In the wake of her sister’s Supreme Betrayal of All Things Pure-blooded, sixteen-year-old Narcissa is left on her own to deal with their parents. Keeping an eye on them is no easy job, and Bella, having married well—meaning rich—is no help at all. Then one evening at a fundraiser dinner, Abraxas Malfoy goes to great lengths to speak to Narcissa about her own recent misbehaviour, and things turn out different—and far better—than Narcissa ever dared to imagine.

They are a clever pair, manipulating their parents like that, they were made for each other.

Indeed they were. Thanks! :)
Brilliant - wonderful family dynamics and revelations; Narcissa's parents are so very clear, so precise. Breathless about the intriguing scene with Abraxas, as well as Lucius' letter and what 'he had said' to her before - simple, direct, powerful!

Thank you so much for this very generous review! You've captured all the things I was hoping to convey.
I liked reading this- how the Malfoys could appreciate Narcissa for the clever girl she is, and how Andromeda's leaving was seen by her sister less of a casting-out and more of an abandoment. If I'd been left with those people, I'd want to be taken along too! And when Lucius comes along, all suave and handsome and 'nouveau riche' -the horror! the rebellion!- it's easy to see how she fell for him.

Thank you! Your review hit on a couple of things that, in writing this piece, I really had fun with: subverting some stereotypes about pureblood families. I love these families for the new interpretations of canon they offer. I really appreciate reading your thoughts. :)
I do like this story - it's so well-written, and your characters are very credible. It's very typical that Luciuswould be a jump ahead of his plotting parent, and asfor Narcissa - how delightful to discover that she has adefinite personality apart from just being a Death Eaterwife.

Thanks so much for your very generous review! Yes, Lucius is a clever one. He knows the best way to get what you want is not necessarily to just take it, but to persuade the right people that it's in their best interest to give it to you. And Narcissa, well--let's just say she's an equal match for him. ;)
This was a delightful read! I adore Narcissa's voice in this piece -- restrained and proper but brimming with rebellion and hope. I'm eagerly anticipating your next chapter.

Thanks so much for your kind words! Rebellion seems to be an inborn trait in the Black family, but there's more than one way to go about it, isn't there? I'm very happy you liked Narcissa's voice here.
Great work!

Thanks for reviewing! I'm glad you liked it.
Brilliant ending. I missed the word 'familiar' the first time I read the end, but when I saw it, it made everything click together in an awesome way. Great twist! It makes me very curious. When I read the letter, I caught my breath and read it again. Seems like they've already started their romance.

Thanks so much for your review! Lucius/Narcissa is my OTP and I wanted to write about how they got together, but the typical arranged marriage scenario didn't work for me. So I twisted it. Nice to hear it worked for you!
