lmao. I'm an English teacher. This was seriously well done.

Thanks so much for telling me you not only enjoyed this, but understood it! I had used the 'dildo' example for a fic I betaed, and I guess I just ran with it! =^;^=
If grammar was explained like that in books, I would probably have learnt english more quickly
Response from MystressXOXO (Author of There Are, Aren't There)
Oh, exactly! LOL! I'm so happy you liked it!And it's true... uh-oh... If I end up writing a sex-filled book about grammar, I'm going to blame it all on you!

Hehehehehe... I am so deeply amused; this is both funny and hot! W00t! I went to rec it on LJ, so hopefully more slash fans will get to enjoy it now too! :D
Author's Response:
Oh wow! Well, I am beyond pleased that you enjoyed it, but I am absolutely tickled pink that you rec'd it on LJ! You really didn't have to! Thank you so much! *grins*
*sends you cookies*
i liked this. one question: "Draco whimpered his conformation ..." did you mean "conformation" here? "confirmation" seems the more obvious choice, but i wondered if you were trying to make some point by using the other word, and if so, what?
Response from MystressXOXO (Author of There Are, Aren't There)
Thank you for pointing out the obvious typo that was missed. I'm glad you liked it.
Ok, so I'm not a huge fan of slash, but I just had to skim to get the dialogue - adorable, if a bit squicky (for me). Love the arguement though, as well as Draco's eventual *cough* acquiesence.

Oh, you didn't have to review this, love. Thank you for reading what you could! That was very sweet... and brave of you! I appreciate it, MJ.
this was super cute, but i have to be a little pedantic, since Draco is as well--when he says, "You said it wrong..." He should actually use an adverb, not an adjective. I think this plot bunny loses it's edge with a little error like that--otherwise it was perfect!BRAVA

Thank you so much for your honest review. I do appreciate it. You meant using a word like 'incorrectly' or 'inaccurately' instead of 'wrong', right? Actually, 'wrong' is very much an adverb in this sentence. 'Wrong' doesn't modify the noun 'you', so it's not an adjective. 'Wrong' is being used to modify how 'Harry said it', so it's an adverb. 'Wrong' can be used as a noun, verb, adjective, and adverb, so I can understand how anyone could misread it. One little trick I've learned is that most adverbs will replace another adverb, but not another adjective. You said the wrong answer. The way you said it is wrong.Replace the adjective 'wrong' with the adverb 'incorrectly'. You can't because only the adjective 'incorrect' would work. You said it wrong. You guessed wrong.'Incorrectly' can now be substituted because 'wrong' is also an adverb in these examples. I agree with you that the sentence I used is informal and could've been written differently, but the grammar within it is correct.Thank you again, and I apologize for the lengthy response. sapphire_pheonix's response: Touche! but riddle me this, since I find grammarians to be rare and delightful, isn't the use of the verb 'say' different from from 'guess' or other verbs? It's not that he mispronounced the words he used, but that, in draco's opinion, his sentence was structured incorrectly?
Response from MystressXOXO (Author of There Are, Aren't There)
Lol! And I love to be challenged! You are correct that Draco was correcting the way Harry had structured the sentence that he said. I believe I understand what you're basically asking here, so you'll have to bear with me.The actual use of the verbs doesn't differ in this context--either you 'say' or you 'guess'--but knowing what is 'wrong', or what is different, in a sentence all depends on what is being said that is."You said it wrong" is open-ended if you didn't know exactly what 'it' is, but regardless, 'it' is what 'you said'. In this sentence, 'you' is the subject and 'said' is the verb. Let's use 'incorrectly' instead of 'wrong'.Incorrectly, you said it.You incorrectly said it.You said it incorrectly.Either way you slice it, "you said it", and we just have to know how "you said it". What you're saying is if Draco said, "You said (or quessed) the structure of the sentence wrong," then the verb would be different. Not in this sentence, no, because of the subject. However..."The structure of the sentence that you said is wrong." YES, because now "the structure" (of the sentence) (that you said) "is wrong". Now we know exactly what subject the verb says is incorrect. Long story short, it's all about the subject-verb agreement, but I don't like to use the technical jargon unless I have to! The sentence I used could be rewritten many different ways, and your questions prove that. Also, if I didn't even come close to answering your question, please disregard! LOL! sapphire_pheonix's response: It boils down to a syle thing, I guess. I was unaware that wrong was an adverb, so I learned something along the way--And this ends the most in depth discussion of grammar in a fanfic ever.
Response from MystressXOXO (Author of There Are, Aren't There)
Aww, I wanted to end it! (LOL!) I'm glad you easily learned something I had to learn through trial and error. Luckily, I've been told that I'm good at explaining things! Yay, grammar! *bangs head on desk* ... *repeatedly*sapphire_pheonix's response: well--how about --YOU WERE RIGHT; I WAS WRONG!-- as a consolation prize?
Response from MystressXOXO (Author of There Are, Aren't There)
Hey, as long as one less person out there tells someone else that they're 'wrong' about grammar and to 'look it up', I am truly happy. You were right to say I was wrong... and thankfully our brains are still intact after the results! Lol!
I am what they call a "language professional", but I have never seen a more unique approach to a grammatical problem before ;-)
Response from MystressXOXO (Author of There Are, Aren't There)
Well, thank you very much, my dear! *bows* When I was beta-ing a fic, I had used "There are three dildos on the bed" as an example of the 'there-construction', and my Muse decided to one-up me on it. xP I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and thank you again for telling me so!
Very nice! There are many ways to read this, there are many ways to say it was hot, there is only one word left, brava!
Response from MystressXOXO (Author of There Are, Aren't There)
LOL!! Thank you!! Ha ha! There are, aren't there? I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Hooray! Grammar becomes sexy- I knew my day would come eventually. (Nerds of the world unite! Ours is a horn-rimmed, smutty world)

LOL! *throws confetti* Whoo! I am glad you enjoyed it! (This really made me smile!) =^;^=
