I am a slytherin in hufflepuff clothing.
I read therefore I am.
I write therefore I amuse myself.
Reviews for A Chance Earned
Interesting, very interesting. I really liked it. I especially liked the notes you inserted into the chapters, however, it might have been easier to read in a slightly different font. Still a lovely story.~Jen
Here's what I liked:1. Your little nods to canon, i.e. Blaise's "gender identity issues" and Hermione's favorite book NOT actually being Hogwarts: A History.2. Your writing was sweet and had good rhythm.3. Your Draco is irresistable, just as he said. Here's what I didn't care for as much:1. It was too open for me. I felt like you could have fleshed this out quite a bit more. I'd have loved to see more actual interraction between Draco and Hermione other than just through the scrolls.2. I hate to be the lone dissenter here, but I didn't like the scrolls! Maybe if you'd used them less and given the story in text more... Used as often as they were, I thought they felt a little gimmicky.BUT, that being said, I still did enjoy this story. In fact, I thought it was cute enough that I'd love to see a retelling of this same fic withOUT the scrolls - with more time and energy spent on their interactions. :) I hope that my review was not discouraging in any way. I definitely think you have an excellent talent, and I did like this. I just think that with the skill you have, you could do so much moooooooore with it. ;)

I love your review. And thank you very much for taking the time write such a thorough one.I did the scrolls because html coding doesn't afford very many formatting choices (it looked very boring to my eyes); I was worried about it coming off gimmicky, but in the end, the choice in spacing and writing styles won out.I can't promise you I'll flesh A Chance Earned out, but I have learned never to say never. Fear not, I am in no way discouraged. I must admit, I write for myself first, and hope that other people like it second. Growth as a writer is important to me too, and I do intend to do more with it.Again, thank you for your thoughtful (and appreciated) review.

That was sweet. I wouldn't mind seeing a follow-up either ;)

OMG That was soooo clever with the scrolls! How did you do that? I didn't even KNOW you could do something like that here!! I loved it!And my favorite line: Not Hogwarts: A History as previously gathered intelligance had suggustedbwhahahahahah

Thank you!Not that hard to do, surprisingly. Though I was worried it was too graphic heavy. I googled images for the scroll, saved as a jpeg, used MS paint to layer on the text (wish paint let you individually italiac or underline words), uploaded images to photobucket and then used the img src html tag. Easy! (HA) That line is very Slytherin, isn't it?Glad you liked it!

What a delightful concept! Letters as actual letters in two different handwritings and on actual parchment scrolls. This was a lovely little story made all the more enchanting by the letter inserts. Thank you for a sweet start to my afternoon!

You are welcome! I'm so glad you noticed the different handwriting (I'm so detail-obsessed).

straightfwd.
Very sweet, and loved the scrolls.
Excellent! I love the format, the scrolls are so visually appealing and really draw in the reader. I liked the way the couple came together, also, very sweet--and had to laugh at Blaise's "gender confusion" issues! :DGreat job!

Ok, you get a reviewing medal! You caught my little canon-tweak. (gender confusion).Thank you for making my day brighter!

I'm sorry, but I really, really want to know how on earth harry and pansy got together.
I really like the effect of the letters. cool idea!
though I have to say the story was resolved a little too neatly and quickly for my tastes. but it's yours, not mine.

If that was the end, I'd agree with you totally, to the tune of WTF? But I tried to leave it as open as possible. She's only giving him a chance. He's earned at least that much. The rest is up to your imagination and the slight possiblity of a sequel (because I've learned to never say never).:-)
