Seventh-year student Hermione Granger decides to marry the one eligible wizard who did not ask for her--the horrid but powerful Severus Snape. All is not sweetness and light. Be careful what you ask for. Or, as has been said by many a wise witch, "Marry in haste; repent in leisure." MLC

Care of Magical Creatures recently received two awards on "Secrets of the Dark Vaults," a Russian fanfic site. Best NC-17 and Best Maxi Translation. The Nine-Year Plan was awarded Best Mini-Fic! I'm delighted to be in translation and to please the readers in Russia!

With the completion of Care of Magical Creatures my fanfic output is going to slow way down, but if you want to be sure to know when new fics post, please follow me on twitter. I don't tweet much, but I'll surely tweet that kind of thing.
About Mia
I came to the world of Harry Potter relatively early, after first resisting it because it just seemed too trendy. But when the first book came out in paperback in the US I picked it up at the airport when I was about to catch a flight, and two chapters in knew I would be ordering the original from amazon.co.uk in hardcover as soon as I landed.
I came to fanfic late, waiting until after I'd read DH. That means I've been totally obsessed with the fanfic world of Harry Potter, and most specifically the SS/HG ship, since August of '07.
I'm helplessly and hopelessly hooked.
Reviews for Care of Magical Creatures
how i loved the idea of the baby being bored and wanting to be entertained! and by his father. wonderful idea. loved george's anouncement. love whole story!! thanks so much
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Wouldn't you want to hear that voice, even from within the womb? I think anybody would!Thank you so much!
It's been a long time since I last reviewed. For some reason, I stopped getting email alerts for updates. A lot has happened since I last reviewed. Voldemort is destroyed, Hermione is pregnant. I don't understand why she wouldn't want a baby from Severus, unless it's because of her age, and the fact that up until this point, he wasn't a very good husband. I'm really curious to see how she decides to bring down the Marriage Law.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I don't think Hermione considers Severus less than a good husband, but she's been consistent from the very beginning about her doubts re: having children, and to have it sprung on her this way... well, she's having to work hard to deal with it, I think.Thank you so much for the review. I'm glad you found me again!
I think this chapter shows Hermione that Professor Snape is an admirably opponent. He appears totally in charge of the situation and quite at ease, even with the unusual circumstances. He shows disdain for Hermione, at the same time being a brilliant tactian, using every twist to his advantage. If I were Hermione, my red alert, danger ahead alarm would be ringing.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I think she's realized how much trouble she may be in, and is going to have struggle to keep up with him! Thank you so much!
That was another absolutely and utterly fantastic chapter.I find so cute that Severus is so insecure about the baby, thinking he despises him. Every new father go through this I think. Even the most confident are often helpless while facing the reality of a baby. I so much want him to be tender and caring towards her. Not that he isn't. I just want to see it with my own eyes because it's a wonderful thing to witness. Again you have all my gratitude for your brilliant work. You know, I almost (almost) want this to be over so I can read your next creation. Dis I precise almost ? *grin*
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
My next "creations" are going to shorter, much shorter! This one has drained me and I can't handle any more long fanfics for awhile, but thank you so very much for your wonderful thoughts!
Great chapter, I do think they will eventually become like a favorite pair of comfy shoes.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yes, I think Hermione is underestimating the appeal of comfy shoes, isn't she?
Wow! I've just re-read all of this wonderful fic, It's just amazing!
I'm glad Molly can see that they are right for one another. Their getting there.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Wow, thank you!
Utterly delightful. Is Fred's reincarnation truly inside Hermione's belly? Talk about Karma for Severus! How fun! I'm so glad that the next chapter will come soon.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you! The next chapter should pop up soon, I hope!
They seem to be getting there! :)
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
(fingers crossed)Thanks!
Oh blimey. Now you've made me cry again... I loved this chapter sooo much. They're mad about each other aren't they? It's wonderful and touching and painful all at the same time...
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you! Tears are the ultimate review, and I can't thank you enough for that.
Oh poor George, It' sgood that he finally started to laugh. I was surprised by the reception of her firends. Harry was so coool. ANd Hermione turning to Molly for advise and books! LOL that was cute.I especially liked, by faoirte part of the chapter when Hermione tells Severus that his son wanted to hear his voice - to have him read to him so he wouldn't be bored! Loved that so much.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I'm so glad you liked that! Poor Sev, he's having so much trouble dealing with all this! Thank you!
Oh the request was a horribly complicatedone nad yes, I find that I agree with all of Severus' motives for it. I'm glad that he saved her tea service.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Severus has done some difficult things in this fic and sometimes he loses me readers. I hoped people would understand him here. Thank you for doing so.And then, of course, I let Hermione do something pretty awful, too! (Pregnant women, you know? But I kind of think she might have lost it over this issue, even if she weren't pregnant.)I'm glad he saved it, too.And thank you so much for sharing your reactions with me.
Tee, hee. Love that last line! Since you already know that I adore this story, I can admit that I had my reservations when I first read this chapter. I'm not sure how to explain, short of saying that Hermione's actions - of asking Snape to marry her didn't quite ring true to me. Although I do understand that her usual logic could be underminded by the stress of the circumstances she found herself in. Without giving anything away for the new reader, I will say that much later in the story I had my ah ha moment in relation to my doubts raised in this chapter. One thing that did grab me was your unique writing style. I'll never claim to be a writer. I'm a lifelong reader, who has been drawn in and captivated by this SS/HG corner of the huge HP fandom. I've played at writing, but I don't known real rules or styles of writing, so I'm not sure what to call the technique you employed in COMC. Be assured it is brilliant. You seem almost minimalist in your prose, yet you capture a depth of atmosphere and emotion.Your dialogue and interplay between Hermione and Severus is fabulous from the start. I love so many of the elements you used here - Hermione disarming Snape (oops!), her citing the use of precautionary potions by staff to prevent inappropriate behavior with students (as if Snape would agree to that, LOL). Meanwhile Snape listens with a disaffected manner, albeit the sarcastic responses, and then effectively shreads her rationale in a manner which gives her no doubt to the magnitude of her insult.
Now it's Snape's turn..............................

