Poor thing. Of course no one would notice. When did they ever? Only when they wanted something from her. Maybe I'm being harsh, I know they care for her, but I think that they're so absorbed in themselves, and now with all that happened, that they could easily forget about her and make excuses for her absence.

I agree, and it's something that I bring up more directly (and negatively) in And Ye Shall Find. Hermione's only ever really trotted out when JKR needs to feed us some arcane information, and that attitude spills over onto her characters. It's part, I think, of why YA author Tamora Pierce commented some years back that it felt like JKR didn't really _like_ women at all. But then, it's also why we fanfic writers are able to give the girl (& Snape, for that matter) far more depth.
Welcome back! Hope you are able to stick around awhile :) Another really nice chapter. I don't frequently read drabble because I usually feel like I need a bit more meat to a story. This, however, is lacking nothing. It tells so much with so little, as this type of writing should. Very much enjoying this and hoping that it just goes on forever!
