How did Snape survive Nagini’s attack, how did he and Hermione get together, and how did Prince Manor get involved?
This was written for the 2011 SSHG Exchange, in response to aleysiasnape's prompt: Severus and Hermione are trapped somewhere in Prince Manor while exploring.

I have completed my Master's of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and want to focus on serving the LGBTQIA community and the Alt/Kink/Poly communities in my work. I used to be a poker tournament director and floorperson at the world famous Binion's Gambling Hall in downtown Las Vegas. Before that, I was high school Spanish and Theatre teacher. I am happily married and (thankfully) have NO kids. I have an original short story published here: http://www.elm-books.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=R01%2DChristmasBadGirls under my penname, Jess Alynn. Thanks for taking a chance and reading my stories! :)
Oh, and check out the "trailer" for Phantom of Hogwarts that xtahsee made for me on youtube! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k63yCE9sslY

Oh I enjoyed this immensely! Once I started I couldn't stop. A wonderful story all around. Loved it all. Thanks so much for sharing.

*beams* Why, thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for reviewing! :)
That was a lovely story. I couldn't stop reading it once I started.
Response from Good_Witch (Author of Reading the Stories That Scars Tell)
*blush* Yay! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thank you so much for reviewing! :)
*Dies laughing* When I reviewed the last chapter, I didn't actually expect them to be found au naturel. Not that I'm complaining, LOL.It was good of Draco to go to McGonagall and ask her to wrangle her ex-cubs. I love when people write mature Draco. And then a happy ending ... sigh. I am a sucker for those. So glad to see you back here again. I hope you have more up your sleeve! And soon!
Response from Good_Witch (Author of Reading the Stories That Scars Tell)
*gigglesnort* I had way too much fun putting everyone through that awkwardness. *iz ebil* Glad you enjoyed it too. ;) I figured Draco should get a second chance too, just like our fave Slytherin, Severus himself. Thank you for all your lovely reviews! :)
Drat! I didn't want them let out. Because if it hadn't worked then someone would have eventually come to their rescue while they were a pile of naked limbs. If it were Draco, he has a bit of decorum, so he would walk in quietly, see what was going on, avert his eyes, back out of the room, and then make some noise so they would be alerted to his presence and could disentangle before he walked in.If it were Harry, he would come barging in balls to the wall and be on them before they knew what hit them. There would be gasping, and blushing, and awkwardness. He would let them out, then excuse himself to go. And probably end up inadvertantly telling Ron in which case the next war could begin.Minerva ... she would be the fun one because she strikes me as having some voyeuristic tendencies, LOL. Yes, it is settled, it must be her. Oh, wait, they already got out. Damn!
Response from Good_Witch (Author of Reading the Stories That Scars Tell)
Heee!! I love your scenarios! LOL Thanks so much for reviewing! :)
Boy are you lucky the next chapter is up or there would be some yelling and gnashing of teeth. I can't even say anything else as I am off to find out more.
Response from Good_Witch (Author of Reading the Stories That Scars Tell)
BWAHAHAHAHHAA!! Oh, that's awesome. ;D Thanks for reviewing! :)
Oh, yes! Danger is always good for bringing people closer together, LOL. I'm glad he has patience with her. It isn't like she isn't interested. She's just young and unsure of herself.I loved Halloween night. She is so thoughtful, and he goes along with whatever she does, just to be with her and to see her happy. This story is a nice change from the super angst ridden tales, or the ones where they jump into bed right away. Not that I don't love both of those scenarios, but this is just a refreshing change of pace.
Response from Good_Witch (Author of Reading the Stories That Scars Tell)
*beams* You just made my day, saying you found this a refreshing change of pace. I was trying for something a little different from the things I'd previously done. Thanks so much for reviewing! :)
So close, and yet so far. I suppose it is the best thing he can do, making his intentions clear, and then letting her set the pace. I believe she will come around when she is ready, and I think he realizes that too. But I hope it is sooner rather than later (and not just for my own selfish purposes) because that poor man has suffered enough.
Response from Good_Witch (Author of Reading the Stories That Scars Tell)
LOL!! Indeed. :D I think it's safe to say that most of us would rather it be sooner than later, for him AND for our own reasons. *snort* Thanks so much for reviewing! :)
Oh, lovely. There is nothing better than some crazy drunken snogging with a man who has the sense to be respectful and take things slow until it can be done properly. I can't wait to see what happens next!
