Loved this the first time I read it; love it now.I adore this Severus, and how you've portrayed him in all his glorious moral ambiguity. He's self-serving and cooly (even coldly) calculating rather than tragically misunderstood, as he so often is portrayed. This feels truer to me.I love how laser-sharp his observations of others are--exactly how I imagine he would have to be to have survived his two masters as long as he did.

Thanks for the lovely review! I think you're absolutely right about Snape -- not "tragically misunderstood" at all. And definitely, he'd have to be extremely sharp and capable to survive at all.
