This is a story about friendship, and about coming to terms with loss. The new gamekeeper arrives to take up his post at Hogwarts, where he finds many memories waiting for him.
Disclaimer: all scenes and characters recognizable from the Potterverse belong to JKR, Warner's, whoever – but not me. I make no money from this.
The story is mine, however.
Heartfelt thanks to Annie Talbot and Machshefa for beta-reading.

Am a big fan of your other work and just found this. What an absolutely lovely story. Your portrayal of Charlie actually made me a little teary-eyed. I hope in the future you might consider exploring more of his story; I was simultaneiously left content and wanting more.
what a lovely heart touching story. thanks so much and smoochies
Lovely! A wonderful tribute to Hagrid, and a warm sense of homecoming for Charlie.
I don't usually read non-Snape centric stories, but I have recently decided to broaden my horizons, and I'm so glad I did. This is wonderful - really refreshing and different to get a nostalgic view of Hagrid from someone who had such a strong connection to him. I always imagined that the two of them might have had a bond when Charlie was at school over their mutual love of animals.

This was lovely. I have always liked Charlie - I think he's woefully underused in fanfiction. Your linking of him and Hagrid is beautiful and believable. Thanks for posting.
You've portayed a wonderful relationship between the two men, and made them into real characters rather than characatures. Thanks.
what a beatiful tale. Hagrid was allways one of my favourite characters and you did him so well. Also your Charlie was great. Lovely story, it was funny and sad
Wonderful, just wonderful. Excellent characterization, of the people and of the hut! You did better by Charlie than JKR did, I think. Dare we hope for a Charlie/Katie sequel?
Utterly lovely story. A never before seen side of both Charlie and Hagrid.
~sighs~
That was gorgeous.
You wield a wondrous brush when painting portraits of domesticity.
I love both Charlie and Hagrid in this. It played like a movie in my head and both characters felt so very real.
(((hugs)))
I absolutely loved this. It was wonderful. Thank you.
This was an amazing story, so different from the romantic pairings stories I usually read, but what a tribute to Hagrid! You did such a wonderful job telling this story, I truly loved it!!!
This is splendid - absolutely splendid. There are insufficient stars....
I really like the way you gave us a deeper look into the lives of Charlie and Hagrid. Compared to many of the other characters in canon, we know relatively little about the personal lives of these two, and you have done a great job of fleshing them out. Kudos!

What a gorgeous story! I've been reading through all your postings here, almost all of which I've read before. I'd never seen this one though, and it's old enough that I wonder if many faithful readers of yours have read it, especially those of us in more used to reading your ss/hg works.
This is such an exceptional piece, filling in all sorts of areas of both men's lives. And I like that you didn't fall into the temptation of giving them love lives, as the loneliness each experienced made the story more real. There's just enough canon to provide the structure, but not too much to get in the way of the real story.
Cleaning up the remnants of Hagrid's life was a beautiful way of telling his story, and I love how you gave him so much rounder of a story than we get in canon. Also, the similarities and differences between Charlie and Hagrid are very interesting. Lastly, the love and respect Charlie has for Hagrid is absolutely wonderful. I'm so glad to read this - ten years after the writing of it!
