I always feel extremely strange when I'm writing these things, having never really been all that good at talking about myself. In any case, here are the basics: I'm a 41-year-old Canadian who started reading the Harry Potter books about twenty years (!) ago just to see what all the fuss was about. I wrote my first fanfic about a year later, and I've been semi-active in the fandom ever since. I am very musical; I play the bagpipes, I've played the violin since I was about nine years old and I sing with two choirs (a community choir I've been singing with since 1997 and a church choir I've been singing with since late 2008). Writing is also one of my many obsessions, and (much to my relief) the monstrous case of writer's block which grabbed me for a couple of years seems to be gradually letting go. Even so, should I submit any chaptered fics here, it's reasonable to assume that the updates will be pretty far apart even if they're actually finished before I start posting. It's not intentional; I'm just, at times, a little forgetful.

I think you portrayed her very well.

Thank you.
Very well written. I imagine it would have been exactly this way.

Thanks.
WOW!! This is exactly how I picture Petunia. A flicker of conscience and emotion made her take little Harry in instead of a howler sent by Dumbledore is more realistic I find.

Thanks for your review. I figure that even Petunia isn't completely heartless, even if her actions towards Harry after his "adoption" are despicable at best.
I can so see this happening, her thoughts are so in character and realistic. As much as Petunia resented and hated her sister, I'm sure deep down she loved her. Part of her treatment of Harry could have been those eyes, eyes that reminded her everyday about her sister. His expressions a mirror of Lily. Well, done, dear. I enjoyed this very much.

Thank you.
This turned out to be a very nice little story. I think you may be right - she made the conscious decision. And then probably beat herself up ever day for the next sixteen years for it. Truffles! Sara

Thanks. I think you're right about Petunia; it would be just like her to regret one of her few moments of almost-generosity to her nephew.
I can see Petunia having this moment - and just as you described, only having it briefly. I think you've nailed the canon characterization of Petunia Dursley very well. When we wonder what made her decide to take Harry in, it really only makes sense that her internal thoughts followed just as you described. Thank you for bringing this "deleted scene" to life. :)

Getting into Petunia's mind was interesting, to say the least. When I was brushing up on her appearances in canon, I found that the key that finally let me in came from Deathly Hallows. After Harry says "goodbye" to her, it seems like she's about to say something; she seems quite upset, but in the end she just forces herself to leave. I wondered if it might be something to do with Lily—and suddenly, I knew what to write. Thanks for reviewing.
Very believable. :)

I was hoping it would be. Thanks.
:( brought a tear to my eye

I'm not sure whether to say "Thank you!" or "Er, sorry about that". Either way, thanks for reviewing.

Say thankyou. It means it touched me and was a brilliant piece of writing. :)
Oh, how well you've captured Petunia here! I can totally imagine her reaction to be exactly this!

I could see this. Well done!

Thanks—it was a bit frustrating to write, but still a lot of fun.
