Seventh-year student Hermione Granger decides to marry the one eligible wizard who did not ask for her--the horrid but powerful Severus Snape. All is not sweetness and light. Be careful what you ask for. Or, as has been said by many a wise witch, "Marry in haste; repent in leisure." MLC

Care of Magical Creatures recently received two awards on "Secrets of the Dark Vaults," a Russian fanfic site. Best NC-17 and Best Maxi Translation. The Nine-Year Plan was awarded Best Mini-Fic! I'm delighted to be in translation and to please the readers in Russia!

With the completion of Care of Magical Creatures my fanfic output is going to slow way down, but if you want to be sure to know when new fics post, please follow me on twitter. I don't tweet much, but I'll surely tweet that kind of thing.
About Mia
I came to the world of Harry Potter relatively early, after first resisting it because it just seemed too trendy. But when the first book came out in paperback in the US I picked it up at the airport when I was about to catch a flight, and two chapters in knew I would be ordering the original from amazon.co.uk in hardcover as soon as I landed.
I came to fanfic late, waiting until after I'd read DH. That means I've been totally obsessed with the fanfic world of Harry Potter, and most specifically the SS/HG ship, since August of '07.
I'm helplessly and hopelessly hooked.

If you were playing Volleyball, this chapter would be a Spike. Golf, a Hole in One.Baseball's Grand Slam.A hit. A very palpable hit.....
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Is there any way I could burn the calories I would have burned doing all those things? I think I ate my way through the writing of this chapter.Thank you so much!
F****k!!!! thats all I can think after I read this chapter... Imsorry but it sounds like the dark lord is going to win!!!! and Gasp! at this moment I hope he does, I think the best tyrants give to they followers what they truly want and so they have something tangible after the battle and being good just for being good no matter your heart it's not easy and maybe not advisable. Poor severus I hope they found Hermione soon and I have a badfeeling that she may now want to join the dark!!! or die figthing besaides severus! I think that that may happen! she can't figth against him he's her soul!!!By the way I don review as shoul but I love your story I even opened a account here to read it ( Im not a pacient person)
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Your review just warms me so much I can hardly express it. Thank you for even opening an account so that you can read and review here. It means so much to me.
Intricate and very powerful chapter. I really don't review this story enough, but I eagerly anticipate and read each new chapter.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much! I'm glad you're still finding my story worth reading!
Wow. Just... wow.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yeah. I know.
Okay, so like it's been awhile since I've read and reviewed - yeah, to be honest, it's been 20 something chapters since I've read your story and I played catch up today.Damn. *shakes head*So she should have trusted her own research - soulmates, true soulmates and now they are both damaged and at the Dark Lord's mercy.*bows to your ingenuity*Albus may be in the general's position, however, the most effective leaders remember that their chess pieces are still human beings at the end of it all and treat them with the respect due a thinking, loving being.Lots of meta in the last few chapters. Definite food for thought. Trying to see where Luna fits in this latest move of Hermione's. Wondering how you didn't go mad trying to get this last chapter just right. I'm just sitting here in awe.Wishing you happy writing my dear. *waves*
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I pretty much did go mad in this last chapter, but darling GinnyW kept my head above water (and flames at my feet). Thank you for catching up and for reviewing! I can't tell you how much I appreciate the reviews.
OMG Mia! you've ripped my heart out with this chapter. You've had me crying my eyes out for both Severus and Hermione. And oh god what has he done drinking that wine, and will Hermione be found, or ...Mia there are more questions than answers with this chapter and I still hope, long, wish for a happy ever after. However, you leave me fearful for both Severus and Hermione... but maybe what is most astounding about this chapter is that I hate, yes I know its a strong word, you Dumbledore more than I hate JKR's manipulative B****** Dumbledore. Oh and Voldi made my skin crawl.Damn you woman what are you doing to me this chapter hurt more than reading "The Princes Tale" chapter of DH and I still can't read that chapter.Flamming brilliant, even though you've left me a wreck - and if my experience of writing is the norm you've probably left yourself a wreck - I am desperate for answers and hope that you muse is kind and that the next few chapters pour easily from you.Thank you for this roller coaster, In anticipation Sav x
Response from savine_snape (Reviewer)
BTW you definately deserve those Glass pens and Inks once you complete this story X
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh dear, we're both wrecks. Those glass pens are within my view whenever I write at my desk. Thank you for your wonderful, wonderful words. They really do help.
