Awwwww I love the magic spell you thought up! And it Severus could turn it into a career. I can see it now, couples will come into his shop to pick out the perfect lump of coal. Snape will wave his wand and VIOLA a personalized diamond. He will be rich and living his happily ever after!

aw, this was adorable.
wonderful! it kind of reminded me of how in the old superman comics he used to compress coal into diamonds with his superstrength. loved the story. on our first christmas together i gave my sweetie a list of suggestions. much more satisfatory way for both of us! thanks and mucho smoochies

Well, I'd say that is a marketable skill. Definitely couldn't be two more different gifts. Thank goodness she ended up with the right giver. Very nice story.
This is the best of both worlds:a gift that is beautiful and valuable and desirable.

Oh this is so cute! I totally laughed at Ron's inept gift and couldn't help smile at her reaction to Severus' coal. 
If he markets his coal into diamonds spell, he'll ruin the diamond market - or if he keeps it to himself, he'll be rich! Too funny that!

this story is really cute. and i like how you gave us all the information we needed to know about how hermione went from ron to no ron to severus in a very succinct, non-narrative way. i do like the whole "naughty hermione" thing, but severus discovering a way to turn coal into diamond fits so well with your characterization; it essentially solves his career problem, with his own brainpower :) So for this story, it was the perfect thing to do. this ship can always use more stories like this; good job!

That's the advantage of writing to a word limit challenge - you have to be concise! I think it is very typical of the male ego to want to be the 'provider' in the family - however Victorian of them that might be! ;0)Thanks so much for leaving a review - I really appreciate it!

Yes I agree Ron can be rather clueless especially when it comes to figuring out Hermione lol
LOVE this. I was talking about giving someone coal for Christmas and that they could put it under huge pressure and make themselves a diamond. Even better with magic!
