This is a very emotional bit. I like how you took something so simple and made it so significant. Nicely done.

I really enjoyed this.  war is hell, and you have not tried to romanticize it.  Yet a little romance creeps in, because he hasn't found a pin-up girl on a battlefield, but accepts that she is a soldier, and mud and blood is the unlovely truth.

I think I might've read this awhile ago on ff.net, but I'm prettysure I didn't review-- thought I'd let you know it's excellent!

Very Powerful.  I can't wait to see what else you write.

Response from tiddlywinks (Author of It Was Beautiful)

Thankyou very much! I have a couple of other plot-bees buzzing around my skull, so you will be seeing more of me!

Great imagery.

Lovely. I held my breath when he hugged her, for if that hair smelled like cinnamon after the battle.... but it was perfect.

Response from tiddlywinks (Author of It Was Beautiful)

Dear me, no. I'm afraid that level of sugary mushyness would have turned me into an instant diabetic and then sent me into insulin shock! And I'm very self-involved and would not allow that to happen to myself :P Thanks for taking the time to review.

Beautiful nough said <sigh>

Response from tiddlywinks (Author of It Was Beautiful)

I hope that's a happy sigh! Thanks for taking the time to review.

The shortness of it made the fic so powerful. Great job!

Response from tiddlywinks (Author of It Was Beautiful)

Another plus is that it made it easier to finish! Thanks for taking the time to review.

Now this is talent:  giving the reader a lot of information with very few words.  In the end, I'm glad he found what he was looking for and that he found it beautiful... because anything that was her would be beautiful, no matter how distasteful.

This is beautiful.

Response from tiddlywinks (Author of It Was Beautiful)

*Blush* Ahhh, minimalist, short writing. Also known as "Millie-can't-finish-a-full-length-fic-itis". I'm glad you liked it though. For such a short fic I sure did slave over it for a while.

Response from notsosaintly (Reviewer)

I love short fics.  I suffer from the same 'can't-finish-a-full-length-fic-itis' syndrome.  I've only finished one serious fic-length piece, and even then, I petered out at 13 chapters.  Nothing like what others can do.

I am a minimalist at heart.

Lyrical and lovely!

Wow... how incredibly moving. Do you ever do longer pieces? Victory is dirty, as all wars are, not noble not beautiful but horrible and pain filled. I think this is your best, of what I have read. Thanks
