"Ah, music. A magic beyond all we do here!" Hermione had long forgotten the fateful words Dumbledore had uttered at the end of her first Welcoming Feast when they proved true beyond the shadow of a doubt.

Reviews for Harmonic Resolution
This was lovely. I love music and listen to many different kinds. I spent many years in choir and piano lessons etc... and have never heard of the music of the spheres. I really thought in the beginning that it was something you made up :) Very sorry to see this tale end but enjoyed it while it lasted. Hope to see more from you very soon! Thanks for sharing.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
I think you're more likely to come across it when studying maths or history of music rather than having just a normal and healthy interest in music. :) Pythagoras, Plato, Kepler, and Newton all had quite a bit to say about it. :)I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thanks so much for all your reviews!
Thank you so very much for sharing this wonderful story with us. I'm glad that you finished the story but sad that I won't be able to come online and read another chapter.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
Thank you for your kind words. If it's any consolation, I've started working on the sequel.
For some reason, I resisted reading this piece until this last chapter came out. It finally resonated with me this evening to read it. It's an interesting piece, and very well written. A little fast for my tastes, but I read quickly, and love long, drawn-out stories. Anyway, good job, and keep writing!
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
Thank you.I didn't think it's the right piece to read through quickly; there is too much detail that's important for the plot to make for a quick read, but maybe that's just me.
Alright, that's the voice she needs to hear, the man she needs to heal. Does her level of emotional pain correspond to the degree of impairement in those who need healing? It seems that the orchestra became more defined when she heard Severus' cries compared to the boy. I'm really getting into the story, or can't you tell?
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
It's more that her level of emotional pain is stronger with someone she knows. The orchestra is becoming more defined as she hears it more often.I love the fact that you're sharing your thoughts with me as you read! Thank you!
At last, the violin has arrived, and Hermione has a better understanding, but will she need to control the music to bring about healing? That Lucius is a funny one. He is so loving and gentle toward Narcissa, but seems to have some contempt for Muggles still. I'm sure he'll soften toward Hermione soon enough.Off to read more!!!
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
I think control is probably too strong a word. The universe can't be controlled, but it can be coaxed I think.Oh, no doubt Lucius loves his wife. :D And you're absolutely right. He will soften towards Hermione.
Three is a magic number in this chapter. The instruments, the heavenly bodies, the chanterelles, and then her Arithmancy equations centered around three and mulitples of it. I can't help but wonder how this will perhaps clarify and intensify her ability to heal. Your pacing is perfect, revealing just enough information and mystery to whet the reader's appetite. Chapter length and breaks are perfect as well.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
Yes, absolutely. Three, six, and nine are very important numbers. :)
This is my bright spot today. I loved Hermione's abrupt brush-off to Prof. Vector. Who needs Arithmancy anyway. She has a new life to begin and a burgeoning mystery to solve. Her solitude feels totally IC, considering what she's endured over the past few years. Her foraging in the forest makes me laugh because of her camping experience with Harry and Ron, yet it holds for her sweeter memories of time spent with her father. I'm frustrated for the Malfoys, though, having to wait another three months to attempt Severus' awakening. Mean old hag! And cue the mysterious music...
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
So glad you like it! :DAw, I wouldn't call the hag mean; on the other hand, of course, there has to be a reason why she has the reputation of a hag.
Sorry I'm late to the party. I haven't had time for a chaptered story of late. Today, however, I have chosen to read your lovely words in hope of a 'pick-me-up', and as an added bonus, I see this story is complete on this archive! What serendipity for Hermione. She discovers an intriguing mystery, the music of the spheres, just when she needs a true diversion from the contrary Prof. Vector. And then the annuity arrives? What good fortune for her, and probably for Severus as well. As a mum, I find it easy to sympathize with Narcissa. But I'm often ambivalent about Lucius. Yet today, I like the kinder, gentler pater Malfoy.Great beginning. I'm off to read and review some more.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
:) So glad you're reading it! And I do hope it works as a pick-me-up!Personally, I gained a lot of respect for both Malfoys during Deathly Hallows, and I wanted to explore the possibilities of what could be their lives after the war.
Hourray for their first kiss!! I'm glad everything is well and that Neville will finally meet properly his parents. Thank you so much for sharing such a wonderful story.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
I'm glad you approve of the kiss! LOL!Thank you for all your lovely comments and stars throughout the posting of this!
This has been such a wonderful story to follow, I have enjoyed every chapter. Thank you so much for sharing:-))
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
Thank you for all your kind comments throughout the posting of this fic! :D
What an uplifting story. I imagine that Bach, for the sheer prolific volume and brilliance of his work, Mozart for the intricate beauty that required no revision, and Beethoven for the ability to create what his human ears could not hear, make them all quite likely candidates for devine intervention where their music is concerned. As for modern rock/pop, I enjoy listening, but it speaks more to my animal instincts. Classical speaks to my soul.I really enjoyed this story. Thanks for sharing.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
Thank you!Yes, I agree with you on Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. You're right in that modern rock speaks to one's animal instincts. Most of it is designed this way by only utilising the pentatonic scale, rather than the diatonic, which is used most widely in classical music. :D
Wonderful, brilliant, amazing. I loved this story.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
*smiles*I'm so glad you feel that way! Thank you for all your lovely reviews!
nice ending if a tad on the pat side. Wonder what vector doth think of it all.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
Whatever that means. Thanks.
