Mrs Lugubrious is author of a little-known monograph entitled Sexual Deviancy Among the Banshees of Killarny. The paper was never accepted into the Wizarding journals of her day, possibly due to concerns surrounding her unorthodox research methods. Only one original copy is still in existence, and may be perused in the Hogwarts Library (Restricted Section).

I imagine I'm not the only one who was reminded of the poem "The Naming Of Cats" by TS Eliot -- part of the "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats" which was transformed into the long-running musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber.  The poem does say that each cat needs three names -- an ordinary daily name, a second name "that's particular -- a name that's peculiar and more dignified", and a third name which only the cat knows.  I presume that Permelia must be Mrs. Norris's second name, the one which allows her to "keep up [her] tail perpendicular." The poem also says that "no human research can discover" the name which the cat calls itself...but then again, Firenze is not human!

Thank you for your thoughtful comments. It's been wonderful to hear from so many T.S. Eliot fans in response to this drabble, here and on GS100. I'm enchanted by your idea Firenze might know her third name! <3

This made me think of Colonel Brandon reading to and Marianne in the movie Sense and Sensibility:“For whatsoever from one place doth fall, Is with the tide unto an other brought: For there is nothing lost, that may be found, if sought.”Well done.Beth
