Chapter 1 of 1
morgaine_dulacEven Severus Snape needs a break now and then.
ReviewedExhaling slowly, Professor Severus Snape closed the door of his classroom and carefully warded it from the inside. No one, not even the Dark Lord himself, would be able to get through that door now. And should someone manage after all, they would face a quick but very certain death by the hands of the Potions master.
Which lunatic had come up with the asinine idea of scheduling fourth-year Potions for Slytherin and Gryffindor at three o’clock on Friday afternoon, Snape wondered for the umpteenth time that term. It was a recipe for disaster, to say the least. The students were all tired, unfocused and giggly. In short: a downright pain in the arse! And the fact that the two Houses hated each other did not help either.
But now, after an excruciating double-lesson, three melted cauldrons, a severe burn and a poisoned rat, the classroom was finally quiet. And thanks to a well-placed Ventilation Charm, even the stench of burnt potion had disappeared.
Snape picked up a wet sponge and started wiping the chalk off the blackboard. He could have done it by magic, of course. One flick of his wand would have sufficed to remove every last trace of his handwriting, but he was in no hurry.
When the blackboard was clean, he Vanished the sponge and sat down behind his desk. He would watch the blackboard dry, he decided, leaning back and casually putting his feet up. Not for all the gold in Gringott’s would he leave the haven of his empty classroom. He knew that the corridor on the other side of the door was filled with yet more chattering, giggling, obnoxious dunderheads.
On this side of the door, however, there was only him. And blissful silence.
This is for all the teachers out there.

Great job. I can sympathize with him, and I am not even a teacher.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
I know his pain!
In the tropical area where I live, the board dries up in less than a minute. That didn't deter me from watching the board drying. And somehow just felt sad when the board lost its glistening hue!
Thanks for bringing back those innocent childhood memories..
And I truly, madly, deeply loved this!
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
I love getting reviews for stories I wrote a loooong time ago!! This one was actually written behind locked classroom doors, in blissful silence.
Response from MayavanavihariniHarini (Reviewer)
Lol! Now that's an interesting revelation!
Considering how noisy WE used to be in our schooldays, you kinda got me wondering whether our former teachers had blissful moments like this once we were out of their sight!
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
I bet they had.
Response from MayavanavihariniHarini (Reviewer)
You bet!
Sometimes I feel that students as noisy as us would have been straightaway Avada Kedavra'd by Severus. He would have preferred even the Gryffindors over us, any day! :P
That's why, with a heavy heart, I am okay being a Muggle. Lol!
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
Best reason to be a Muggle EVER!
Response from MayavanavihariniHarini (Reviewer)
Ah, no! My best reason for being a Muggle is being born in the 1990s.. I wouldn't have received my Hogwarts letter until 2013! And what's the point of attending Hogwarts without our beloved Potions master! (Oh, yeah, he has to live on post-DH.. We fangirls have ensured that.. But I'm not too sure that he would keep teaching.. He might be more into research, you know!)
Alas! Defence mechanisms of a broken heart..*sigh*
Response from MayavanavihariniHarini (Reviewer)
Oops, I meant 2003,,lol!
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
Now I will have to write something post-Dh, with Snape surviving and some poor soul daring to ask him to take up teaching again...
Response from MayavanavihariniHarini (Reviewer)
Ah, please do... Am excited already! I LOVE post-DH tales with Snape surviving!Actually I was also writing something a crazy plot on similar lines, where Snape survives, becomes suicidal and receives psychotherapy and stuff.. It's not completed yet.. If you have time to waste, do read and flame!
Oh boy can I relate to this! Silence is sheer bliss. Nice one. Brought back a few childhood memories as well. :)
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
Childhood memories? Did you get to clean the blackboard a lot?
Response from slythkid (Reviewer)
Hehe, even used to volunteer. Loved to watch it dry as well.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
So did I, actually. Pathetic... hehe
Oh, how did you know my secret? You blissful woman.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
Wow, I've never been called "blissful woman" before! :)So you watch the blackboard dry as well? I have a whiteboard in my classroom, so I can't. But now and then, I lock the door from the inside and write a little fic. Like this one :)
That was fabulous. May you have many moments like that.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
Will tell the headmaster to buy blackboards, so I can watch them dry :)
I'm not a teacher but I do understand him. At the end of the day I can't bear noise eather and just wish for peace, alone.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
Peace and quiet are true treasures, not only for teachers :)
This is the reason, why "Silence is golden"
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
Indeed!
Have lots of school teacher friends who would appreciate teh same sentiments as Severus. Bliss indeed.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
Hm, I know that kind of bliss as well. Thanks for reading!

Nice! As the mother of a preschooler who is constantly underfoot, I can personally attest to the fact that silence is bliss. Poor Severus, I'm surprised he hasn't hexed the person responsible for setting the schedules. Although he's probably thought about it. lol
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
I bet he has thought about it. Wonder if it's Minerva who sets the schedules? Ruddy Gryffindor ;-)
I feel the same way when I send my kids to school...
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
Are you watching the dishes dry? ;-)
Oh, poor Severus! It sounds like he had the kind of day that would be quite trying to even the most seasoned (and patient) teaching professional.Perhaps Severus should brew himself a cauldronful or two of the wizarding equivalent of Calgon or Radox bath products? Just a thought. :)
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
Maybe he should! We'd all like to see him in the tub.I also have a feeling that he might be visiting the liquor cabinet soon. It's Friday, after all :)Cheers!
I know that feeling full well. On one side of the door -- peace and quiet. On the other side -- "Mommy! Are you in there!" And I don't even have children. ^_^
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
It's scary when they start to call you "Mommy" ;-)
Response from MsTree (Reviewer)
Well, I will admit that their mother lived with us as well, but it's still disconcerting. ^_^
Perfect:) Perfectly snarky and perfectly in character:)Brava!
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
Thank you very much! I had a lot of fun writing this little piece. Glad you liked it. :)
Watching the blackboard dry. ROFL! :)
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
That's quite a peaceful pastime :P
And so says the teacher! I'm sure there are many who can empathise with this, although only one I know of can write it so well and so succinctly! (Pity she wasn't available to write anything at the moment & we've got to make do with you, hehe!) ;-)
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
Came back for seconds, I see.

Nothing like having your reviews in triplicate is there! So sorry, God only knows what went wrong there!
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
Man, you must like this,
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
. THREE reviews! Love you, too. ;)
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
Don't be sorry. Makes the stats look good, hehe
Response from Sevvy (Reviewer)
Well, you know what a big fan of yours I am and clearly those bribes you've been offering me have now paid off ;-)
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
Those cunning folk use any mean to achieve their ends ...
Poor Sev, someone must really hate him for planning such a cruel lesson as the last one before the weekend.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of Bliss)
Bet it was McGonagall.