Now, he's back, and she's back - time to start figuring out how the music works perhaps? :)
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
Yes, that sounds like an excellent idea! LOL :P
I've said before that I like the Hermione/Narcissa relationship, but I don't think I have mentioned that I quite like the relationship between the Malfoys as well. She has changed a lot since the war and really seems sincere. He, I think, still has some deeply ingrained prejudice, but is really trying. And he totally dotes on his wife so I think if something is important to her, it will become important to him. That is too bad about the strong connection between Severus and Hermione... now they are going to have to spend every second together ;) It is a good sign that her first concern upon waking is whether he calls her by her first or last name.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
I think a humbling experience such as the Malfoys went through during the last year of the war tends to change people profoundly, and usually to the better. And the love has certainly been there; canon shows that quite clearly.Thank you for another wonderful review!
I'm disapointed. No Prince Charming Kiss to wake her up? I certainly hope there will be a kiss very soon. *stomp foot*PS: You know I'm joking, right?
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
LOL. Worry not, my sweet, your wish will come true soon enough. :DP.S. Yes. LOL.
Ah, another wonderful update! Thank you so much.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
Thank you, as always, for your kind words!
Good to see Kingsley and the three of them like this. There is a very peculiar magic to this story that makes me wish the next chapter weren't the last one - even though I have a hunch about what might be next on Cissy's agenda..
Thank you for another beautiful update.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
Thank you, as always, for your kind words. If it's any consolation, the last chapter is the longest, and I've also started working on a sequel. :D
Beautiful. And I must say that I am glad it didn't take Gilderoy to do the miracle. I've always thought Severus was more miracle worthy than Gilderoy. Lovely, as always. Sara
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
Thank you! It's funny how we don't think Gilderoy deserves it when his only sin is an extreme admiration for himself whereas Severus surely has committed more sins, eh? I feel exactly the same way as you. :D
Response from sara lady dalian (Reviewer)
Oh, you mustn't think Gilderoy's only sin was in his extreme vanity. He was also a liar, a cheat, and a thief. He took other's exploits and made them his own. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't take well to academic dishonesty.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
I agree that he did all this, but he did it all because of his extreme vanity, so when the music healed him, it was time for humble pie. I share your intolerance to academic dishonesty, absolutely.
How wonderful to hear and feel the music. Lucky Hermione.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
Isn't she lucky? :DThank you for reviewing! *pats the shiny stars*
YAY!!!But I'm guessing it will still take a while for Hermione's magic to fully recover, yes? Time that Hermione will get to spend with the Malfoys. And Severus, of course. Hopefully, quality time...
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
Oh, she does get to spend time with the Malfoys. Well, a bit of time... :DThank you for another lovely review!
How interesting that Lockhart would be needed to bring her back. Perhaps both his influence and Severus' were needed together? She certainly needs Severus next to her at any rate. Will that continue as she gains strength?I anxiously await your next update.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
Indeed, both of them were needed because neither alone can coax the music yet.One more chapter to come. :DThank you, as always, for your lovely review!
Can't understand why she didn't in chapter 9 but I must say she got Narcissa a present after all - and a long-wished-for one at that. Glad Severus is back.I really like your way of 'choreographing' the symphony and describing the interaction among the musical instruments and their very own ways to lure Severus back to life. Not impatient at all, just glued to the computer.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
LOL! I think it was mostly because she didn't exactly expect to spend Xmas with the Malfoys...Wow, thank you for your kind words on the music descriptions.
Thank you for another wonderful chapter. I'm always excited when I see it's been updated. You've maintained your characterization throughout the chapters and it'll be interesting to see how throwing Severus in will change the dynamics.I'm a little confused about the hag and her role in the story. I think I was a little confused at the earlier chapter she was in. I didn't know if she was good or evil. I know the giant was a mentor for Hermione as she learned the power of the sphere's music but I'm not sure how the hag and he are connected. Will we find out later or did I miss something when I was reading earlier chapters? I'm looking forward to the next chapter which if you run true to form should be Friday!!!
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
Thank you for your kind words! The hag... Perhaps not so clearly written because the hag has a mind of her own. She turned up to form a tie between the Malfoys and Hermione. She perceived Hermione's ability to coax the music to play, of course, and Lyra, being an exceptional Healer, knows of her, so told the Malfoys. I'd say the hag was the connection between Hermione, the Malfoys, and Snape. She certainly wasn't evil, only generally grumpy or, rather, disrespectful of "civilised" people. She stands at the edge between two realms, so she communicates with both ordinary humans and beings from the higher realm, but she longs to complete her task in this realm and move on.The giant is from a different plane, manifesting in the physical whenever Hermione needed support or guidance. Call him a spiritual guide or something along those lines. Two chapters left, and yes, next one probably Friday or, perhaps, Thursday even.
Response from firewall (Reviewer)
Yes! You expressed how I felt about the hag perfectly. I felt as if she wrote herself rather than you writing her. I have a much better understanding of her now. Thank you.
