Written in response to Pittwitch's 'Seven Deadly Sins' challenge. This one is Envy v Kindness. For Molly and Arthur school romance was all about what happened next; for Lucius and Narcissa it was more about what might have been.

Reviews for The First Love is the Deepest
Well, you've made me feel sorry for the Malfoys, and that is a feat unto itself. I loved this story, and I think it was best summed up by Severus who, while others are thinking how dare the Weasleys show up in their cheap clothing and hairdos, realizes that the Weasleys have lowered their standards to come to a Malfoy party. Brilliant and sad tale.
Oh, no. Up until now I have just been having a good laugh at everyone's expense. Okay, I am still laughing at Severus', but poor Narcissa. She doesn't belong with Arthur because she doesn't love him, but she has had a taste of what a good man is like, and now she is stuck with a snooty Malfoy. Sigh.
I again love the parallels between the two situations. How both girls assumed they were meeting who they wanted (does no one sign their name to notes, LOL?), and then really saw these men for the first time, even though their hearts were elsewhere. And both gracious of flowers, which they had not previously received. It should be quite easy for the girls to just switch men, right? :)
This just gets more and more amusing. I love that more than one person thinks that Lucius would use the term nymph devine. And the parallels between the two, how each girls tries to get their guy by asking for homework help, and each letter is sent tied with a ribbon from one of the girls friends. And Bella assumes (correctly) that Severus had to write the note for Lucius. Very funny.
Okay, I am a little late in getting to this one. Hooray for the random story button!
I love the start of this, with men wanting those who we know they won't end up with, and also would be entirely incompatible with. Ah, young love ...
Oh things are going to get very interesting tomorrow night. Good chapter.

The whole Severus/Alice thing is fantastic. What was that "experiment" with the red cord, anyway? I have to wonder if it crosses his mind whenever he sees her dunderhead son in Potions class. Meanwhile, poor Arthur and Lucius, saying exactly the right thing, but in a way that the girl assumes it's the other boy!

Thanks, Rose. Yes, it's all going to become a little complicated, as those things do. Thanks, as always, for your support. Scar.
An enjoyable beginning, can't wait for more. I love that both Lucius and Arthur were originally enamoured of each others wives, could explain the animosity between them in CoS.

Thanks for that,

Ah, young love, when things like actual compatability are the last things to consider. This is a wonderful setup.

Thanks so much, Pottermania. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for dropping by. Scaranda
That's quite a fable. Nothing either Malfoy can do will ever truly "beat" the Weasleys, either. Those things only go further to prove how awful the Malfoys are.

You do feel a wee bit sorry for them though, don't you, Rose?
Heh, heh, poor Snape, He's been a bit too smug through this whole thing, he deserves a little come-uppance. It means he's incapacitated for any real help, though.I feel worst for Lucius and Narcissa. Arthur secretly liked Molly to start with; he was just intimidated by her, and of course she liked him all along. Lucius really liked Molly, too, and Narcissa is just realizing the value of a man like Arthur. No wonder the Malfoys felt a little spiteful in later years.

Yes, Rose, I always suspected the Malfoys, more than anyone else, were victims of their own circumstances. The fact that they had power and money made them very vulnerable to what was happening around them. Thanks for reading on. Scaranda
Oh, the poor things... everyone so disappointed by the outcome, and the girls' attempts to be gracious flopping like that. Am I right in thinking this is an expanded version of what you posted on Lumos?
Response from scaranda (Author of The First Love is the Deepest)
Yes, it's the same story, Rose. Thanks for reading it again. Scaranda
