Oh goodness. Well, apparently it was meant to be, and nothing was going to change that. Poor guy. :( Nicely done, though.

Oh yes, I needed to fit it in with canon, which means he had to fail. :(
Here, have my guts. You've torn them out anyway. Painful but necessary. Damn those fixed points in time. (Tho' it would be interesting to visit what 'time' would do to 'fix things' had he actually listened)Wonderful job. Well done.

Thanks :) I'm so sorry to upset you :( Fixed points in time can be very useful to an author not brave enough to make her story too AU :D

Your really did a great job. (And go ahead and be brave about going AU--your Beta will reign you in if you go too AU) (FYI SS/DU is WAY too AU)(Arghhh need brain bleach now. I thought it!!!!!)

Agree completely. Go and read some nice SS/HG; that'll do the trick!
Some points in time cannot be altered... So I've heard...

Ah yes; the basis of any good fantasy story.
I've always thought there were some lessons we just have to learn the hard way. You've captured that sense really well here. Nicely done! :)

Yep, his hands were tied, poor bloke. :(
You handled The Reply perfectly. It's such a sad ending, but it fits "sticking with canon," and is a good illustration of why we should "teach" the reasons why and not rely only on the "what to do or not do."Beth

Thanks. I'm glad you liked it.
Sad. A good example of how the what is less important than the why.
I see this all the time with training classes. It is OK to say what to do but if you don't accompany it with why to do it, it often won't be done.
People always think they know a better way than what is being suggested -- which accounts for most traffic tickets, teen smoking/drug use/sex, and many over-extended credit cards. This is not to say that explaining the why would stop us from doing things that have profoundly negative consequences, just that without it, there really isn't much hope.

Exactly. That's why I set the letter a mere 2 weeks after Lily's death when he was still grief-stricken and not thinking properly, but so desperate to stop it from ever happening.
Some things just can't be changed, no matter how we try.

Dr Who calls them 'fixed points in time' - without them, the story just wouldn't work. :(
Poor Severuses, both of them. They both tried their best, but in the end, they couldn't change time.Thank you for the sequel!

You're welcome! I couldn't just leave it at the one letter. :)
