The imagery made this story all the more personal. You painted a melancholy picture of his coping.  I hope that he eventually managed to live a happy & interesting life. And I'd be interested to know which story was your favorite.

Response from Keppiehed (Author of Lay of the Old Settler)

Thank you so much for reading. It is especially nice to know that you sought out an old one; most folks don't take the time to read up on stuff that has been filed away in the archives for awhile, especially original work, so I am especially pleased that you made the effort. No one has asked me what my own favorite work is! I would probably have to say "The Artillery of Words", just because for once, I felt like I did the best I could, and that I just really nailed it. I also kind of liked "Primeval"; even though it's poetry and no one really enjoyes that, I still like to write it. As for my fanfic, I like "Princes in Exile" best. Thanks for asking!I really appreciate your review, and thanks so much for reading!

Response from mreid (Reviewer)

I was purposefully looking for original work. I'm trying to contribute more.I asked because sometimes writers have different favorites from those of their readers.  And it gives me an idea of what to read next.  I like poetry.Thanks.-M

Response from Keppiehed (Author of Lay of the Old Settler)

*laughs* I find that it is VERY true; the things that are my personal favorites rarely do well in the polls, and the things I think are not my best work win. It is frustrating sometimes, but I just let go and let readers form their own opinion. And I find out that authors often don't like what I consider my favorties of theirs, so it all works out in the end!

It took him a long time, but he's finally reached the peace of acceptance. The world is open to him now. :)

Response from Keppiehed (Author of Lay of the Old Settler)

This one was my first win at the contest, and I was kind of bummed about it, because I didn't feel it was my best work. Also, it ended on kind of a happy note, and I prefer angst. So, leave it to me to turn my big moment into something that I complained about, LOL! But you know, it's funny ... I have gone on to win several more times, and they are always for pieces that I really don't care for, so I am like "what's going on with you guys and your voting?" I should just relax and write and forget whatever happens afterwards! And I thank you, again, for taking the time to read. You are making me think about adding more of my o-fic here! Thanks so much for the confidence boost. <3

I loved the feel of this piece. The love, the grieving, the hard work and the acceptance.

Response from Keppiehed (Author of Lay of the Old Settler)

Thank you very much! This piece means a lot to me. Not only is it an original, which always feels a little more special, but it was my first contest winner. I am pleased that you took the time to read it. Thanks so much!btw, I love your name! ;)

Response from quaffswinegaily (Reviewer)

Ta! It could just have easily been sloths-on-the-couch, but that didn't quite have the same ring to it.

Response from Keppiehed (Author of Lay of the Old Settler)

OMG! Those are both things that I do TOO!!! ;) What a small world it is. Oh, I misread it for a minute. I thought you were quaffswineDaily. You are probably a lot nicer than I am, in that case. LOL!

Response from quaffswinegaily (Reviewer)

Nah! Much the same. Could easily substitute daily for gaily. I'm multi talented and can do both

Response from Keppiehed (Author of Lay of the Old Settler)

We should hang out. I have a feeling we'd get on swimmingly. Couches, wine ... Only the best for me, that's what I always say!

Response from quaffswinegaily (Reviewer)

And chocolate! Don't let anyone tell you wine doesn't go with chocolate.

Response from Keppiehed (Author of Lay of the Old Settler)

That's it. We are obviously one mind in two bodies! Um, wait. That didn't sound like I meant ...

Response from quaffswinegaily (Reviewer)

Brill! Which part of the mind do I get? Can I have the lifts hand to mouth part, and you can keep the writes dead good stories bit

Response from Keppiehed (Author of Lay of the Old Settler)

No dice, man. Oh, wait. As long as I get to enjoy the wine and chocolate somehow, it's all good. And cheese. There must be cheese with wine. And after all that wine, any of my stories will seem epic.

Response from quaffswinegaily (Reviewer)

You'll just have to get someone to hand feed you. Deal?

Response from Keppiehed (Author of Lay of the Old Settler)

Yeah, that's the life for me! Seems like we've got ourselves a deal! I think we'll get along just fine.

Nice...

What a wonderful tale, and told so well. You did a fine job with this one.

Good work!

Author's Response: Oh, thank you! You always have the nicest compliments! I struggled with this one, but it turned out to be a winner after all. Just goes to show you that the author's favorite is not always a crowd pleaser, and vice versa. I'm glad to hear that you saw some worth in it, though. *hugs you*

What a sad little tale.  But then, he seems like he has made peace with her death, as much as a person can anyway.  Maybe it would be better for him to move away and get on with his life, but his home seems to be as much a part of him as she was.  And he feels her presense everywhere.  If he chooses to let that cause him comfort rather than distress, then I think he will be ok.  Congrats on the win, by the way!

Response from Keppiehed (Author of Lay of the Old Settler)

Oh, thanks for reading this! I know the original pieces are boring, so I appreciate that you took the time and made the effort to wade through it! And thanks for the congrtas on the win; I was super happy!

It's very sad. I wish he could find someone else but he seems to want to stay that way.

Response from Keppiehed (Author of Lay of the Old Settler)

Oooh! Thanks so much for reading this! I don't get a lot of new readers to my original work, so I appreciate that you took a chance on it, even though it isn't as much fun as HP. I am very pleased. Thanks so much! *beams*
