Born: in the glorious year of 1979, when Dio joined Black Sabbath and Peter Pettigrew started passing on information to the Dark Lord
Colours: black, green, silver
Passions: writing, cooking, baking, witchcraft
Obsessions: quite a few, chocolate for one (hi Lupin!), but mainly a certain Potions master and a blond DE.

Interesting perspective. While I agree that Lily should've been more forgiving, it was not up to her to save Severus. In the end we are each responsible for our decisions, and he made a poor one. Yes it's great when someone else can save you but The final responsibility for our choices is ours alone. Lily made a poor choice as a teenager. Severus made a worse one.

Oh, I wrote that one in my "Let's blame Saint Lily for eeeeeverything, shall we"-phase. I'm more understanding nowadays. :-)
Such emotions in such a short story, you really drove home a point that isn't often discussed! What we know of Lily is that she was a popular, kind, talented, beautiful (and in a rare way, green eyes/red hair) witch. So much so that the richest and most popular kid in the school (James Potter) snatched her up when he got the chance and she went with it. I just feel like she's too Mary Sue (too perfect) and her treatment of Severus was not kind in the end. This was definitely one of her flaws that was overlooked, though unfortunately is very common that people outgrow each other. I feel that what happened was the fault of both characters, Lily not sticking by her friend and Snape not taking her seriously sooner and leaving the Death Eaters for the person he loved more than anything.

I agree with you. I, too, think that Lily is portrait as far too perfect in canon. But then again, what can we expect, seeing who we get the information from? From people who only knew the kind side of Lily, i.e. Dumbledore, Black, Lupin, etc.As much as I "dislike" Lily, I admit that she was a good person and a devoted mother. I will, however, not forgive her treatment of Severus. Not that I blame her alone, I bet teenage Snape was a pain to hang out with. But Lily was a Gryffindor, she should have been brave enough to stay by his side.Done ranting ... heheI am very glad you enjoyed my little story enough to leave a little note. It means a lot! /M
Powerful! Isn't it odd that the House apparently prizing loyalty and bravery above all should house the few who never showed such characteristics when needed the most? The sly Slytherin embodied everything that Lily and the Marauders should have represented.Over the years, and after writing a few fanfics, I have grown to be rather cool towards the Marauders and Lily. I shall stop there... I can feel a rant brewing... lolYou portray the scene so well as Snape stood outside the door, waiting for Lily. Quite heartbreaking. Her final words do seem to suggest that it was all cast in the die and any words would have been superfluous, but... Well, you can't help but think.Thank you for writing and posting.

Should you ever feel like ranting about the Marauders or Lily, please do! I'll listen! :-)Thanks for being such a loyal reader.Happy New Year./M
The reviews are interesting, too, as well as the story. Well done! A lot of wallop in a tiny tale. and interesting discussion of blame. I love your response: I don't know if Lily could have saved Severus. But I sure would have liked to see her try.My thoughts exactly. I recall advising my daughter not to take away a person's last chance. I said, "he may never finish school, make anything of himself, but you will never regret that you were NOT the one who took away his last chance."I have to agree that Lily seemed somewhat hard-hearted in the books. Perhaps she had reasons we didn't see. Perhaps this was not the fist time he'd hurt her feelings, and he was hanging around with those future deatheaters. I mean, that IS very servious.

The Mudblood incident was certainly not the first time Severus was 'mean' to Lily. I am sure that his cold, detached manner had hurt her before, even if he didn't mean to hurt her.But I say it again: she could have tried to save him.Glad you liked this little story. It's quite dear to me.Happy Holidays. /M
I liked your short story. Of course, it's not Lily's faught that Snape chose the wrong path. but it probably helped him sleep at night, that he had somebody else to blame.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of The Day He Fell)
You are right, of course, Severus made all his bad choices on his own. But it would have been nice to see that Lily had at least tried.Happy Holidays. /M
Such a few words and yet so meaningful. I don't supppose Lily could have guess the consequences fro her words and her unforgiveness. Dare I say she deserves what she got?
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of The Day He Fell)
Deserved what she got? Outsch, not even I am that cruel ;-)We cannot blame Lily for everything. Severus made his bad choices all on his own. But it would have been nice o see her at least try to save him.Happy Holidays. /M
yes she did! this was beautifully written. thanks so much

Thank you!
Very tragic, and I think very true. Well done.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of The Day He Fell)
*bows* Thank you!
Could she have really saved him? I mean we all make our own choices. And what if it had been Neville instead? He wouldn't have gone to Dumbledore and asked him to protect the Longbottoms. Would he have really gotten out of the deatheaters? Great story!

So little words but so powerful. I've actually realised that it was Lily's fault, but without that fault we would never have known Severus Snape.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of The Day He Fell)
And we do love him, don't we?I guess all isn't Lily's fault. Severus made his bad choices all on his own. But she did have the opportunity to make him change his ways. And in my opinion, she did not take it.Glad you liked.Happy Holidays. /M
Woah... you gave me a bit of the chills. Very well done, love! Sheer poetry, I think. Fantastic.

Very nice so far..... wondering if this fic will fill in those gaps left in canon??? Can't wait!

Hm, hadn't planned to continue this, but one never knows.Glad you liked it.Happy Holidays. /M
Wow, even your short stories are filled with emotion. He's so right, she had let him fall. I've tried to put myself in her place a few times, and I just come up thinking she's not a true friend. She really had the power to turn him away from the dark, but she didn't care enough for him to stand by him when he was falling. She couldn't be bothered trying to help a friend, she just pushed him away because she didn't like his actions.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of The Day He Fell)
Exactly my thinking as well.Glad you liked it.Happy Holidays. /M
She did let him down, so very baddly.
