Reviews for A Place of Sorrow
Very powerful, effective capturing of a realisation and turning point in his/their lives. Excellent description and dynamics.

Thank you very much! I have to give credit to my beta on this, who helped me get past some stumbling blocks and really grow as a writer with this piece. I thank you for giving it your time. It isn't often someone seeks out an older work, especially an original piece. Thank you so much fr your review!
I could feel the boy's emotions as he spoke thrpugh the story. Another good one, Kep. :)

Thanks you again, Sunny! I feel like I turned a corner with this one, with help from my beta. I am so pleased that you are seeking out my o-fic. Thanks so much!
Oh my. The unwanted children (wanted, maybe, but wanted away as well) just break your heart. We have a couple in my neighborhood, only younger, and you can only hope they'll end up alright. Your two though, they're rather more worrying... (ours may not have parents, but they have something) Really don't know what to say to this, except that it's interesting, seems realistic, but I hope it isn't.

I like to write stories that connect us through a sense of emotion. Even if you have never personally been in that situation, you can relate to the emotions that the characters are experiencing. In this case, the theme was largely growing up and being on the thresh hold of maturity. It can be so harrowing. The impetus for these characters was something a little more sinister than most of us (hopefully) must endure, but I still think the feelings are recognizable and ring true in a universal way.I thank you for being willing to tackle a tough read with an open mind! It makes me feel good to know that you are willing to read my work, even if it is not easy sometimes. Thanks for that, and for sending your thoughts!
Wow... this was great! I think this is beautifully written, but I am kind of at a loss as to why. I feel like I ought to back up that statement, but I can't actually articulate anything. It's like there aren't a lot of words to this story, but you've described things so well, the imagery and the emotions, and said so much without really saying too much.I look at the mother and think what a horrid person she is. Her kids should not become second rate citizens just because the man of the week is around. And obvously Ben is old enough to understand exactly what goes on when they are given the boot, but also not old enough to make sense of it all. No wonder he is confused. Although we don't really get his age, it can be assumed he is in that awkward period between boy and man, and his momma is not setting a very good example. But then I look at it from another angle and think of how I don't really know anything about her. How can I judge her actions without knowing her story?I find myself already fond of the children, and I hardly know anything about them either, so well done on sucking me in. I am glad that the story ended where it did. To have continued on would not have felt right, in my opinion. And while I am bothered by what undoubtedly happens in the "next chapter", I can't seem to form any negative feelings toward Ben. I'm pretty sure this review has become longer than the story, and yet I'm not sure I've made any coherent thoughts. So sorry if this review was just a random ramble, but know that I really liked it a lot. Incidentally, I wanted to find something bad to say about this story, just because you'll let me, but I've got nothing :)

Hehehe... *is gleeful* I'm glad that I managed to do it right! I know that this is a tricky subject, and it is just inviting a whole slew of controversy with the big emotion it has the potential to inspire. The fact that you liked it makes me feel great! I really enjoy showing the flaws in human nature, but just showing it, not judging it, and allowing the reader to make of it what they will. To know that I put down something that made you want to dislike them but couldn't (which is, admittedly, kind of frustrating!) makes me really have a YES! moment, because to me, that means it was realistic. I think most people are so varied and they all have a reason for doing what they do and being they way they are. A reason they can justify, even if no one else in the whole world can see it. So I like to write about those little niches and seeing what comes of it, even if it isn't pretty. So I'm glad that you took the time to read it, even if it isn't fun lke the HP stuff, and I thank you for your very thorough review... you know how much those mean to me!
