Chanson de Severus

Severus watches. He reflects on how things went so far so fast. Not a true chanson de geste, since it follows none of the prescribed meters. But it is a romance of deeds, though some not as heroic as tradition would have it.

I'm a middle-aged, professional writer of non-fiction and would-be professional writer of fiction who also writes Harry Potter fanfiction just for fun.
I’m a proud member of the Harry Potter Old Lady Smut Brigade, which means I’m most interested in the older female characters in the Harry Potter saga, particularly Minerva McGonagall.
If I had received my Hogwarts letter back in nineteen-mumble-mumble, I would most likely have been sorted into Ravenclaw, or so everyone tells me, probably because I’m a geeky data-freak (my Real Life™ requires me to read piles of medical journal articles.) I, however, think I’d feel right at home in Hufflepuff too, so I consider myself a Ravenpuff.
The fics I write may contain adult themes, and I will always warn for non-con, graphic violence, bestiality, incest, or underage sex. I don't warn for homosexual relationships or sex, or for threesomes/moresomes, unless they contain one of the aforementioned elements.

I maintain a master list of (mostly Minerva-centric) recs at Diigo.

This is absolutely beautiful. So well-written and deep. I pity them both, I pity them all. You've really captured the desperation both must have felt.
Very well written. It kept me drawn in and reading even while my brain was saying No- Minerva would never cheat on Albus.
I'm glad you're writing MM/AD. I really enjoy that pair and don't see a lot of good fics about them.
Response from Squibstress (Author of Chanson de Severus)
Thank you.I never thought Minerva would cheat, either, but it occurred to me as one possible reaction to Dumbledore's manipulation.I love writing MM/AD--or MM/anyone, really--and am glad you enjoy reading it.Got a few more over on FFN that I am slowly trying to polish and archive here, so watch this space if you're interested. Thanks for readding and reviewing!Cheers!
ITA that it's a creepy song. Went looking for Verve Pipe's I Want You live and came across it. I have his Best of album so I gave it a listen. Man, that song's got ANGST written all over it! I personally don't "get" McGonagall in this. I don't think she fits. Or maybe it's acturally that I don't see Snape being the triad. Because I don't see any dynamic between Snape and McGonagall past them being colleagues and long-time acquaintances. I could however see, say, Moody instead of Snape. I think that dynamic could work extremely well considering Moody and McGonagall are fiesty. But I will stand back and look at this story objectively and say that it is very well written. It did give me the creeps though...

I didn't do much with McGonagall in this one, certainly. It seems OOC, but it seemed to me that her actions are one possible response to Dumbledore's manipulation.I see Snape--in this version--as suffering from a sort of arrested development. He doesn't know how to deal with strong emotions and relationships, and his only models are Dumbledore and his abusive parents.I"ve always thought Snape and McGonagall would make a good--if odd--couple. Smart, powerful, don't suffer fools gladly, etc. And they're both stuck with Albus and his machinations. I like the Moody/McGonagall 'ship quite a lot, too. Opposites attract and all that. Thanks for the comments, and for reading!Cheers!
Very good vignettes. I enjoyed reading them. Opinions may vary, but even though the song inspired them, I think the snippets of the song get in the way. I skipped them. Perhaps that caused me to miss part of the story.

That's always an issue with songfics, which is one reason I've never written one until now.I put a version without the interpolated lyrics on FFN; to my mind, though, the vignettes need a frame, although perhaps this isn't the best one.Cheers, and thanks for reading and reviewing!