Response from Good_Witch (Author of Reading the Stories That Scars Tell)
Mmmm, respectful snogging... ;D Glad you're enjoying it (as well as those two). Thanks so much for reviewing! :)
“Shall we?” Hermione's head was swimming, and she wondered just how much was really being asked with that innocuous question. That about sums it all up, doesn't it?I like your playful version of Severus. It looks good on him. And I love that even Kelly notices that there is something there. It is a good sign, indeed. And he is making plans for her. This ought to be good :)
Response from Good_Witch (Author of Reading the Stories That Scars Tell)
*applauds* I'm so glad that line came across to you the way I intended. :D I'm glad you enjoy flirty, playful Severus. It's about time the man got a chance to be that way. Thanks for such a lovely review! :)
Does she really not see that he has feelings for her? Of course, he isn't being terribly obvious about it, but still, has it not occured to her? But maybe it seems unlikely to her, or maybe she is young and inexperienced with these feelings, or maybe she is used to having close "boy friends" and so all of the touching and teasing and stuff just seems like what friends do. I am glad that she is moving in with him, and I hope that all goes smoothly.
Response from Good_Witch (Author of Reading the Stories That Scars Tell)
I think it's more inexperience than anything else. But it can be a nice slow buildup, right? LOL Thanks so much for reviewing! :)
Oh, no! I hadn't even considered the fact that she and Ron might have a relationship, or an arrangement between friends, or whatever. I feel bad for everyone involved. But, I think both Severus and Hermione need to figure out exactly what it is they want and maybe this will be the catalyst to make each look at how they feel for each other, or at least how they are starting to feel, anyway.
Response from Good_Witch (Author of Reading the Stories That Scars Tell)
Yeah, it was unfortunate for everyone, but perhaps it will be a good catalyst. Thanks for reviewing! :)
Yes, Severus, everything and everyone is better covered in chocolate! I love how playful he is with her without being inappropriate. I mean, I am looking quite forward to inappropriate, but they are just not quite there yet.Just why was he checking out the classroom? I hope he is looking for a workspace or something, because if he is thinking of preparing a room for her closer to his, he need not bother. She'll be in his bed soon enough. I know you won't let me down in that arena ;) A fun, flirty, all around lovely chapter!
Response from Good_Witch (Author of Reading the Stories That Scars Tell)
ROFL!!! I'm glad you enjoyed the flirting; it was SO much fun to write. ;D Thanks so much for reviewing! :)
That went very well. He was disconcerted by all the hand holding, but he didn't actually seem to mind. Of course Hermione is dying to learn anything she can get her hands on, and he surely has a lot to tell. I think this just might work out perfectly.
Response from Good_Witch (Author of Reading the Stories That Scars Tell)
hehehehe After all he's been through, it might be just the thing he needs--positive physical human contact. Thanks so much for reviewing! :)
What a lovely start to a story. Good of Snape to make plans for such a situation to arrive, because with his luck, it always does. And he is in such good hands with Pomfrey and Hermione. I do hope he recovers and spends many happy years telling her his tale. *gets ahead of myself*
Response from Good_Witch (Author of Reading the Stories That Scars Tell)
*beams* Poor man did always seem to have bad luck, didn't he? Perhaps it's time for his luck to change! ;) Thanks so much for reviewing! :)
I am assuming they took all the books from the library before distroying the manor. Will Severus and Hermione ever rebuild there? Spinner's End doesn't sound like an exactly wonderful place to live, except for their friends at the bar. I don't remember if you said where Prince's family Manor is located. Great story!
Response from Good_Witch (Author of Reading the Stories That Scars Tell)
I would never presume to try to say where Prince Manor (or even Spinner's End, for that matter) was located. I know nothing about the UK. LOL Glad you enjoyed the story, and thanks for all the lovely reviews! :)
Well, I would say it was a damn good thing they had that book with them!
Response from Good_Witch (Author of Reading the Stories That Scars Tell)
It was rather illuminating, wasn't it? *snerk* Thanks for reviewing! :)
Oooooo, now it gets juicy. I like a mystery. I am going to guess that they have to do something as a couple to get out of that attic. This is a romance after all and they have been putting it off for quite some time now.
Response from Good_Witch (Author of Reading the Stories That Scars Tell)
LOL!! Indeed. Sneaky mirror! ;) Thanks for reviewing! :)
This story left me feeling happy and fuzzy and floaty....I really enjoyed it. Thanks so much for sharing!!
Response from Good_Witch (Author of Reading the Stories That Scars Tell)
Yay! I'm glad it took you to a happy place. Thanks so much for reviewing! :)
What are Hermione's reservations about taking Severus' advances seriously, other than if it didn't work out it could ruin thier friendship? I know he is certain he will never want another. She knows his loyalty to Lily was utterly steadfast. If she only thinks about it she will realize that Severus Snape does not give his heart lightly. If it doesn't work out it would be because she didn't feel as deeply about him as he does her. I know he can be a bastard at times but she's already accepted that. What does he have to do, cut out his heart and give it to her on a platter to get her to stop running from him even though she seems interested at least?
