I was very sad the day this poem was born, thinking about loved ones who have passed from this earthly plain of existence.

my catalyst into the world of hp fanfic was the ignominious death of severus snape by snakebite in dh. grrrrr. he deserved better, and i set off on a mission to find it! i appreciate and admire the vast and limitless creativity of all of the wonderful writers on this site and in this fandom.
accordingly, for me it's mostly about snape: ss/le, ss/hg, ss/rl are my favorite ships. i especially like happy endings for those who did not get them at the hands of jkr.

Good points, all, and it's funny, but I've found myself thinking along these same lines many times. You've put all those thoughts and ponderings together nicely.

thank so much for this review. it's always exciting when i get a review for the poetry. :) i think the struggle to find meaning in grief and loss is probably one of the primary human needs of the species, once we get past the basics.
Incredible ending! I read this a while ago, and I was just so stunned by the ending that I never actually left a review. I agree that it's a very sad fact that pain gives us so much to later be glad of, and in turn, makes us stronger--not the easiest way, but things are rarely easy. The way you questioned the reader conjured up so much more, and it was an elegant way of getting the reader more intimately involved with the poem.I found the words suited the concepts amazingly well. (I should say that I know so little about poetry and the critique of it that I may ramble a bit here... don't know how to say what I mean... bear with me... lol). When discussing the pain, the words and terms were harsh and direct as only pain can be. Later, the poem became more thoughtful and the phrases, correspondingly, were more open and flowing--I suspect that that is something that I should learn to develop, so thanks for the subtle lesson on that part of poetry :DI was completely lost in this poem; it made me think deeply on what had been suffered by the person in the poem, and it made me think of my own trials. I think that the ending also imparted some strength in me as I read the sanguine and optimistic closing stanza--it all serves a purpose and if we allow it to, then we can better ourselves from it. I think that you're right--pain is a catalyst and a chisel... it spurs us on and chips away at us.Thank you for sharing this amazing insight into why we should love and risk.

wow! thank you so much for this wonderful, thoughtful review. and you expressed yourself just fine. i'm glad you appreciated the way i used the language to echo or intensify the feelings. that was something i did consciously, so i'm pleased that you noticed and thought it worked. :D
i'm also glad you liked the ending. it's interesting because that ending came after i had thoroughly worked through all of the intense emotional content of the rest of the poem, kind of like how it describes it. meaning i had to go through this intense process with all the other stuff to get to that moment of rebirth. (i hope i explained that clearly!)
again, thanks so much for reading and reviewing! and it's also really nice to have confirmation that just because my poem hasn't gotten any feedback, that doesn't mean that people aren't getting something out of it when they read it. because that's what i keep repeating to myself over and over. : )

The ending coming out of all the chaos makes perfect sense... the writing was a catharsis! Don't thank me for reviewing, it was my pleasure. I doubt that anyone can read anything fully without it impacting upon them in some way... but I can relate to your mantra... lol!I hope to read your other poems a bit later on, and I'll be sure to review ;)... lolThank you.
