I have loved the written word since watching my mother’s fingers trace the lines of a book, luxuriating in riveting tales and well-turned phrases. Many a night I read until dawn, a plastic flashlight hidden under the covers to light the pages as I raced the rising sun to finish my latest must-read.
Since joining the HP fandom, I've been privileged to receive more than 50 awards, including Best Author (Quill to Parchment Awards) and Best Classic Author (Most Potente Passions). Among others, my stories have won awards for Best Hurt/Comfort (Spoils of War, Morning Has Broken), Best Novel Length (Calling Card, Guard…Check…Mate), Best One Shot (A Beach in Ireland), Best WIP (Saving a Death Eater, The Summoning), Favorite Overall Story (Complexities), and Readers’ Choice (A Quest of Paladins).
Aside from a judicious polish for formatting and egregious typos, I don't plan on revising my early work. Those stories are the stepping stones of my writing journey. Please note some stories contain adult content. None is more graphic than equivalent scenes in the television shows True Blood or Game of Thrones, and age appropriate warnings are posted.
I no longer write fanfiction prolifically. Like many fanfic authors, my focus has shifted to original work. A member of the Romance Writers of America and the Southern California Writers Association, I write under my name: Lin Thornhill.
My original story Verisimilitude published in Thoroughly Modern Monsters (Story Spring Publishing, 2013) reached the top 100 fantasy anthologies and broke into the top 10 in the UK the first month of release. Ben and Christine’s story will continue in 2016.
Fixation, my latest short story, slated for publication in J. Aldis’ anthology Immanence, with a winter 2015-2016 release, is particularly exciting as it anchors the Messengers of Inari novel series I’ve been developing for the past year.

Reviews for Saving a Death Eater
I was so pleased to find this so quickly on PP. I love all the HG/SS stories u clever folk write and I'm glad DH revealed Snape as Dumbledores' and that love of Lily was the reason... I also think while rather quick and heartless the manner of Snape's death it fits Voldy's style while leaving lots of possibilities open to continue writing HG/SS Good luck to all

I wasn't racing or anything, but I just had to fix it, and I couldn't sleep until I did. Thanks so much for reading it.That Voldemort would so casually kill his chief lieutenant if it suited his need was not inconsistent with his drive; so that didn't bother me. Leaving Snape's sacrifices as so meaningless did.I'm sure there will be any number of stories floating around quite soon as JKR left us with a lot of room to invent.Thank you.
Good stuff! The end of cannon is not the end of the world, as you have so nicely proved here.Thank you for writing! And mega fast too!
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
Thank you. Unlike others who might think it was sloppy writing, I think JKR was gracious enough to leave fandom a few ambiguous points so that we could continue to play.It wasn't anything pre-meditated, but I just couldn't rest until I'd figured a way out for Snape. He's been my favorite character since late in book one, and I hated the ignoble way he was left on the floor of the Shrieking Shack, believing none of his sacrifice had counted.
Everyone needs to take pointers in reading this. There is fanficlife after DH. Im getting sick and tired of all the moaning and groaning of people saying thats the end of HP fandom. Blah to them. in a lighter note, I would love if you continued this.
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
I don't think the fandom is over, it'll evolve, but it won't die out.I don't have current plans to continue this, but if/when I do write my post-DH SS/HG, this will be the jumping off point. You're an angel to leave such a nice review. Thank you.
Danke for this - I'm still in denial about Snape's death...it was so cold and unfeeling, I still can't believe it happened so quickly! I'm glad that Rowling at least gave him a nod in the Epilogue.
Thanks again!
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
You make an excellent point. It was cold and unfeeling, and I, for one, don't believe he's dead. I think three semi-frantic seventeen-year-olds didn't recognize unconsciousness. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.The epilogue (that horribly sloppy addition to the book so that JKR won't be importuned into writing an eighth book,) just doesn't realize he's disappeared from Britain. But Snape is alive and well on another continent!Thank you for reading.
