MinervaA chance comment on encountering Severus Snape on a bad hair day leads to mortification (hers), teasing (his) and eventually to Emma, Elizabeth and Simon Granger-Snape.
Ten years after Voldmort´s demise, Hermione Granger´s time at the MLE was mainly spent behind a desk. Having risen steadily in the department, her job now was to oversee the implementing and introduction of new laws.
After some Death Eater trials had failed spectacularly due to technical issues – it seemed Pureblood bias didn’t prevent the accused Voldemort-sympathisers and their lawyers from learning some things from Muggles – Minister Shacklebolt had asked Hermione to establish procedures and to train the department heads of the Aurory in following them.
For this last operation, Kingsley had even asked her to come out in the field and oversee things. Observations, monitored Floo-talks and slow-motion analysis of Severus Snape´s and Lucius Malfoy´s Pensieved memories of Death Eater meetings had finally led to what was believed to be the last remnant of Death Eater activity.
The Aurory, Shacklebolt himself – he did well enough as Minister but every so often tried to get some action away from his desk – and Severus Snape were hidden together with Hermione in the swamps of East Anglia. The Potions Master - despite working independently as researcher and brewer of rare and difficult potions - had helped out before as a Dark Arts consultant and had discovered and disarmed countless traps in similar operations.
After finding a magic-detecting hex, they were even denied the comfort of warming and drying charms, and tempers were getting short on the third day.

It's always hard to keep your temper , when you are under stress, especially if your name happens to be Snape.
Stupid review box won't let me review so I have to go to the one that won't let you rate stories. Ugh. Anyways, I liked your little story, except for the last chapter they did seem a little out of character (of course, when do we ever see Snape happy, or professing love?), but I adored your epilogue with the potions accident of "Longbottomish" proportions. Brilliant.

You are right. As much as I (and all readers of HGSS, I guess) wish him to be happy or at least content, it is terribly difficult to plot and write AND stay in character. Although JKR leaves a lot to our imagination (thankfully, the books are written for children) about what being a DE-spy means for Severus. Is he mainly at the castle, going to meetings rarely and to raids not at all? While I guess he would feel guilty nevertheless with this scenario it is possible to heal and have a future eventually . Stories like Loten's Post Tenebras, Lux or Chaos Has Come Again (don't know the author) ring true and in character for me but now and again I ran away with a lighthearted plot-bunny like BHD (besides - I haven't the stamina for a serious, novel-length endavour). Thank you!

Sounds like they both got a bit of revival from meeting together. And poor Hermione with her family. I can completely understand having relatives you don't want to be around.
