Chapter 1
Chapter 1 of 29
ancientgirlHermione gets a letter of invitation to return to Hogwarts. Will she say yes?
ReviewedI had been toying with this idea for a while. I had written a response to the 100 word mirror of Erised challenge and wanted to write a full story. I hope you like this.
These characters are owned by JKR, I'm just toying with them.

Chapter 1
Hermione Granger had been working at the Dover University of Witchcraft, cataloging many of its old books and scrolls, for the last 6 months. She had graduated with honors the year before and took six months off to travel and rest. When she was offered a job at the university after her return from France, Hermione immediately accepted. Living at home would have been nice for a while, but she wanted to move out and go on with her life as a young adult.
Hermione had majored in Transfiguration and in Potions, and managed to get her degree in both. As she began her job she thought she would love being surrounded by so much education and history. However, much to her dismay, she found out quite quickly that it was insanely boring. For now though it was steady money and it was better than nothing. On Friday evening, after a long week of cataloging, she arrived at her flat and found an owl waiting for her outside her bedroom window.
She opened the window to allow the owl inside and immediately put out a small cup with water and a plate with a few pieces of bacon, which she always had handy. She then untied the small scroll from his leg and sat on her bed to read it:
Dear Miss. Granger:
I am writing you this letter hoping you are well rested after your long vacation. I had heard of your graduation from the University of Witchcraft at Dover and recent employment by said university. I was beyond thrilled to hear that you obtained not one but two full degrees. As you may or may not have heard yourself, Professor McGonagall will be in need of a teachers assistant for her Transfiguration class this year. It is my pleasure to offer to you this position.
I know that you will a great asset to Hogwarts, as you are one of the few students to have graduated with such high marks in close to twenty years.
I have instructed the owl to wait for your response.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Kindest regards,
Albus Dumbledore
Headmaster
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft
Hermione was elated. She had so often dreamed of going back to the one place where she always felt she belonged, the one place she truly felt at home in. She gave the owl more bits of bacon and water and sat at her desk to write her response:
Dear Headmaster Dumbledore:
I cannot begin to tell you how happy I was to have received your offer.
I am honored that you would think of me and will of course accept.
Please let me know when you wish for me to begin. I would like to give my current employer the proper notice.
Thank you for this wonderful opportunity. I look forward to seeing you and the other professors soon, and please give my regards to Professor McGonagall.
Yours truly,
Hermione Granger
She smiled, then tied the note to the owl and it immediately flew away. She sat back in her chair and began to make her plans. Hermione would have to tell her parents of course, and then Harry and Ron. She knew they were still in their Auror training, and were for the moment, in a secluded part of England going through secret training missions. She would write them anyway and just have the note delivered to their apartment so they could read it upon their return.
After she sent off her note to Harry and Ron, she began to make a list of all the things that needed to make the trip to Hogwarts with her. If she was going to be living at Hogwarts she would no longer need her flat and most of what was in it. Deciding not to leave anything to the last minute, Hermione began to designate what was to be kept and what was to be given or throw away.
Hermione sat happily on the floor, packing some books and other smaller objects, when she came to a sudden realization. She was going to live at Hogwarts! That meant she was going to be living under the same roof as him, work at the same place, eat at the same table. They were going to be colleagues! How was she going to function around him without making him suspicious? She laughed and shook her head. He hated her so much, chances were he would not give her a second look anyway. He would never know, could never even imagine how she felt about him. Anyway, why would he even care?
No, there was no way Professor Severus Snape would ever give a rat’s rump that she was in love with him even if he did know.

Hi! Thank you for the lovely review. I have a few sequals to this story. I hope you enjoy those as well! I've also got some comedies. :)
Draco, a typical man!
Awe, he so unsure of himself, and Hermione well if I was in her situation I would have a hard time keeping my hands off him too, growwlll!
Response from ancientgirl (Author of The Long Wait)
I've always seen him as such a shy person. Mainly due of course to him not being accepted as a child by the other kids.
love your Draco, I really like stories that pair Ginny and Drco!
Response from ancientgirl (Author of The Long Wait)
Thank you! It's always wonderful to hear someone likes your work. I've always liked the Ginny/Draco pairing as well. I'm especially fond of the Ginny/Lucius paring.

A lovely wedding, an even lovelier baby boy, and Ron get a pair of fuzzy earrings. Sounds just right to me.I'm sure with Crooks and Osiris as his "mentors," little Raven Sanguis Snape will become a very capable Slytherin. Well done!Beth

Woo hoo! Now they both know that each of them had seen the other in the Mirror of Erised.
I can't stop smiling.

The first part of this chapter was total angst, but you managed to save Osiris, and tha silly raven had me laughing my arse off by the end. I hope things go as well with Severus and Hermione when he sees her again. Beth
Response from ancientgirl (Author of The Long Wait)
Before I started writing my own fanfiction, I always hated reading stories with chapters upon chapters of angst. I read a story once in which every single possible bad thing that could happen to a person happened to Hermione. It's one of the reasons I began to write my own stuff. I just wanted to do something different.

This is gut wrenching. I don't want Osiris to die, but I really don't want the baby to die.Beth
Response from ancientgirl (Author of The Long Wait)
I cried while I wrote this chapter. I still cry when I read it. There was no way, though, that I was going to kill Osiris off.

Good God, man! Go find Hermione- she's ill -and pregnant -and needs someone to help her!!!
Beth
I could kiss Draco! Finally something might change. I hope the dynamic duo are doing their own bit of sleuthing to get to the bottom of this.
Beth
Hooray! With Crookshanks and Osiris on the case there's a chance for things to get better for Hermione and Severus. I hope it doesn't take too long. And I hope Draco decides to get involved, too. These love birds need all the help they can get right now.Beth
Response from ancientgirl (Author of The Long Wait)
Yeah, Osiris and Crooks are going to be a great team.

At least Hermione has been able to talk to Ginny and Draco. At least she has them to give her support until she can think... and I hope someone puts a bug is Severus' ear.
Beth
Now the plot thickens! Please let something good happen to bring them back together so they can both know the truth about what happened.*still want to see Ron get what he deserves*Beth
Response from ancientgirl (Author of The Long Wait)
No worries. Ron will get his.

Ouch- that hurt. I feel bad for both of them. Ron Weasley needs to have his anatomy adjusted! Beth

OH, he'll get his.

Good Lord! This couldn't have turned out worse. Of course, if Severus hadn't been spying on Hermione he wouldn't have heard the stupid crap Ron said... but still I'd like to strangle the ginger idiot myself. *grrrrrrrrrr*Beth

He should have just trusted her.
