This was a very sad tale for both the parts of Remus and Pentunia. Very sad that they should end up liking each other, finding companionship in each other, only to have her turn so retchedly against him because of his difference---the very thing that had, unknowingly to her, brought them together in the first place.

It's amazing that you could weave this story into canon so believably and actually have me feeling sympathy for Petunia--I would have thought that impossible.

This implies that Petunia is a squib.  Perhaps her and Lily's parents were squibs (Hence their joy when lily got a Hogwarts letter " We have a witch in the family.  Isn't it wonderful!)    A good possible explanation for Petunia's hatred of her sister.  Although I doubt there's much chance something similar could come out in canon.  Well-written.
