I'm very glad you liked it! I would like to think that Snape would have had good reason to love Lily for so long besides just an unrequited longing for her.

I know some people have a hard time understanding Severus's still loving Lily so long after her death, but I don't. It's not the same kind of love, but Harry loved and longed for his parents all his life and never even met them. So I don't see why it's improbable or unlikely or even weird or disturbing for Severus to still love Lily, a girl he met as a lonely boy. She was his only friend for so many years and the fact he regrets their falling out is enough reason, by my lights, for him to maintain the feeling of regret and longing so many years later.

The tears began to well up when Lily was talking about their different paths, and I could almost hear Severus screaming her name. Brilliant.
