Chapter 1 of 1
kyriaofdelphiKarkaroff discovers he still has worth to one person.
ReviewedValentine’s Day in 1982.
The Wizengamot had released Karkaroff. His wife had taken rooms at the Three Broomsticks to welcome her husband back from his stay in Azkaban. She wanted their reunion to signal a new direction for his life.
The Auror who delivered him to the Three Broomsticks murmured a warning, “Don’t you go getting back in trouble again, Karkaroff. I’ll be looking for you.”
Igor’s words were conciliatory. “You don’t have to warn me, Moody. I don’t want anything to do with my former comrades. I just want to see my wife and go home.”
Anastasia was waiting for him when he climbed the stairs to their rooms. She wept at the sight of him, silently rejoicing that he hadn’t been killed. She quickly ran him a bath and ordered food for the two of them.
While he was bathing, she adjusted the decor of the room to match their home back in Kiev: black and red velvet curtains and bed coverings, white satin sheets, heavy, dark wood chairs and bed frame. She changed her nightgown to the white satin and silk one he had bought for her when they married.
The robe she took in to him was the finest black velvet trimmed in red piping. The food arrived just before he emerged from the bathroom. She set the dishes out and conjured a rose. One single rose, a Dragon Rose, to mark their reunion.
“Tasia, what is this? Why have you done this?” he asked.
“Because you are my husband, Igor, the man I love above all else. We will move forward from this. You will rise above the madman’s debacle,” she said passionately.
“Tasia, I will never be free of this. It is not a Muggle snake tattoo. It is the mark of the Dark Lord. I turned other followers in to save myself. They will never forget or forgive. I am nothing now. You must leave me and go on with your life,” he cried.
“I will never leave you. You are my life, Igor Andreyevitch Karkaroff. We will survive this, together,” she said.
When he started to turn away from her, she threw herself at him, wrapping her arms around him and kissing him passionately.
He found he could not stand against her determination to reconcile; so he lifted and carried her to the bed, finding the solace he sought in making love to her.

I am so glad Igor has someone to whom he may return that has so much love fo him and faith in him. And he is redeemed with this warmth and his new life. And he goes on to have such a positive influence on so many!
Wow. That was angsty but really very touching.
Response from kyriaofdelphi (Author of Karkaroff's Redemption)
What can I say? Slavic male angst gets a bit overboard. There just aren't enough Karkaroff stories. I always wondered how he got from Azkaban to Durmstrang, so I tried to fill in some of the blanks. Thanks for reading and reviewing.
Aw, poor Igor. :)
Response from kyriaofdelphi (Author of Karkaroff's Redemption)
Thanks for reading & reviewing. I think she saved him. How else did he go from a broken Death Eater to Headmaster at Durmstrang? Something had to be a motivating force. Why not a strong wife?
Men are nothing compaered to a determined wife. I wonder if Voldy would done half of it with a bossy wife who make him wash the toilet?
Response from kyriaofdelphi (Author of Karkaroff's Redemption)
Thanks for reading and reviewing. I don't think Voldy was much interested in women. He probably would have AK'ed a wife the first time she nagged him. Karkaroff, however, loved his wife enough to try to send her away. When she wouldn't go, he let her lead him out of the darkness back into the light.
Wow, what a powerfully written little story. Not to mention a very creative use of my prompt. I've not seen much written about Karkaroff at all.Well done!
Response from kyriaofdelphi (Author of Karkaroff's Redemption)
Thanks for reading and reviewing. This had been a plot bunny that went nowhere as part of a backstory on Karkaroff. I had had the wife meeting him in Russia and lots more wrong. You prompt gave me the pieces to make it all work. The snake tattoo was what set off light bulbs in my brain.I always try for the more unusual use of a prompt. Glad you liked it.
And Igor goes on to become Headmaster of Durmstrang. What a wonderful beginning you have given him - exactly what he needs for his new life, and Anastasia's faith in him surely helps him also. Thank you.
Response from kyriaofdelphi (Author of Karkaroff's Redemption)
Thank you for reading & reviewing. Igor was a puzzle for me. I knew Russian men and their tendency for fatalistic angst. But how did he go from being a broken man to Headmaster at Durmstrang? A strong woman was the answer. Glad you liked it.
Very good, nice to see characters I'm not to familiar with.
Response from kyriaofdelphi (Author of Karkaroff's Redemption)
Thank you for reading & reviewing. Karkaroff always intrigued me. There had to be a reason he went from being a turn-coat DE to Headmaster of the only pure-blood school, so I wrote it.
Lovely. Now I want to know what happened to her after Voldemort came back.
Response from kyriaofdelphi (Author of Karkaroff's Redemption)
She followed him on the run and died with him. She wouldn't leave him. Thanks for reading and reviewing.
