Reviews for The Paths We Choose
I love this! Because while they are both somewhat to blame for their friendship falling apart, I always tend to side with Severus. This made me actually have to side with Lily and see where she is coming from.
This was indeed a sad story for both Lily and Severus. Even sadder for Severus as he lost the one true friend he had. My take is that Lily abandoned him. Yes, he made his choice, but then again, with all the persecution around him, plus being surrounded by less-than-sympathetic people, I suspect he made his choices on a defensive basis. But then from Lily's point of view, she defended him despite the company he keeps (and made known very clearly she didn't like his friends) but when he crossed the line, she cut him off. But then again, how else would one react when he was being bullied by his worst enemies and shamed and humiliated in front of the entire school? It's a tough call, and admittedly, I am solidly in the camp of Lily should have examined the situation that caused him to react the way he did and forgave him. I am not much of a Lily fan, to be honest ...As far as your ficlet is concerned - it was very nicely done.

Thanks for the review! To be honest I sort of side with Lily. I think she needed him to change and that was something he wasn't willing to do at the time. Cause honestly where would their future have lead - Snape wasn't ready to give up being a deatheater and since they looked down upon people like her, they would have been affected by it. Oh, I so hope that someday that if JKR ever goes back toi writing Harry Potter again she'll do it through her eyes. I would love to see how their relationship actually was in canon.
Wonderful job, dear. I still don't like Lily and think that she really should have tried to understand why he made the decision he did, but I suppose if she had, the HP series would have turned out differently.

Thanks! XD
It's hard to cope with the consequences of bad choices. But in his defence, he was only a teenager at the time and didn't really know what he was doing. Nicely done.

True, but then she was one too. I like to think that someday she would have forgiven him - especially after what he did for her. Thanks for the review!
A wonerful and sad glimpse into their lives. Great job.

Yep. It's all about the choices we make. :)

It sure is. Hello, where were you last Saturday?
You would think if she had any feelings for him at all as a friend she would at least attempt to help him correct his choices. He seems sincere when he tells her he is sorry. By this time, he is so far into the Dark Lord's grasp he probably doesn't see a way out. This fic brings up so many more questions to ponder about Severus and Lily's relationship. Very lovely answer to the prompt.

I think she is by stating that she can't be friends with him until he leaves the Deatheaters. I always saw Lily as someone who did try to get him to see what he was doing wrong, but Snape was so foolishly stubborn in his own beliefs to see how she viewed them. And it is also true that once he joined the deatheaters it would be hard to get out - but it could have been done. He finally did it when Lily's life was at risk and he went to DD for help. Thanks so much for the thoughful review. XD
Powerful. It explains much more clearly why Lily can't forgive Severus than DH did. JKR's just made you feel sorry for him, but through Lily's POV here, that pity seems unwarrented (or maybe it's the 'shes a bitch' feeling about Lily that feels unwarrented rather than the pity for Severus). You did a very nice job on this.

Yeah, I found that in the "Snape" fandom Lily is not really seen too highly. I think she really did try with him, it indicated that in the books that she had heard that he was calling people like her a mudblood and yet she stayed friends with him until he called her one. So IMO she had to let the friendship go because she would have felt he would just end up hating her in the end because she was a Muggleborn. Thanks for the thoughtful review! XD
Yes, he definitely did choose his own path. No one can answer for that but him. But I really think she abandoned him. Someone who was such a close friend would understand why he said what he did to her. She abandoned him, leaving him to himself and his bad influences. I do think she's the type that wouldn't see that.I liked seeing this from her side. I don't think we get much of that in many stories.

Yeah, people do say things in anger that they don't mean - that is true. Although with Lily she stated to him in the canon that she had heard him calling people like her a mudblood but it wasn't until he called her one that she let him go. I just think that she was afraid that he would just end up hating her in the end for being what she was and that is why she abandoned him - though that is just my opinion on there relationship. Thanks for the thoughtful review! For being a Gryffindor, that girl has no idea what the word loyalty means. Grrrr!!! Don't get me wrong, you wrote a wonderful and heart-breaking little story. But Lily Evans just makes me want to smash things!!/M