Response from Good_Witch (Author of Reading the Stories That Scars Tell)
She's young and inexperienced and doesn't want to take things lightly. Hermione has always seemed like one to over-prepare for things (the spying on the Ministry in book 7 comes to mind). Feelings can prove to be steadfast over time. It's only been a few months since he woke from the coma, after all. Thanks so much for reviewing! :)
Dear, wise Severus. He'll not take her while she's drunk. He'll want to know it's really him she wants. I hope she isn't so drunk she won't remember the wonderful snogging they experienced tonight. And I hope she won't be sorry. Come on, Hermione. Go for it! You can't mistake tonight's dinner as anything other than a romantic gesture. What's holding you back? Worried you don't want him enough in a sexual way? Is it the age difference? You can't possibly still be clueless to the fact that he wants you. I don't expect you to see that he is also in love with you, yet. Don't lead him on. OK?
Response from Good_Witch (Author of Reading the Stories That Scars Tell)
He is wise, indeed. He may not have much experience, but he knows a really bad idea now when he sees one. ;D Thanks so much for reviewing! :)
I very glad Hermione seems to be having an attraction to Severus that is more than sisterly. He was always a master at biding his time. I noticed all the people she's inviting are young men. Except for Ginny and Luna she doesn't have any girl friends. That's why she is able flirt so innocently. I had the same problem. All my friends were guys, for the most part. Girls were catty at that age. I was closer to 30 before I learned to love my women friends and realize how important the girls club was for married women. I know some people say their spouse is their best friend, but frankly, a lot of men having trouble saying, "wow, that really sucks. I'm sorry" instead of thinking "What does she want me to do about it?"
Response from Good_Witch (Author of Reading the Stories That Scars Tell)
It is a shame that Ginny and Luna are still at Hogwarts and can't come to her party. But, I think things turned out okay anyway... ;) Thanks so much for reviewing! :)
Is Hermione the only one in the entire wizarding world who believes that anyone will actually believe they are only roommates? This isn't college. I'm glad she excepted but I'm wary. I don't want Severus' heart broken again. I wish she could see how simular to Lilly's her relationship with Severus is.
Response from Good_Witch (Author of Reading the Stories That Scars Tell)
Aww, I promise, there's a happy ending. ;) There's a connection, but there also has to be mutual attraction... which Severus is all too willing to work on. Thanks for reviewing! :)
What did I say? She doesn't have a clue! Damn! I didn't think of Ron either. She's too young for Severus. She has no idea that you can't go touching a man and holding his hand all the time if you don't intend to send a message that you're interested in him. Poor Severus! She's led him on without meaning to. She's used to keeping Ron and her intellectual pursuits separate because he's such a cretin. I hope Severus sees that there is no real future for Hermione and Ron. Women don't stay with men who are less intellegent than they are, if they want an equal relationship and don't plan on being their mother. I hope Hermione realizes it too, sooner rather than later. I think Minerva should clue her in on how to interact with adult men. I remember my mom trying to tell me one of my male friends was in love with me. I thought she was silly. I realized the truth when he told me as he wept about a month before my wedding to my husband of almost 33 years. Once I knew, I realized I had been in denial about the fact that I had developed feelings for him as well. I was honestly torn. After 33 years, I still think of him very often and I wonder if he ever thinks of me. Severus is not Harry. Does she think of him as a brother or uncle? A lab partner or study partner at school? He's a grown man who has been very lonely. She understands the lonely but not the grown man part.
Response from Good_Witch (Author of Reading the Stories That Scars Tell)
Ah, but the course of love never runs smooth... Give them time, darlin, they'll figure things out--eventually. ;) Thanks so much for reviewing! :)
What if he has nightmares with Hermione gone? I'm sure that's a good enough reason for her to stay the night with him. Only to hold his hand, of course. Hasn't she been sleeping next to him in the infirmary? I hope you are going to tell us what Hermione is thinking about when she gets back to her room. Does she realize he is flirting with her? Girls never realize that guys don't joke with girls they aren't attracted to. I was a girl once. We can joke and flirt and mean nothing by it but good fun. Men don't flirt and mean nothing by it. If they don't mean it, they don't flirt at all. What I'd give to be flirted with again. I do so miss it. I didn't realize how lucky I was so long ago. Well, enough of those sad thoughts. I'm sure Hermione can be flirted with enough for both of us to cheer up.
Response from Good_Witch (Author of Reading the Stories That Scars Tell)
LOL Our dear Hermione may be oblivious, but she's bound ot be smart enough to figure it out sometime, right? ;P Thanks so much for reviewing! :)
