for being slow to update - RL is hectic here too, but I haven't given up on Rosetta and Severus, and I'm very glad you haven't either :)
MayavanavihariniHarini's response: Well, of course I won't give up on these two :)
Wonderful job so far, I look forward to seeing how the story progresses.

Thanks for the support! Life is a bit hectic right now but I hope I won't leave you too long before updating.
Fascinating start.
Response from star_girl (Author of Speaking in Tongues)
Very kind, thank you. :)
It appears to be a transition chapter of changing one's life complicated by the fact that the change may be temporary. It also seems that it will try to weave Rosetta's story with Potter's at Hogwarts - a challenging undertaking. A description of a character thrown into the middle of things as the Headmaster is wont to do.

I definitely haven't made life easy for myself with this one! Might take me a while to update but I hope you'll stick with it. Thanks for reading and reviewing :)