Response from savine_snape (Reviewer)
I just hope that whatever hell and high water our favourite duo have to go through there will be a happy ending for them :)*Hugs* You Rock!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
*hugs* back at ya!
What a chapter - riveting and wow - the ending where her turned to the Dark Lord to make it all better. What is happening to Hermione - she is in bad trouble I fear. I cannot wait for the next chapter - Good work.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much. I'm working on the next chapter. I need to get through this as badly as you do, I'm thinking.
Oh geez.I'm speechless. And I want more. And I want to know more. And they need to find each other, and ... wow. Wow. You have a serious talent for evoking these reactions in me. If I end up needing medical treatment, I'll send you the bill, LOL. First the adrenal glands and now my brain in general; you're taking me apart piece by piece! Of course, I'll forget the whole medical bill thing if you get the next chapter out quickly. ::bats eyelashes::
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh dear, maybe we all need to move to the UK to take advantage of socialised medicine, because I can't pay for our therapy! Thank you for your review. I'm working on the next chapter now.
wow.. that chapter was intense and AWESOME!Nice writing.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you very very much!
Oh my, how very cliffhangered that was. The story is really coming to quite the dramatic bit isn't it?
I do love this fic. Can't wait to read the next chapter.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much. I love writing it, even if it's killing me (and making me gain weight)! I'm working on the next chapter already. Thank you again!
How messed up is it that I hate Dumbledore so much more than I even dislike Voldemort? And he's just plain creepy!About half-way through the chapter I actually yelled "Dumbledore so deserves to die!"Poor Hermione. Poor Severus.Hope you update soon! (Just leaving them like that would be mean...)Looking forward to the next!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I hope you didn't startle anybody! Can you be a general without being a big cold-blooded? I don't know.Thank you so much for your wonderful review!
I was certainly not expecting this turn of events. It is very different from the usual marriage law challenges. That makes it stand out more, in my mind. I hope we don't have to wait so long for the next update.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I hope we don't have to wait as long, too. Because if we have to wait as long, it's because it was as difficult to write, and I honestly hope that doesn't happen!
Thank you for your kind words!
Shoot. My brain's exploded.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yours too? I'm right there with you. LOL!
Response from mutemoon (Reviewer)
That mean you're writing from your stomach then? Or should we find you a healer?
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I believe having an exploded brain is par for the course for writers.
But a healer would be very nice, especially if he's also a potions master....
Damn!! This chapter has, if anything, been the most intense ride yet! I love the stream of consciousness bits and the revelation about the soul magic. You really had me scared during Hermione's second POV section, because I thought for sure Severus was dead. Thankfully not. Albus, however, should be. *growls* Manipulative bastard. I don't doubt for a second that Voldemort's twisting things to his own ends, too, but at least he's supposed to be evil! *hmph* And Severus. That choice is so filled with despair and so filled with hope all at once. Like I said at the outset: damn!!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
JKR created Dumbledore, the manipulative bastard, whether she intended us to interpret him that way or not. Actually, it's one of her more brilliant moves. I'm glad to take advantage of it.
Thank you so very much for your wonderful review.
Response from firefly124 (Reviewer)
She did indeed, and you've run with him beautifully. :-) You're very welcome.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I have to admit that I didn't set out to run with him quite so fast and far. He just took off running by himself. (It's okay for me to blame it on him, isn't it?)
Response from firefly124 (Reviewer)
It's absolutely okay! Believe me, I know how characters can tend to run off and do their own thing. Pesky buggers.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Indeed.
You do know that you're brilliant, don't you?The style of this chapter, the cadence of the words, the single sentence paragraphs, all come together in a way that builds into a tsunami of emotion. A veritable tidal wave of angst to wash over the reader, spilling into the white space between each carefully crafted sentence.Desperation in the search, the sense of loss, and the revelation that these two are truly soul riven. The insight of Voldemort, the son of Darkness, in contrast with the blindness of Dumbledore, the son of Light. You redefine Darkness and Light by blurring all of the lines that are supposed to define each.No wonder you struggled so to write this. Words are easy. Poetry is not.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Your review is like heroin to my veins. I'm just totally staggered.
Thank you.
You just can't imagine how you've made me feel tonight.
Thank you.