YES!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
You are most welcome. And thank you too.
I so needed that, today of all days.
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
I know exactly how you feel -- it's really why I wrote it. I'm glad JKR redeemed him, but I hated the way she left him in the Shrieking Shack. Although she was kind to the fandom and left a big ol' opening! Thanks!
Thank you! This was a much needed break from the moaning and groaning I've been doing throughout the final few chapter of DH!
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
You're very welcome. I'm so glad to have given you something not to moan and groan about! What great praise. ::snicker:: Thanks so much.
Thank you! Someone had to do it! I can't believe he was just left in the shack and never mentioned again until used as a namesake. I can totally believe that Hermione would go back for him even if Harry wouldn't.
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
Thanks,
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
!I don't think Hermione has that level of cruelty. Even if she didn't do something, she'd have told someone about Snape. But with no body, no portrait in the headmaster's office and no funerals, there's lots of room for maneuvering!
Response from Shishkeberry (Reviewer)
Lots of room for maneuvering? Thank heavens for that. :D
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
::grins:: Enough that I could drive one huge truck through the plot hole! ::grins:: I may just have to do that.
Bless you Bambu for posting this. I was so very sad when I read DH and was praying that my favorite authors would come up with a way to continue the genre. Also good to know I am not the only one that didnt sleep this weekend finishing the book.
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
Not only did I not sleep, but I was haunted by the horrible fact that Snape supposedly died in the Shrieking Shack -- the scene of his most terrifying childhood experience. I just had to give it a more hopeful spin.I'm so pleased you thought it worked. Thanks!
Thank you very much for this story. I felt so horrible after I finished DH, and simply refused to believe that Snape could be really dead without the chance of ever having the life he deserved.
Your story makes a different version entirely plausible. Any chance for a sequel?
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
I felt exactly the same as you when I'd finished the book. I'd expected Snape to be killed off, but I really hated the way it happened, and seized on the loophole.A sequel? There's a good probability, but I'm not sure when it'll happen. Thanks so much for reading and liking it enough to comment.
::glomps you:: That was....fab! I truly hope that you are not going to leave this AS a one-shot. It defeinitely requires a further explanation. I would like to know what happens next. Thank you for writing this and thanks JK for leaving some windows for us fanfic lovers! This was really great. Long live Sev!
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
Thanks so much. At the moment I don't have any concrete plans to continue this; but I'm undoubtedly going to have to do at least one story where they end up together later on ... and I'll use this as the jumping off point.I do hope you're patient because I have a WIP I must finish first.I'm really glad you enjoyed it.
Bravo. Bravissimo!
Thank you so much for this ... it acted as an antivenin to the sadness that has clouded my brain since last night. Thank you!
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
::hugs you::Thank you very much. He's far too intelligent not to have been prepared.
Okay so now you've fixed the wrong wrought in the death of Snape... time to remedy Hermione's ill-chosen relationship with Ron...I really enjoyed your one shot, made me less weepy and depressed since I read the last book yesterday in leiu of sleep.
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
::curtseys:: Thank you, thank you.I am NOT a Ron/Hermione shipper, and I don't think the seventh book added much in the way of supporting it. Ron walked away from Harry and Hermione; when he heard her sobbing and begging, he kept walking; and then when he returned it was for Harry and not her. However, I have a friend who suggested that there's nothing even in the E.W.E. (epilogue what epilogue) to show that Ron and Hermione aren't quite contentedly divorced and escorting the kids to the train. I like that interpretation.
Yay! :) Claps. Take that, JKR. Snerk.
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
::glomps you ... smooches you::Thank you, my dear. See! The ship might have sprung a leak, but we can patch it very quickly.
Thank you! You're right, she left a lot of room for this to be possible. I don't want to believe he is really gone and you've made that happen for a few minutes. Thanks this means more than you realize.
