This is excellent. I've actually just finished your long fic (a most important element) and I reckon you should write the next chapter of when Lily finds out what he couldn't talk about.  Having that knowledge certainly makes this ending a little less bleak!  It would be good to see how James explained it as well and whether Sirius or the others noticed why she went so pale.  Anyway, just a thought!

That was lovely.  Heartbreakingly sad and bitter, but marvelous at the same time.  I could truly feel their pain.  You have done a wonderful job with characterization.  One of the best one-shots that I've read in a long, long time.
