SSHG Exchange 2008 submission. A Portkey blunder leaves Severus and Hermione stranded in America, doomed to a cross-country road trip with only each other for company. They’re obviously perfect for each other, but can they refrain from killing each other first?

*holds up hand* I do solemnly swear that I will never leave a story unfinished.
After so many years writing, nothing drives me quite so crazy as leaving myself (not to mention my readers! ) hanging. So I will never post anything without the guaranteed promise to finish it.
I'm a globe-trotting recent grad who currently makes her home in San Francisco, where you have to wear a coat all summer long. I've been writing for over eight years, including fanfic, original fic, poetry, and research dissertations. I've just recently finished my first multichapter Harry Potter fic (SS/HG). It's called "Memento Amori" and is perhaps the favorite of my literary offspring.
I am also the proud sire of two one-shots, "More Than a Dream" and "Serpensortia" - which took runner-up in the Potter Place Summer '07 Prompt Challenge.

The beggars predicament is priceless.
This is shaping up to be a funny story and a great read. I look forward to more.
This is an absolute gem! What a trip! This is one journey I really don't want to end; you write an incredibly entertaining tale! :-)
wow. :)
so why were they so lucky at the gambling??
Very cool chapter, I'm looking forward to more!!
THE CROWBAR LINE IS PRICELESS. anyway.
Better and better! But....only ONE more chapter? Wah!--I am enjoying this so much, I hate to see it end! I love how Hermione's magic has healed (and de-aged) Severus. Love Severus' eternal snarkiness (very appropriately done). Love Hermione's "Griffindor-ness".
Looking forward to more (even though I don't want to see this road-trip end! Maybe a sequel---I know, the honeymoon cruise?)
This is an entertaining story. I like how you are revealing little bits of their shared history as you go.
Great road trip story. Where will you take us next?
this is great, lol... i am really enjoying this so far. what is hermione up to and what are these scars on snape's face that she keeps referring to? i guess we'll find out soon enough.
rofl! snape is hilarious! and i love the ending...
“No,” she replied. “But is that a crowbar in your pocket, sir, or are you just happy to see me?”
priceless!
Wow, this is hilarious! I especially liked: "Aren’t Portkeys transformed from pieces of junk under the assumption that Muggles won’t pick them up? Especially not beggars who are rabid and… and literate Man U fans!” and “Well,” the beggar said to himself, perusing the white sand beaches and sparkling blue water. “This is certainly an improvement.” Very good, so far! I'm bookmarking it--I can't wait to see what happens next! Thanks for sharing! -CC
I loved the poker game. And Snape's total embarassment was priceless. I'm looking forward to more chapters.
I'm dead curious what she's up to, while Snape's asleep.
Very nice start on a story!! I like it very much so far!
This is extremely funny and amusing - I love it!
Simply can't wait for more now ... ! :-)
I have always warned young folk not to marry someone untill they have taken a road trip together. and if nothing untoward happens on the trip, take another one, and cause something to happen.
(Even if you have to pretend that you have locked the keys in the car.) The way your prospective partner reacts to life's minor emergencies is a good indicator of whether he is a good choice for a mate.
This is a charming tale with such witty lines. It looks to be a great deal of fun;I am looking forward to more. Thanks for sharing it with us.
What do you mean, there aren't any more chapters? *g* I love it. Snape's language is great. I'm looking forward to their misadventures in the US. Hope to see more quickly! *cough cough*
More, more, more, more, MORE!!! I've always imagined how wonderful it would be to get Severus Snape trapped inside a car I'm driving, for some reason needing transport and only able to obtain it via a muggle automobile---a captive audience for my conversation, my choice of radio programs or music, and at the mercy of my driving skills! Now I can enjoy that vicariously through Hermione---perfect! PLEASE update soon!
Only one thing---why cannot Hermione collect-call her parents and have them wire her muggle funds with which to get home? Just a thought....or--is that how they got the funds to rent a car in the first place?
Looking forward to more! :-)
