Poor Matilda, there is nothing sadder than a new desk, no rings, from hot coffee, or cold drinks, no ink stains, no scrapes and scratches, no life. It takes time to bring character to a desk.

clever Minister Shacklebolt, to test the idea of a marriage law. Tragic that precisely this might lead to the ashes of a true office desk of a true original office lady. Oh these howlers.Knew, they were no good at all.But you soothed poot Mathilda with this lovely "ode to her loyalty to a desk". She might  get over the loss when reading your work.

I'm glad there are cleverer people than me leaving reviews... I admit to being completely lost on this one.  I absolutely loved the developing scene, but couldn't actually see what was going on... yes, I'm dippy.  It's incredible that you managed to write this in such a short time.  I was carried along nicely, and even on the fourth read, I'm still smiling at the end.  Excellent read.

Response from lady_rhian (Author of In Which Matilda's Office Suffers The Wrath of a Confused Populace; or, The Despairing Desk)

I'm thrilled you kept trying; we've all had days like that where the eyes just couldn't process. Thank you for reading,

That's so clever!  I hope Kingsley gets her a really nice new desk.

He should, shouldn't he? Thanks so much, Rose!

Can we set this to a jaunty tune, come up with a catchy refrain, and sing it in a tavern while swinging tankards of ale? It can be called "The Ballad of Matilda Flack," and it will serve as a cautionary tale for generations to come!(In all seriousness... you pulled off poetry in four days? Wow.)

Response from lady_rhian (Author of In Which Matilda's Office Suffers The Wrath of a Confused Populace; or, The Despairing Desk)

I will swing tankards of ale right alongside you,

Response from lady_rhian (Author of In Which Matilda's Office Suffers The Wrath of a Confused Populace; or, The Despairing Desk)

! I wanted to do something fun/risky/challenging this week, and since I'm not a poet, poetry seemed like the way to go! Plus it let me be ridiculous. :-)

Ooh, poetry, very impressive! Though, ack, poor matilda!

Response from lady_rhian (Author of In Which Matilda's Office Suffers The Wrath of a Confused Populace; or, The Despairing Desk)

Thanks! I'm not a poet, so I'm really glad that it worked (in however ridiculous a fashion!).

And that's what happens when you pass a marriage law! *snicker!*(I must be reading too many kid's books with my three - this oddly reminded me of the Miss Spider storybooks!)

Response from lady_rhian (Author of In Which Matilda's Office Suffers The Wrath of a Confused Populace; or, The Despairing Desk)

~snickers~ Indeed! And LOL to the storybooks - there is definitely a correlation with the sing-songy rhyme.

My compliments on the form. It certainly is intersting and captivating, yet I got confused. Let me summarize: Minister's advisors thought to propose a marriage law, the minister thought it was preposterous so he alerted the public. The public reacted violently, sending hate mail to the minister's office which all landed on the beloved desk of his secretary.Yes?

Response from lady_rhian (Author of In Which Matilda's Office Suffers The Wrath of a Confused Populace; or, The Despairing Desk)

You've got it! I wanted to do something a bit risky, just for fun this week.