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
I think there's a lot of wriggle room, and I highly doubt that Snape -- as canon brilliant as he has been made out to be -- wouldn't have been prepared in some way. This is the wizard who carries Veritaserum with him; and improved on the standard book of potions.I'm really happy to have eased your finishing the book. It helped me too. I was a mess.
Love it. Thanks so much for writing this.
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
And thank you for enjoying it enough to let me know.
I love your writing and was very happy to read this directly after finishing the book a few minutes ago. I do hope that you'll keep on writing in this fandom. I have enjoyed all of yoru stories and hope there are plenty more to come.
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
Aw, what a lovely compliment. Thank you so much. I'll be continuing on in the fandom for the foreseeable future.

Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
Thanks, again.
::sighs:: Thank you for writing this! It was enjoyable... I suggest a smutty adulterous SS/HG sequel? ;D
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
You're most welcome, and thanks for reading it. A sequel? Perhaps ... but it won't be adulterous. I'd never believe it of Hermione (I think her loyalty is her most endearing trait,) even if Ron is a pillock!
Response from mistaria (Reviewer)
Too true on the loyalty front.

Thank you. I told my husband I'd be ok if Severus died if only he would be vindicated, and he was. But it still hurt, and I'm glad to be able to come here today and read this. I don't feel quite so bad.
Author's Response: At least he wasn't evil through and through -- I think I'd have been crushed. But she left wriggle room for the fans, whether by design or accident; I'm quite happy to make use of it.
Thank you for reading.
Thank you so much for writing this. Though I long suspected that JK would kill of our beloved potion's master, it didn't make it any easier when that moment finally came. I must confess that I am still in a state of denial, so your fic was like a soothing balm to my gaping wound that has been somewhere in the pit of my stomach sense reading Severus' death. I like the idea that Snape could somehow be saved (and not just in the metaphysical redemptive sort of way). I really enjoyed your writing and am rather pleased with escaping in to a world where my favorite character didn't really die. As always with your fics, the writing was impecable, the plot well-though out, and the over all fic pervectly executed. Thank you for this.
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
I know what you mean. I thought from the moment I finished the 'Astronomy Tower' chapter that the writing was on the wall, but I'm glad he wasn't unrelentingly evil. I'd never have believed it. Thank you so much for the compliment. I just think there's enough room to make a fairly plausible guess.
Oh thank you! this helps a lot. Its so hard giving him up. Thank god for fanfiction. Poor Severus.
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
I refuse to give him up ... JKR didn't paint a portrait of him, didn't give him (or the others) a funeral, and didn't say in black and white that he was dead. They were seventeen, what did they know about the distinction between death and unconsciousness. It's a magical world, a lot could happen! Thanks so much for enjoying my little take on it.
Response from Calicoskys (Reviewer)
That is true. We are lucky she left it a bit open ended. I'm less shaken up about it now. I knew this was coming but I still wasn't prepared. It's been now taht I've had a day or two away from the book.
Beautifully done, as always. I am so glad that the first fan fiction I looked at after finishing the book was yours. I wasn't quite sure that I would be able to read any more without feeling strange-like trying to hold on to something that was gone forever. This has given me hope that, no matter what has happened in the book, there are enough holes in the story to let us believe what we need to believe to continue on.
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
WW! You know I adore your comments, and this is no exception. I'm honored I'd be the first fanfic that you'd read after finishing the book. She left the door open, and I just connected the dots.Thank you so much for reading and thinking it was plausible.
Great story! Helped me in my grief. Although I´m still in total denial about Snape´s death. I refuse to accept it and I think I´ll stay that way. It´s nicer than facing the truth. :)
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
Thank you. I refuse to believe that Snape is dead, as well. Besides, she left a lot of wriggle room. They're only seventeen-year-olds; what do they know about unconsciousness?
My nerves are still raw. But this was quite sweet!
Response from Bambu (Author of Saving a Death Eater)
I was feeling the same way too, which is why I had to write this. Thanks for reading it.