You can't begin to imagine how much your review thrills me and how warm it makes me. You say so many wonderful things, and I can't thank you enough for rereading and sharing some of your reactions with me!It's okay that you were uncertain. I understand that. When I started writing this, I thought it was going to be a short-ish, sexy and funny thing, maybe even a PWP. Um, it changed on me, and pretty quickly. I'm SO glad you stuck with it and gave it a chance!~hugs you~
Response from blackeyedlily (Reviewer)
Do you even realize all the hours of enjoyment COMC has given me, and will continue to give when I choose to re-read? Now mutiply that by all your readers. You deserve every bit of praise. It is the least we can do for you. With all the talent out there fanfic is a real bargin! We must keep the authors happy!
Merlin, she was going to be the death of him.And you'll be the death of me!But I NEED to take a break here, if only to get my breath back...Severa
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
And you didn't come back...~worries~I hope I didn't scare you off!
'routine healthcare' is the worst in stories, because it always surprises you. You're not making her pregnant yet, do you?...Thank merlin, you're not....and a whisk of the wand over her wrist revealed a silvery set of numbers that were evidently her blood pressure and pulseOh I LOVE that!...'I chopped my anitottle root instead of shredding it.'Now, isn't that the cutest character you've ever introduced? I had intended to take a break after this chapter. Alas, that last sentence makes that impossible.
Severa
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh, how funny, that my little Hufflepuff should capture your attention that way. Thank you! That thrills me, and I can't even explain why!
Still love Sevi's exchanges with Voldy...They're so ... sophisticated...Severa
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Their relationship is... complicated. I'm glad you like it.
Oh my, what is he up to now???I NEED to read the next one so I don't have time to say anything other than you met and exeeded all expectations I had for this chapter...Severa
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
What a chapter...I'm nearly speechless...I am actually...I can't think of anything to write other than: WHAT a chapter...SeveraPS: Very much looking forward to next chapter. Okay, and here we go...
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
He has demons, doesn't he?But I love how she turns him inside out!
This chapter made me smile a lot.Although come to think of it Hooch's lesson was not really funny...Still, the chapter made me smile somehow...Severa
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Hooch ended up being one of my favorite characters in this. And I can understand what you're saying--that she makes us smile but she's really saying some pretty serious things. Thank you yet again!
Professor Snape stood in the middle of the room staring at the telephone in his hand, clutching her prayer book in the other. She honestly didn't know which struck her as more absurd.I couldn't keep from laughing out loud all the way from this until 'Narcissa Malfoy wasn't going to know what hit her.'It's so, so funny! And I L-O-V-E the washing mashine! I would be inclined to agree with Sevi: 'all over a washer that was old when he was a boy' - if it weren't so damned funny! On a final note:And she snuggled deeper and fought against sleep, just so she could soak up the sensations of being safe… at home… in his arms.Sigh... Well, who wouldn't want that?Severa
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Your reviews continue to thrill me!And you know, I loved that sentence to distraction--him with a telephone and prayer book. It totally cracked me up and still does. (Am I supposed to admit that?)
Telling the stories of the elves is a wonderful idea. Even if she does have rather a lot on her plate already. That choice regarding the Malfoy trial... that cannot have been an easy one.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yes, the Malfoy story has been weaving throughout, and as Sev says, it's complicated. I can't let them off the hook totally, but I think Snape's assessment is fair and accurate in this story.Thank you!
Tricking the Ministry of Magic - my, my, my. It seems Harry was right after all: He HAS a bit influence on her. ...A sherbet lemon shortage!
You had me there again - after a long time I have to say... Maybe I was just too tired. No, that's not it. The last couple o' chapters were a little more sober, but I don't mind at all. They worked great to give the story more depth. ..."Minerva," he said pleasantly, "bite my arse."And again! Two in a matter of minutes. Great work!
Severa
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Your happy-face-clapping makes me grin from ear to ear.I forgot to say in response to your previous review, yes I do make tea like Hermione, though I usually use teabags, but the rest is the same!
I'm not a tea-drinker, but I was wondering whether you have tried brewing it the way Hermy does?Sevi's really cute when he's jealous... Gives Ron the picture with a bent corner... Ron's rather cute in this scene, too...SeveraPS: Do you know the song 'Could I have this kiss forever' by Enrique Iglesias and Whitney Houston. It keeps playing in my head and I think it's rather fitting for your story...(Look on YouTube if you don't know it and listen closely to the text.)
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
LOL! That bent corner cracked me up!And this is a new song to me... oh, this is really beautiful. Thank you for pointing me in that direction (I have it on youtube now)!
It's such a long chapter yet it feels all too short...Wonderful last paragraph by Sevi. Very, very, wonderful.Severa
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh, thank you. When I was writing these chapters, they seemed to stretch forever, waiting for these next moments, and yet I didn't see how I could speed anything up. I'm glad the end worked for you.
Lovely picture...And Hagrid! Oh Hagrid is so ... so ... so Hagrid! The last two lines are heart-wrenching...Severa
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I'm thrilled you liked Hagrid. :)And those last two lines--I didn't expect them myself. They slipped through my fingers, just like they came from her mouth!
I'm looking forward to the trial. It will be interesting to see what Hermione will say and do.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so very much. I hope you continue to like the last chapters as they post.
