This is a very powerful story. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much for taking a chance on original fiction! I really appreciate your review!
I liked the slow build here. The tension within the family was palpable. And using Oscar to voice his and the reader's confusion about the holiday worked very well. The reveal was bittersweet -- bitter because of the sad truth, and sweet because of how Kevin handled the situation. Gail and Judy had their own difficulties play out rather dramatically, but it was Oscar and Kevin who stuck with me. I enjoyed what you did with the prompt; thank you for sharing.

Thank you so much for taking a chance on original fiction. I always appreciate readers who are willing to try something unproven, and it means so much to me that you would take the time out from the fun of fanfic to tackle a weighty one like this. Your review is much appreciated!
Trust a small child to bring up the thing that no one wants to talk about. I liked the way you formed the characters. I have an impression of what their lives were like growing up just by watching them handle this situation.

Thank you! This prompt, "elephant in the room", was tough! This was an older work, so it is hard to look back at stuff you've written in the past and not see how amateurish it is. So I thank you especially for your very kind review just for that reason!
Beautifully done. At first, I thought it was Judy who was dying. You portrayed Kevin's acceptance and Judy's anger/despair perfectly. So often the child is quite serene while the parents go to pieces around him.

I'm glad you liked this! This was a little bit of an older one, and I was angling hard for the prompt without having to say the actual phrase. Thanks for always being so supportive and taking the time to read my stuff, especially the originals!
