Severus Snape returns from the war a shadow of the wizard he was. Hermione Granger returns from the war restless and yearning to taste life in all its flavours. What happens when the proverbial irresistible force meets the immovable object? Told to the tune of Stevenson's A Child's Garden of Verses.

I must admit I feel a bit bad about not reviewing until now but I couldn't help myslef. I started reading and just kept going on to the next chapter. I love your writing and how you are making this story as much about emotions as you are lemons. I'm truly looking forward to the next chapter.

Yes, I agree with snapefan520. It's like that grand moment in the movie Wizard of Oz where Dorothy steps out of the black and white house and into the blazing technicolor of Munchkinland. Although, this land is very much pulsing in velveteen reds and deep satiny blacks!

Wow! I'm thrilled that it gave you such a great visual image - I remember just having so much fin writing this fic and I love it when readers enjoy it as well.

Woke him up, did she? Being treated like a pet by the other teachers, is she? Hermione needs to give everybody a piece of her mind, and give Severus a piece of some other part of her. ^_^

Well, knowing Hermione...

Yay! This is one of my favorite stories ever...and you are posting it here. I think this is one of my favorite chapters...it just gives me such visuals. It is like they are just trudging through life in black and white, and then suddenly everything is in color at the end as they finally have a reason to exist and move on.Brava!

Thank you so much! I'm really thrilled that you enjoyed it elsewhere. This was a fun chapter to write, and contains one of my favourite lines I've ever written. I know that must sound horribly narcissistic, but I can't help it!

This is my favourite story, I'm so glad that you are posting all your storys on TPP now, as you are one of my favourite authors.Norton is the first emotional connection between, Severus and Hermione, and she is begining to see that there are things going on, behind the mask that Severus always wears.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. I'm planning to gradually post all my work here - it's such a great place to be. I'm glad you like the story - I have to admit I have a real soft spot for this story for some reason.

I don't want to say too much, and spoil it for those that are reading it for the first time, this story has a simple truth, and beauty that stays with the reader, long after the last chapter has been read. Thank you again ,for sharing this with us all.

I've been a very bad girl. When I read the other reviews and saw this story was posted elsewhere, I couldn't help myself. I googled it and have just finished reading it. This is one of the best stories I've ever read, full stop. Ever. I'm utterly in love with it. So much so that I think it'll be one that I read over and over. I rarely ever do that. Bravo, TeddyRadiator. Bravo.

Thank you so very much! I'm delighted you enjoyed it - what a lovely comment. I have to admit that I have a soft spot for this story - I think I felt like I'd done what I really love doing - giving Severus Snape a reason to live and to enjoy himself, and yet kept him in character. At least I hope so. Thank you again for a beautiful review waiting on me after a hard day's work.

I'm hooked already. Can't wait to see where this story goes. I can see a depth in the characters already that is going to be interesting in the continued development, I think. This is my favorite 'kind' of Hermione - brave, strong, compassionate, thoughtful in her pursuit of justice. I do hope Severus isn't too terribly prickly with her in the days to come.

Thank you for your lovely comments. This is a complete story, so I will be posting quickly, and it's fairly short. I hope you will continue to enjoy the story.

Oh, so nice. A lovely beginning. I love RLS and his "Child's Garden of Verses". Hope the rest of the chapters can measure up to this. ^_^

Beautiful story. Thank you for sharing!
This is such a lovely story! I love the way you used that vial of Myrtlap Essence and sweet Norton to frame those special moments. I wanted to cheer with the students when he proposed, even though they wouldn't have known what his words were about. (Lol, they sound a little more risque than his students should perhaps be hearing, without the backstory!!) And then to hear that they named their child Norton was a wonderful touch. In between, I loved how they gave life to each other, and really enjoyed Minerva's liking them to two vampires when they first arrived back, then getting all their color back after they got together. All in all, this is a beautiful story!
Severus Snape didn’t give a fuck better than anyone else she knew.Ha! So true.Severus had such clever children. I'd pity the child of Severus Snape who was a dunderhead. He dreamed, and in his last dreams he was Norton, lying soft and peaceful in her arms, a good boy first, last, and forever.I'm not sure how many times I've read this story, but it STILL makes me cry bittersweet tears.

I will admit I got a little teary finishing this story. I think this is probably the best type of story for me to write. I don't write prolonged angst well, and I like them to work together instead of butting heads constantly. I think they work well together, and I think they are good for one another. And most of all, I'm really glad you enjoyed this story.

He was still touchy; in the mornings they spent together he was as prickly as a bear waking from hibernation, and his pre-coffee conversations mostly consisted of grunts, farts and glowers.Even in the midst of such a hot and romantic story, your realism makes me giddy. This proposal was so romantic. I never knew a puddle of goo could type, but I've managed.
Response from TeddyRadiator (Author of A Treatise On The Healing Properties of Murtlap)
I was a little afraid it was too corny. But I'm really, really glad you enjoyed the proposal. I thought there was no better 'Yes', than Batch 10, Lot 183. And yes, Severus has never struck me as a 'morning person'. ;)

“And most of all, you make me want to crawl into your pocket and stay there forever.” *sigh* Yep.Sheesh.. I can't think. I want to be her.

“To be perfectly honest, I can’t tell you what my present emotion is. I’m fairly sure it’s positive, but we’re so out of the realm of my experiences right now I might as well be classified as another species.”You're pretty good at this, you know? Umm.. I feel the need to apologize. It seems that the hotter the chapter, the less coherent thoughts I have.
Response from TeddyRadiator (Author of A Treatise On The Healing Properties of Murtlap)
That's okay, sweetie - as long as you're enjoying yourself, I don't mind! ;)

"Fuck me, you have pretty tits,” he murmured, with a laugh that could only be described as filthy. This may be the best line ever.“Merlin, Hermione Granger, I’m glad I never saw you naked before. I would have locked you away in my dungeon and told everyone Tom Riddle had kidnapped you.”That's a whole different fic... hehe.God, I love this story.
Response from TeddyRadiator (Author of A Treatise On The Healing Properties of Murtlap)
You know, you're the second person who's told me they love that line - I just thought he would be the type of man to say that and make it sound good. Who knows? Maybe I should write that fic - but the purists would stone me. Hmmmm... maybe for the Teddypeeps' eyes only...

...he was lovely, but his voice got on her nerves. It lacked... character.Accept no substitutes, Miss Granger. She could break this man with a single gesture. She could make this man with a single caress.Gah! That's beautiful. Oh, and wouldn't we all love to have a LOT of Slytherin in us?
Response from TeddyRadiator (Author of A Treatise On The Healing Properties of Murtlap)
LOL I don't think I've ever channeled Hermione as much as I did in this fic! This is the one story I've written that I really, really want to be her.