I am really, really, desperately hoping, more strongly than I ever imagined, that Albus dies by the end of this story. This story is ridiculous. Amazing. I've never felt as though my own heart were on the line before, but I feel that so strongly here. I feel it might burst.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I'm feeling that heart-on-the-line, heart-bursting thing. I'm kind of amazed and happy that you feel it, too. If you don't mind me saying so. Thank you so very much for telling me. It means so much.
First of all, thank you for the update! I must admit to have had mixed emotions towards whishing for a new update, the previous chapter left me in a sort of limbo:-) There is of course no doubt that I would read the next update, and now that I have, I am glad I think...:-) For me, some of what made your story special (except for brilliant plot and excellent writing) is that Severus and Hermione had each other. Most stories have some variation of breaking them apart, due to misplaced "honour", even more misplaced insecurity etc etc etc, for so bringing them back together in the seccond to last or last chapter. For me, much of the magic in your story was that they had eachother, Dumbledort and Voldidork could scheeme, lie and betray, but Severus and Hermione had eachother, their love and their trust, and that made them strong. Then you took it away, and I felt that the story just turned into something I had read many times before, still brilliantly written, but some of the magic dissepeared. Now, though I am concerned about Severus accepting the dark magic and what that will mean for his and Hermiones future, I do have a glimmer of hope and a bit of faith that you will manage to bring the magic back. That you had some intention and plan, other than the before mentioned cliche reasons for breaking them apart, and that we soon will see that what you did was necessary for the progress in the story, Do update again soon!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
You know how much I adore you, don't you?
Hang tight, keep the hope and faith.
I'll update asap (which means when the next chapter is finished, of course).
So glad to see another chapter of one of my favorite WIPs! Came here directly from reading the latest chapter of Lariope's utterly amazing "Second Life," and you both manage to paint a particularly conniving, nasty portrait of Albus (extraordinarily plausible, too, I might add). Here, Voldemort is almost a better master--he understands what Severus is willing to sacrifice and sees how he can use that for his own ends--he knows what Hermione means to him, while Dumbledore is too focused on his Master Plan to even care how Severus feels.Fascinating, complicated, and quite wonderfully done--and I need more!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so very much! I've been a bit of a wibbling ninny and seeing Second Life update was a relief and a sweet (well, all things considered) distraction for me today!
Response from Elise_Wanderer (Reviewer)
A wibbling ninny, huh? Well, you sure write good for one!
Oh My! I knew this would be an intense chapter with the way the last one ended -- as well as the extra time it was taking to post (I had become VERY spoiled with the weekly updates, but I knew I had to be patient.) You did not disappoint. Early on this was an intense and confusing chapter. From your skillful pen it became an intense and confounding chapter. I feel how Severus has been backed into a corner by both Voldemort (the Dark rings true) and the idiot, Dumbledore (who can't seem to see beyond the end of his nose -- I really don't like Dumbledore here and hope there is a fitting future for him provided by Severus and Hermione). But where this story will go from here is really puzzling. Keep up the good work and I look forward to your next revealing chapter (whenever it comes). Thanks, JoAnne (a much calmer fan now that I have had my "Creature" fix )
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh, thank you, thank you. Your review soothes my soul, and believe me, it needed soothing.
Awesome chapter. Gut-wrenching and dramatic. I can't wait for more!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much!
Oh... Wow! I really do not like Albus! LOL So. Their souls have been literally ripped apart. I hurt for them. I wish I knew what the Dark Lord was planning...
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much.
This is crazy I can't wait for the next chapter. This must have taken a lot out of you to write. Gah.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
It did, it did, it did.
Thank you for reviewing, and I promise, I'm working on the next chapter already.
look i never review...its not my thing. but in your case i will make an exception.......imagine the most evil glare and a bit of finger waging and listen upYOU WILL FIX THIS!!!!!!!!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Your review means so much to me! First, because it's so rare! (Wow, thank you so very much!) And second, because it made me laugh when I was feeling all worried and tense.
I will fix it. I promise.
Wow that was intense, eagerly awaiting the next chapter.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much. I'm working on it now.
Oh wow. That was powerful. While reading through the last bit with Tom Riddle I kept wondering about the "what if's". There has to be a catch, for surely Tom would never allow Severus to have any person in his life that could possibly match the devotion and affection he felt for his master? Can't wait for the next chapter!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yes, that is certainly something to contemplate, isn't it? Thank you for your response. It's so helpful to me.
